So deservedly a lot of discussion about the offensive execution, but good lord, from my seat in the south stadium, this defense has issues now that the competition has improved. Of the 20 DB’s on the roster, they can’t find just 3 suitable backups for the injured starters? Charles was awful, IMO, believe he got pulled before end of first half. S and LBs either look like they overrun the play or fail to wrap up when they seem to be in position to make the tackle. DL no longer can win the line of scrimmage when faced against decent athletes on the OL. Princewell and Williams now MIA.

Remember when people thought it was no big deal when we fired our DB coach 3 weeks before the season?

The back 7 is the issue this year. It’s not something can be fixed with play calling. We ran soft zone early to protect them and our d line was good enough to get pressure. Then Illinois showed everyone how to beat the soft zone. Now we have to play more man to man and our guys just can’t do it. Terrible situation with no fix mid year

This is all I could think of the last few games. Bringing in a new coach, no matter how good, is bound to cause issues. New technique. New leader. No trust.

I think he also has a dline problem. Way to inconsistent. I watched UCLA oline completely take the Dline out of the play. Go look at the UCLA QB long scramble. They opened up the middle of the line of scrimmage just pushing the soft Dline wide. Embarrassing

There should have had a linebacker in position to make sure he couldn’t have ran so freely on a play like that..

I don't disagree what so ever. But still doesn't take back the fact there line was able to move that Dline. It was mid boggling watching the center of the line open up so wide. Even with a backer there. It would have had to be one hell of an open field tackle.

The dline is in a tough spot. We need them to simultaneously shut down the run and get pressure on the qb without allowing them to scramble. I’m going to give them a break. If we could play coverage, any coverage, they would be so much more effective

They have also completely disappeared at times this year. And they like to talk a lot then disappear. Nobody should get a pass

I thought the 3-3-5 defense was made for this with different blitzes coming from different angles..

Haven’t seen us blitz like I thought this type of defense was built for..

They’re frost recruits who’ve been told “no thanks” by the nfl and you’re surprised they’re soft and crappy?

Find a mirror, bud. That’s on you.

If we can’t cover with 7, what happens if the blitz doesn’t get home? I think white is playing the long game. Make teams go 10-15 plays and hope they make a mistake to get us off the field.

The opponent also matters. UCLA is a quick throw offense. Tough to have an effective blitz if they’re going 3 step drop and getting the ball out. Ideally we could go man, press them at the line and blitz. But I don’t think we have the guys to play press

If you can't get to the QB before the quick throw then get the arms/hands up.

Tony Whites 3-3-5 defense isn't suited for anything but playground football. There are just to many ways to successfully attack it at the college and pro level.

I’m with you on Frost recruits being soft and crappy.

It’s the elephant in the room that most people want to talk about. The effort is just not there. When there is ANY adversity they just fold. No toughness whatsoever. No will to win.

There are coaches that need to be on the chopping block but also a ton of starters not good enough and not even trying. They need to be sat down and have honest talks with

Jeremiah Charles was one of Rhule's under the radar recruits. He played only one year of football in HS, and we beat out North Texas for him. His performance shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone.

Why be a douche bag for no reason though?
another "find a mirror" post.

you've been the biggest douchebag here for going on a year. two simple words could've changed my and everyone's opinion of you, but you refuse to type them.

comical.

Right. Guy pisses on people randomly for sport and wonders why he isn’t liked. Addicted to drama, equal to any run of the mill ghetto trash *****
Keep digging in, sweetheart.

I can tell you like it here less and less each day, as your takes are proven almost impossibly more wrong with each passing week.

Literally nobody will miss you when you’re gone.

I refuse to believe that the teams we are losing to, outside of OSU, are significantly more talented than Nebraska. Let’s face it, our record against forgettable average to below-average teams is abysmal. We didn’t get beat by UCLA, Indiana and Illinois because of talent. Especially UCLA. They flat out suck and they kicked our ***.

He agrees with everything I say (not sure how you couldn’t, it’s all a simple observation of what is taking place)

He’s just too butthurt & emotionally scarred to admit it publicly.

I know it isn't 2006 but we had a secondary back then with nary a single guy who could make a play on the ball, we went the whole season without any or many pass breakups and few true interceptions.(won 8 games with a good front 4) The front 4 normally has to get pressure with 4, if they don't every secondary will suffer. But, we gave up 21 to OSU, should have won with defense, gave up 24 to Illinois in regulation, gave up 20 to Ucla, 14 to Rutgers....the defense is fine. Those should all be good enough to win with our talent. The secondary is also one of the only positions that has had sustained injuries, what are the excuses for literally every other position... most teams are devastated this time of year across the team...our WRs, QBs, RBs, Dline, Lb have been mostly healthy. And oline could be hit harder. Its crazy to think we started off with 5 straight home game cupcakes, got OSU before PSU, our QB was healthy through all of it and we are still looking at 5-6.

Well of course, but I guess the point was that with no backend help, our Db’s will get beat on a quick slant or miss a tackle in the flat, and then these annoying 8 yards easy pass plays we give up will start going for 60 and 6.
