Chubba in the portal

I agree with everyone here.
He got picked THREE TIMES late in games to lose the game. That is terrible and is hard to excuse. Seems to have some talent but if we are to exorcise our demons we have to part with the turnover QBs. We both need a break. Maybe his next stop will do the trick but I did not see a winner when he took the field.
When does HH hit the portal? Or are people really still thinking he's going to change position?

If Raiola can be reasonably productive early and proves durable, then we aren’t going to miss Purdy. Or Sims. Or McCord. But if Dylan gets dinged or struggles, it would be nice to have Purdy as an available option. I’m not sure who we can add for that scenario that would be better than last year.

Good luck, young man. Hopefully you don’t ruin another team’s message board

Purdy has the arm talent and wheels I like. Hope he gets a chance to be the man somewhere and tears it up. Good kid.

Purdy choked by tossing pics when it mattered. He cost us two games. He has had his chance to shine and he screwed the pooch.

Tired of QB’s who are better at giving games away than winning them. Our future is with Raiola and Kaelin. HH is here as a backup/screwup.

Brad Cesmat who made the post used to be a well-known Phoenix sportscaster. I haven’t seen him on the air in years but he always seemed like a straight shooter and probably would have local knowledge. Not surprising if true.

So a take that makes sense is yours where we stake at least a whole season solely on a true frosh?
With Kaelin a true frosh and HH who sucks, as backups?
Ok
HH at least knows the offense and is not going anywhere. He did win a couple of games. Start DR and hope for the best. I can accept CT but to bring in an FCS guy as a backup seems like a waste.

He’s hardly played and in one of those games he had been running scout team all week. He hadn’t practiced the play call on that first INT at all. He played pretty damned well for all but 2 freaking plays against Iowa. IF we had gotten that kind of QB play from Sims and Haarberg we would be getting ready to fly to a nice bowl game.

You don’t go in to a season with 2 true freshmen as your top 2 options.

Will you say the same when a true freshman does the same? Cause it’s likely to happen.

Mistake prone QBs make mistakes. It is just what they do. The best predictor of the future production is past production. I like Chubba and I like his talent but mistake prone QBs make mistakes. The car insurance industry knows this - those who have accidents tend to have more accidents....

You do when they are your best options. What is your love affair with Purdy? The dude has done zippo here. And he played like **** late against Iowa literally giving the game away. He has shown nothing here. I will take talented true freshmen over Purdy and day.

Disappointed but do not blame him. I would love to stockpile backups but Purdy can see the writing on the wall, has graduated and can go to a place that offers him the best opportunities. Best wishes to the kid.

Geezus the guy ran the scout team for the 2 weeks before that first game. He was able to run a 2 minute drill and put us in position to tie or win. Maybe give the guy a couple of weeks of practice reps with the first team before you trash him.

Playing QB is not the same as insurance actuarial science.

I think this sucks for Nebraska. Strong chance we need him next year. Good luck to him. Hope he gets healthy.

I don’t think HH is good and should be 4th string, IMO.
I am not locked in on Sluka, I would prefer a KJ Jefferson or Ward, but it just doesn’t seem like we would get a guy like that. I don’t know. I just threw that name out there but there are a handful of guys that could be good 1 year fillers: Jefferson, Ward, Uigalele. I don’t know they’d come here though and not sure what Rhule is thinking now that he is down to HH and a couple true frosh.
A one year guys could come in without Dylan and Danny having to worry about the future.

I don’t want to have an injury to Dylan be the cause of another 8 loss season just because he’s the annointed one and we have no one decent back there.

Frankly, we need another QB that has taken snaps at the collegiate level. Not a runner, a thrower. We shall see

He’s never had much of a chance. The guy had the best QB skills of anybody we had. He had some of the best drives of the season those last 2 games. Yeah he screwed up a couple of times but I guarantee you do will Raiola. He’s going to get educated quickly by B1G defenses and their DCs. People thinking Dylan is going to light the world on fire as a true freshman are in for a reality check.

DR came here to start. Our season is not going to fall apart losing Chubba. He’s doing what’s best for him and that’s fine.

You need the reality check that Chubba graduated before he earned QB1 on a roster. That should tell you all you need to know. Nothing against the kid. He's just not a gamer.

He digs his heels in to feel smarter than everyone. I also think we nebraska fans just have no idea what good, or even average, qb play looks like. I keep hearing about all this arm talent purdy has and for fbs qbs its average. Certainly talented but 90% of fbs qbs have the same.Purdy was a disaster here. Good luck to him, I wish him well, and hope a new place works out for him.

The two best things rhule has done in his time here:
1. Land Raiola
2. Process Purdy.

Our QB room is better with each of these moves, and we are playing Big Boy football now!

Sounds to me like he is afraid of competition. Good riddance. Kids need to remember most teams have to play two quarterbacks as they do get hurt. Whatever, kid is showing his true colors.... yellow and yellow.

I wish Sims and Purdy the best wherever they land.

At the same time, I'm just fine with the idea of never again having to watch Sims / HH / CP throw a football.

I'd put that QB room, collectively, up against any of the worst P5 QB rooms -- of any team -- post-leather helmet. I'm not kidding.

Yep. Freshman take their lumps. And it will happen next season. Even with that, it will be an improvement.

This.

I am so sick of the athlete playing QB I could puke. That's all we've known for the most part at Nebraska.
As much as I loved watching T-Mart, the next play youd want him pulled.
Like 1414 said, I don't think we know true arm talent here. I think/hope we are going to witness it with Raiola.

I don't know what surprises me more. That people didn't know this would happen or that people really wanted him to stay. Doesn't matter how good he was or wasn't. It was time for everyone to move on.

Final throw of 100% of the games played - all one score Ls - this year was an INT

Couldn’t even face the media after the last game

Nobody is surprised to hear this not because of his ability but because we knew there was no chance a “me” guy like him - despite the career 0-5 record as a starter in 4 years - would stick it out

He won’t be missed. Need the roster spot.

Huge hole. Regardless of what some think he’s a very talented QB with a little experience. IF Raiola gets hurt we’re screwed.
That is a hyperbolic overload. I like the kid and thought he has a chance to be better than shown, but, to date, to call that a huge hole is excessive.

I’ll believe we can get a portal QB with his wheels and arm to replace him when I see it. Why would somebody with no connection to NU come in to back up a true freshman?
Can we find a guy that fumbles untouched while running? That throws directly to a linebacker standing right in the middle of the field? He made a lot of terrible plays. Yes, Chubba was tantalizing with some of his skills, but he's just not a winning player to this point. If he stayed? Fine. Leaving? Fine. We just signed two elite guys and we can get depth if we need it. I'm not going to lose sleep over a backup QB who played on some of our worst teams ever. Moving on.
