This **** has been so stressful it has made Kong go Yoda on us

bored the sopranos GIF
I'm not super stressed about it.

offseason is the best time to be a Husker fan, and this one's no different.

staying in the hunt for DR is exactly the kind of move you can afford when the pressure's off

here's hoping it works out
We’ll see, I’m about as critical of Rhule as you as I find his staff mostly underwhelming. If they can secure DR I can see double digits wins versus missing a bowl for the ninth straight year.

as I said before ITT:

if we sign DR, nothing - literally nothing - will matter to fans until 2026

win next year? great! don't? oh well, we have DR

win in 2025? great! don't? oh well, we have DR and whichever new guys we got in 2024

Our offseason is playing out like a regular season game we should have in the bag to see the opposition kick a walk off field goal. This **** is eerily similar and you know it.

The problem with that prediction is if next season goes south Raiola will abandon ship. He won’t make it to 2026 if we keep losing, he’ll have long since transferred out.

yes, but it's much more ambiguous and the stakes are much lower than a binary thing like that

win/loss is up for debate in the offseason, unlike during a game

You bring in DR because you were going to be 7-0 headed to Columbus next year and in order to get out of that brutal stretch of 5 games at the end of the year, you need him to get you there. This isn’t a win in 2026, by that point DR is looking at draft position and whatnot.

no, that's why you bring in an experienced player - to win right away

you bring in DR so that you can build to his 3rd and most important year

at least that will be the expectation

maybe everything. maybe nothing.

at the end of the day, this is what matters, and what I've said each and every time I've brought this up:

I'm very hopeful the staff did not set out on this public campaign without being fully transparent with the kids in the QB room currently and with Kaelin.

ignoring the feelings/thoughts this aggression (which I have also said is nice to see - an obvious statement) could generate does not seem like something Rhule would overlook.
Not sure where I read it but I came across it after the DR hype restarted and Danny was looking at MSU. One of the recruitniks, maybe Sean, said that Rhule had been clear to Danny while recruiting him that they were still going to try to get DR.

Now that only refers to Danny. I've read nothing that said Rhule told the QB room he was going to try to get DR, but I mean that HAS to be assumed. Otherwise you're telling your players that they don't have to worry about constantly competing for the job.

after observing him for a year, I'd say it would be extremely low EQ/out of character for Rhule to ignore the potential fallout of this QB room upgrading campaign.

that doesn't mean it's a 3rd rail that shouldn't be discussed here or is instantly construed as bashing anyone involved, which, of course, it is not.

simply the other side of the same coin.

what I would give to be a fly on the wall during those discussions.

this kind of thing is fascinating to me.

Agree. Regarding the bolded do you think Rhule felt the juice was worth the squeeze?

he obviously must have, even given the fact the juice might be toxic or the fruit would dry up altogether.

as with anything in life, big hits require big swings and big swings by definition risk more misses.

singles hitters/balls in play guys, while necessary, aren't super interesting and rarely make headlines.

The answer to that question is the answer of whether he's N or not.
I hadn't really considered this. If DR committed is he going have to stay in Don's home until Wednesday? Because if he's sighted in Lincoln before Wednesday he'll give away he's N. In fact, now that I'm thinking about it, how many people are 24/7 peeping on the NU admissions site?

This stuff just amazes me.

Coaching problems. Mass exodus at one school. Obviously Dom was done with AZ life to pick up and move to Georgia. Georgia is a high growth popular state. I’ve had Dr friends retire to the “mountainous” areas of Georgia. I doubt they would have moved to Ohio. That said. Advancing a kids potential NFL career could be worth HUNDREDS of millions of dollars.
Thanks dingle

Nah, he is here to win and win right away. I mean, as a high schooler now he is a better QB than anyone who took snaps in 2023. The skill talent is there, just need someone who can deliver the ball to them. We had wide open receivers schemed up in spades and we just didn’t have a QB who could get them the ball. DR is coming in to be a difference maker right away. I’m not saying he is going to win a Heisman trophy or be a first team AA, but he isn’t coming here to sit on the bench and he is coming here to win. Rhule has a long contract because he is going to build this through mostly HS kids that they have to develop, but Raiola’s development will be more about just adjusting to the speed of the college game and he will have a spring and fall to figure it out against one of the better defenses in the conference.

I’m not losing any sleep over McCord. He’s an immobile QB who had tremendous talent around him. I’m not sure he fit well with our team.
Exactly and that's what many are not taking into account. Not saying McCord sucks or anything like that but his surrounding cast at OSU sure made him look better than he actually is

He can deliver the ball but can he get through his progression to find the open guy. That’s a developed skill that I doubt he’s needed much yet.

same surrounding cast made CJ Stroud look worse than he actually is

how curious!

after the very public QB barnstorming tour the staff have been on since Thanksgiving that has essentially rubbed the current QB room's inadequacies directly in their faces, I have to think there will be some very pointed questions asked - both out in the open and behind closed doors - should the music stop without 1 or multiple new QBs
It’s impossible for it not to be public and is so because media and fans follow them closely. And who cares. Need to get better and everyone already on the team should welcome competition.
