i would consider it if the royalty payments + salary were greater than the salary i would anticipate to make at my current job with a raise.
if my current boss said "i'll pay you 40% more than the president at XYZ Oil makes & a bonus for the CPA" then it would be a no-brainer to stay.

While I hope White decides to stay NU, college football HC jobs - even below the Power 5 level - are like freaking winning Powerball tickets. A chance to build your own program, plus financial security for your family regardless of how it works out. Bashing someone who leaves "your team" to take such a job is hilarious.

What would he get...6 years at 2.5 or 3 million a year...all guaranteed and if he has 2 good seasons, he gets a new deal?
I know people always like to be all "Well, he has to pay an agent and living in San Diego is expensive" and all that...
But 2.5 million a year is 208K. month, I think they get paid monthly I don't know. Even if HALF that is gone for an agent and taxes that is 104K each month...
That is a shitload of money.
There’s a head coach who just got fired who ran the 3-3-5 at SDSU as their DC . I think he has a connection with White. Danny Gonzales. Would be a good DC hire by somebody.

In this world it does. The current trend amongst the big boys is to hire a HC from either the NFL, other big boy program HC, or elite DC/OC which are typically from big boy programs. Are you saying if Dan Lanning takes a HC job at SDSU, he would still land at Oregon? Or better yet, if Kirby Smart took a HC job at UTEP, he would still end up at Georgia? Who is to say that either of these guys would even have success at a G5?
Its atypical (not impossible) to find an elite DC/OC that sees an HC job at a lower level as a step up. If you are elite at your job, you want to compete with the best... you simply aren't going to be doing that at SDSU
DeBoer came from Fresno State, and Norvell came from Memphis. Drinkwitz came from App State.
Are you likening a coordinator position here to one at UGA or Bama?
Talk about a flawed premise
Harbaugh parlayed the HC position at San Diego U. into the Stanford job, which got him to the NFL. SDSU is a high-profile job compared to San Diego U.
James Franklin and Mel Tucker took the Vanderbilt and Colorado HC jobs when neither program had a pulse and were considered Power 5 in name only. Franklin turned that into a bonanza and Tucker would have too, if he had a little more self-control.
Everyone seems pretty excited and gung ho to see about our only bright spot this year take a hike.
I would rather he stay but if he does go, he probably only snags one coach to go with him.
I would imagine Rhule would go get another 3-3-5 guy.
I hope the NU brass does what it needs to do to keep White.
But convincing themselves that SDSU is a terrible job that nobody would want is not my recommended Step 1.
Not so sure about Mel Tucker. Tucker's lack of self control might have saved Michigan State millions in a very expensive buyout
Oh I'm not saying Tucker would have done great things at MSU. But if he doesn't go full-on Jeffrey Toobin, he would have collected enough $ to last two lifetimes.

1) **** coaches are not to be criticized. #InTrevWeTrust because no AD or former alum has ever let us down
2) fullback dives
3) you will obsess over players who transferred years ago
4) "if x happened we would've won"
5) we don't deserve good coaches and overpaying bad ones is perfectly acceptable (see rule #1)
6) "okay but next year"
7) quarterbacks who win games don't count if they've ever fumbled
it’s definitely a loss if does happen. The 3-3-5 has definitely maximized the talent on the roster and created challenges for opposing offenses. I am confident though that regardless of what happens that the defensive side of the ball will be solid next year. Not excusing what happened in the month of November, but it was clear even before the injuries on the offense that the defense had more depth and talent.
Colorado got worse and TW likely stays.
