Purdy is pretty bad, but I think he should at least be an option. Sims was far too careless with the ball. You can't spot the other team three extra possessions (and potentially a short field) and expect to win.

We were able to run the ball but we’re weak in pass pro. We called too many drop backs. That said, Sims has to take care of the ball. 2 of those INTs were all on him

No, just no. We’re gonna ride or die with Sims. If Rhule and company can coach around his weaknesses we’ll go bowling. We’ll be lucky to win 3 games with Chumba Wumba under center.

I only saw second half. My thoughts:
Sims is awful. But so is Purdy.
Grant is awful. But unlike Sims, we have choices at running back. Playing fumble boy in 4th was just stupid.
No improvement on offensive line
Wide receivers very average
Looks like a 4-8 season.
We have upgraded our defensive coaching staff. Not on offense
Rhule and offensive staff lost this game for us.
Another year where you can tell after the first game that the season is already over
Casey Thompson lost out to Sims?
The 4th quarter made me want to puke. Different year same script. Did we fire Frost really or is he still the shadow coach?

I'm dead serious when I say this... if a certain backup qb stayed at Nebraska and was under center last night, we win this game going away.

Rhule chose Sims over CT because he has two years of eligibility and knows year one will be an uphill battle. Same reason he didn't beg Nelson to come back on D.

Same exact thoughts. find a Saturday hobby. This is wash, rinse, repeat. Just better coach interviews with coach saying the right things and not looking hungover.

So many mind numbingly stupid coaching decisions in that game. And by a coach we were told was an upgrade. And where was this vaunted fullback we were told was back in our offense? Rhule’s coaching decisions last night have put a huge dent in my confidence in him. The Rhule aid has turned sour.
Just one game! That is what folks will say. Don’t overreact!
Looks like the same old **** to me. Not overreacting at all. Same Nebraska I have watched for 8 years. And all this for 9 million a year! Purdy won’t change anything. He is awful.
I won’t be watching next week. I have an offer to go fishing on Lake Erie for walleye. No brainer.

Rhule won a total of 3 games his first two stops year one. I know we have more talent than those places but Rhule isn't concerned with year one...we haven't made a bowl game in 6 years, yet people act like we should win the B10. This team will continue to get better - the only concern is no WR play and IGC might be out now as well. Coach Sat was the one hire I didn't agree with but I won't overreact, yet.

Pennsy _ I live in PA like you. I have a good friend who is a huge PSU fan and is in the know with PSU football alums etc. He has told me that the prevailing thought is that Rhule is an idiot and over rated for what it is worth.

Do what you need to do, but I saw some improvement last night. I'm pissed at a lot of stuff too, but I am really encouraged about the amount of people who played last night. That is how you build a team. You don't run everyone in the ground. Seemed like the entire travel roster got playing time last night.

Don't be fooled. D folded twice when it had to step up - the 4th and ten and the final run. Minnesota O will get better and our defense will get worse IMO as season goes on. That is usually how it goes. We are NO BETTER than what we have seen the last few years. It was a Frosty game - better special teams I guess.

I got zero problem with Purdy getting snaps, he can run well too, and, at this point, is a better passer / decision-maker

I really doubt our D gets worse. Hartzog made a bad play. I get that, but I really think they will be ok on D. There are definitely concerns, but we just held a team to 13 points. That should basically be a winner every week. I'll take that, just need the Offense to figure it the **** out.

I don’t care if it is year one. Horrible coaching decisions were made last night. Frost-level stupidity. That has nothing to do with it being year one. This is a veteran coach. And he should have made better decisions. He didn’t. Some of his decisions were inexcusably dumb. Blame it on the offensive coordinator all you want, but Rhule had his headset on and has vocal chords and a brain. You tell your OC when it is 10-10 with 2:30 left and a QB who has tossed three pics to go to your QB run game and/or very, very safe passes. You don’t have him chucking it downfield into tight coverage. You play conservative and play for overtime if need be. Your QB has thrown three pics. That was not the time to get aggressive.

Grant toting the rock in the mid fourth? The same Grant that Rhule himself said had fumble issues all Fall? Where the **** was Irvin?

You are up 10-3 due in large measure to a long drive that featured successful QB runs. So by all means throw three straight passes and then punt.

Stupid.

We already have to think about who will be under center next year. Don’t expect Sims to improve.

You may as well see what you have in Purdy or Haarberg.

We’ve seen Purdy and he’s put together some good drives. If he’s better at minimizing boneheaded plays, that would go a long way to getting wins. If Rhule is set in Sims, fine, bring him along slowly and don’t compromise getting to a bowl game.

Theres a few problems. Nebraska would most likely have struggled even more with Casey Thompson last night with the receivers not separating. The QB Run was like 70% of the offense last night. He may have fit some more throws in but the WR's weren't helping much until Washington started playing in the 2nd half.

Sims staring down WR's is going to lead to a ton of turnovers, just like all the other Nebraska QB's in the past who have done it.

This team needs to go into a bit of the 2009 offensive shell until they find some weapons.

I’m not worried about center next year. We’ve got the guy backing him up who looks like a good one

Rhule is a control freak. My gut tells me the RB rotation and play calling gets fixed quickly. He had a WTH look on his face on a couple of play calls but he couldn’t burn a timeout to change them. We HAVE to do what he said we were going to do. We need to be a downhill run team. It worked with Ervin last night.

I’m getting sick and tired of losing close games making Procedure penalties down on the goal line and not scoring..

We don’t have Palmer for him to throw it to. Sims picked up a lot of yardage with his feet. Hard to say if CT would have made a difference.

I’ll give him that the decision to have Grant in the game was a coaching mistake. I’m guessing they wanted a guy in the game who could go 60 to win the game in regulation. ☹️
But we could have won in regulation without scoring and milking clock. That’s my frustration is your main goal is to pick up 4 yards and protect the ball.

Agreed on Grant.

Rhule told all of us why he wasn't the starter, and then he's in at crunch time. That's probably not gonna happen again anytime soon.

Another year, different coaches, same results. I want to be excited about the Husker season, but after one game I can see that we are not going to exceed expectations. Again.

If you told me before the game that we were going to lose by 3, I would have been disappointed but fine. But it’s how we lost. Up late, in control. But turnovers and play calling doom us yet again. Close your eyes, and you could see this being a Frost team.

Why was a known fumbler allowed on the field in crunch time?
Why even float the notion about Sims being an NFL guy?
