It's a bit like Crawford fighting a heavyweight. There are some Big 10 Butterbeans who Bud could pry land on, but against Tyson Fury the results would be fairly straightforward and predictable.

Unfortunately if our D is worth a salt in the next 2-3 years we will probably be looking for a new DC and not many of them run 3-3-5, unless we promote from within.. When we got White I was under the impression he was likely headed for HC job in the coming years.
Ha, we’ve all been dreaming of the day we have a coach good enough to be poached… hasn’t been the case in 10+ years

As much as I dislike Michigan and want to say Butterbean, I think in reality that qualifies as a legit counterexample. And an important one to keep in mind since they are on our schedule and not even the most die hard Husker fan gives us any chance against them.

NT took A gap with MIKE taking the other A

The ends shot inside or outside with the "dog" backer taking the opposite gap, that was the "stack" portion of it.

OLB's had D gap, really just outside contain. First picture is pretty much it.
Interesting. Didn't Chuck McGinnis used to run something like that at Crete? I never watched them play, but I heard they were doing some sort of high pressure defense that gave opponents fits.

Yeah they might have. I never saw them or coached vs Crete.

It is a little more popular of a defense than people probably think. Stacking D's are popular if you want to use pressure or just be gap sound

It may sound harsh but imo there is a reason you see schemes like this that typically come from smaller programs. They are trying to find a way to compete without talent in certain spots. Don't mean we can't win with it and that it won't be fun to watch. Until we get to winning and better quality depth the 3-3-5 will help us. It is also possible we get better players for the 3-3-5 and perfect it.
Except that's the point. I don't know if this particular one is the right scheme but Nebraska definitely needs to differentiate itself from what the "Ohio State's" of the world are doing by running its own unique schemes. That's what Osborne did. Other teams then were just not prepared for Nebraska because they didn't see it from other teams and Nebraska also faced less recruiting competition for the type of players it needed for its schemes. The lesson is that you can't be a better version of Ohio State in Lincoln, you have to be a better version of Nebraska.

I will forever disagree with the notion that Nebraska can’t recruit at a top level. Is it more difficult? Yes, but a coach that emphasizes recruiting top players can get them to Lincoln. Tuscaloosa is a ******** town as far away from B’ham as Lincoln is from Omaha. College Station is a middle sized town, 2 hours from Houston. There are no beaches in either place. No one vacations in either place. If you have a football program to sell, you can get players. Urban Meyer, Lincoln Riley, Jimbo Fisher could get players to Lincoln.

Totally agree and I think people get confused about location.

Location, to players, like with most college kids, means "is the location a college town"

Athens is a college town, everything there exists to cater to college kids.

No adult would be like "Oh my gosh, I want to move to Athens" or "I can't wait to vacation there"

Urban Meyer would get top 10 classes to Lincoln every year. Period.

Agree. Add State College, Eugene, Norman, Columbus, Blacksburg, South Bend, and many other places that have nothing, but seem to recruit just fine.

Once into B1G play and the D is giving up territory faster than the French Army did to the Germans, the D philosophy will change.
took the time to read about WW2 but couldn’t take 2 seconds to check the schedule … or literally read any post about MN game week?

You’re a special kind of dude.

I'll be very surprised if the defense doesn't look good in this game and hold Minny down.

I think we will be fine on D. Plus, you don’t think DC White will adjust every game to what the opposing team’s offense is showing?

The defense White designed at Cuse held the Gophers to 77 yds rushing (2.3 ave) and 138 yds. passing (11/16). The Orange lost, but their D takes the least blame in the loss. I hope NU doesn't give up the kickoff yardage that Cuse did (39 ypr, long of 72).

They one by six, Michigan had almost 600 yds. of offense. TCU did have two interceptions for touchdowns. Michigan did not have Blake Corum play in the game.
Exactly. This defense doesn't care about how many yards are allowed or "bend but don't break" (then proceed to break anyway).

It cares about chaos, tfl/sacks and turnovers. You know, kinda like what Frost promised to bring here, but then did literally the exact opposite.

I'm here for it.

Sounds like TCU's defense scored 14 points and won them the game. It's about talent and execution (coaching).

only game all season mich was forced to pass and they never led for a single second

TCU also had a goal line stand in that game that many apologists/revisionist historians chalk up to terrible coaching by harbaugh as opposed to great execution by TCU

Norman is a part of Oklahoma City, its not some isolated college town. Columbus is the biggest town in Ohio, that includes Cleveland and Cincinnati.
In truth, I've never been to Ohio so I can't judge that one and Oklahoma City might be the most nothing large city in the U.S.. That I can vouch for.

Columbus is the 14th most populous city in the U.S, Oklahoma City is 20th. Not exactly sleepy burgs hanging onto a local college for their identity.

Dude c’mon.. no one cares about city limits (I think Omaha is larger than Miami) - metro population is what counts

Lincoln is a larger and more interesting city than when TO won year after year and was able to get blue chip recruits at key positions. Callahan got Suh to Lincoln from Portland OR. Also, NU has continued to post mostly top 20 and top 25 classes (average Rivals rank of 24 since 2002). To compare, NU's opponent Thursday Rivals recruiting rankings over the past 5 years are 41, 38, 39, 48 and 38. And they offer a much cooler city than Lincoln to live in.

What an odd thing to say. I've been to Miami, I've been to Omaha. Omaha could fit inside Miami's thumbnail.

However I am not getting your point. Norman is metro Oklahoma City. It has no distinctive features to separate it as a town.
If you really want to argue metro populations. Both OKC and Columbus still rank in the top 50 in the U.S.

Granted all that there seems no rules claiming metro population.

Have you been to Miami? Florida? I don't doubt your stats but city propers tend to have different rules. Everyone in Florida lives within a few miles of the ocean. NO ONE lives in the middle. It's probably the most uneven population outside of Alaska.
Miami is one the largest metro areas in the U.S. depending how you define it.
Lincoln is larger than Buffalo New York and St Louis Missouri in strict lines.

Of course most people in St Louis have been shot and in Buffalo froze to death.
