LJS: How are Memorial Stadium renovation plans coming along?

TA: They’re going well. We’ve made our selections on the CMR, construction management at risk, so we have that selected. We will be in front of the board in October to present that. Our plan is still to present to the Board of Regents on October 5. We still don’t have 100% clarity on what will be presented, but we’ve been keeping business and finance and the board up-to-date. I’ve been in front of them multiple times.

I'm sure the freshman will all get broken in sooner or later. Some may need more time than others. Some will step up sooner than others. It will be interesting. Lots of young talent at WR.

I wonder how much downfield blocking on running plays factors into getting the young guys ready in the new offensive scheme? I assume that it is a very big part of the equation. Some true freshmen just do not have the physical development yet to be able to do that effectively. But some do and they will have the advantage. Also, a lot depends on how complicated the passing routes and route combinations are and how much players in the new system are expected to change a route by reading the defensive scheme on the fly. This involves getting to know your QB and being in sync with how he too reads defenses. That is a lot to expect of a true freshman receiver after only 15 practices.

Young receivers have a tendency to just stick with the basic pass route as called and often have trouble with audibles for that reason. This puts a ton of pressure on the QB. He might see the defense shift from zone to man coverage, and audible accordingly for the pass route to shift. Young receivers often just do not end up where they are suppose to, which leads to sacks and interceptions.

There is talent there for sure. But I sure as hell hope our running game is going to be improved. We also need the tight ends to finally fulfill their hype and to stay healthy. Ditto for the few veteran wide receivers we have on the roster. They have to stay healthy. Because I think it is going to take several games before we see real progress from the young pups.

He's missed a lot of practice time "banged up", which I'm sure hasn't helped.

Agreed. I'm thinking run heavy and TE's until the WR's get up to speed.

Washington, IGC, Kemp, a couple of walkons and Fleeks to open the season, with Fidone and Bonner available to line up flex at TE. We might see Rahmir line up at slot.

I love all the updates and actually talking about Husker football on here. Having said that, I am going to address the elephant in the room that I think everyone else is wondering. What is the deal with all the college and pro guys wearing the sports bra thing? For real. What is that all about?

I don't know all the deets. Just high level it measures fitness metrics.

I believe they incorporate GPS tracking technology. That gives data to show how hard the players are working.

Nebraska quarterback Jeff Sims offered the freshman’s name unsolicited on Monday. And it wasn’t from Sims’ side of the ball.
“One player who really stood out to me was freshman corner Ethan Nation,” Sims said of a Saturday scrimmage. “Big energy guy. He made a lot of plays that day.”

The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder from Roswell, Ga., has turned heads in camp with his aggressiveness and ball skills, but he’s part of a larger defensive effort that got the better of the Husker offense in the scrimmage.

Wasn’t aware of that..Thanks makes more sense, he seemed fine putting water in glasses pulling a prank I seen on Facebook on McGuire..

No idea. Just basing off what I see from watching the new and old videos. Hype videos are hype videos for a reason, but just seems to be a noticeable difference in the physical nature and just overall intensity to me. Just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yep, soccer players have been wearing them for years. This is what the internet said...
As for what kind of data the GPS trackers provide, there’s the simple answer – heartrate, distance covered, speed, etc. – and one that’s much more detailed.

I say with the freshmen WR's until they absorb more of the playbook is just throw a quick 5-10 yard buttonhook to Fidone and have Doss/Lloyd/Coleman/Turner trail for a hook and ladder and let them young dudes do what they do best and that's run.

You can run it once, and then threaten it at other times, just to keep the defense honest.

It's a simple *** play to teach, execute and run. It's one way to keep that safety coming up early to try to help with tackling Fidone. Get a few eyes trained on Fidone and the WR, a pump fake and something good might happen on the wide side of the field.

A good warrior uses all weapons at his disposal. Their weakness is the playbook, their weapon is speed. Use it.
