Red Michelle, get in here and drop some wisdom. I just know that somehow Rhule is behind this.

Appears some players have thrown up up to seven times in a single practice and a few parents are concerned.

Anybody else play high school football when puking at practice was the norm? Two coaches in old school gym shorts and no nutrition/health staff to monitor us during summer two-a-days. We had to earn water breaks. I think the coaches didn't consider it a successful practice unless at least one of us was doubled over and puking.

I worked my *** off and never puked in or after any game or practice.

It wasn’t the whole team puking at Nebraska - it was the O line group under Raiola

Rob Zatechka weighed in and stated it represented multiple tiers of failure and that they never had guys puking in practice

The only puking I'm aware of was Johnny Rodgers prior to a big game - out of nervousnous, a few Husker players during a game who were still battling a stomach flu - and a guy who I played high school ball with who got drunk prior to a game, since the coach never put him in anyway he thought he was good. Surprise. Coach put him in, he got hit, and he puked.

I played high school ball when water wasn't provided until after practice. We gorged ourselves on a garden hose after practice and at times I felt so sick doing that I'm surprised I DIDN'T puke.

Johnny mentioned after the punt rerun for touchdown against Oklahoma in 71 that he returned to the sidelines and threw up because of nerves..

I guess my question or thought is with all of the advances in training, nutrition, conditioning, support staff, etc. that most high schools and colleges have now, puking or getting sick in practice shouldn't be a regular occurrence. When I went to summer practices in high school, we didn't have any sort of summer conditioning program. Guys would grab fast food for lunch and then show up for the first summer practice with a cigarette in their mouths. (No joke). We had no guidance on how to eat and train properly during the off season and minimal oversight during practice from two guys that didn't want to be coaching there anyway.

On the topic of players, when I was in college athletes drank during the practice week. Not always, but if there's a good party, well.... Players usually judged how much they could drink that night based on how difficult they expected practice to be the next day. If guys were puking, it's more likely caused by what they recently ate or what they drank the day before.

No water during practice but all the salt pills you could jam down your gullet.

The old Ridell shorts! They came in a few basic colors and they had not one natural strand. They were amazing.

Yes. We practiced for three hours in high heat/humidity with a short water break after 90 minutes. But the coaches only wanted you to "wet your whistle" because drinking water caused cramps and "Charlie horses".

Only time I ever saw a lot of mass puking was during the morning 3-5 mile runs in the Army.. usually on a Saturday morning after everyone had been out drinking the night before.
