makes sense

I think we'll find out just how many P5 guys we actually had on the roster (very few) as things shake out

should be fun to watch down in Boca

Wow he will definitely be taking a pay cut. Does FAU even have NIL money?

With that said, there are a lot worse places to spend a year than Boca.

I guess Auburn found someone they liked better. His choice but I think he should have stayed in Lincoln for more NIL AND to back up Sims if/when Sims can't go.

do we know for certain whether either of these options were indeed available to him?

Wow? So, he would rather play at a meh G5 school and make maybe as much money as he would have at Nebraska just to be the starter? Rather than compete for starting time? Then even if he does not get it a very good chance to play meaningful snaps when Sims likely gets injured? I mean b4 NIL I might understand this better but post NIL I just do not understand unless NIL was not going to be what he made last year or contingent on him starting.

What if I told you Casey was moved along to free up available NIL?

That would make sense. Though pretty dumb because we have yet to complete a season without 2nd and sometimes 3rd string QB. Paying the backup qb well would be a good advantage. But at least this would make some sense.

I thought we were told Fleck was picking him up to get ahead start on scouting Nebraska schemes.

I actually respect him more if this was the case.

Our NIL money is very finite. You don’t commit that kind of money to a backup coming off injury

Auburn in their eval liked the MSU QB better

I think it would be well worth the money considering it is the most important spot in football. Also Sims couldn't get through a whole season in the ACC. Chubba and HH here we go, and I like HH he's just a little too raw still.

FAU would be good for both parties. He’s not an nfl qb, and he aint starting here. Might as well try a florida school.

FAU went 5-7 last year. Their biggest wins were against Southeastern Louisiana and FIU. Last year's starting QB was listed as a graduate student. They have four QB's listed on the 2023 roster, Ben Ballard, who is a grad transfer from UT, two juniors, and a sophomore. Tom Herman replaces Willie Taggart, who was fired, as HC.

I admit I really hadn't looked at it in those terms, but you really make a good point. Sure it's risky to move Casey along but risks have to be taken if Rhule is going to pull this bag of garbage out of the dumpster. If its about freeing up NIL to commit to a Raiola, etc I'm all for it.

Exactly. Smart move if he wants to go to the league.
It’s the smart move. He’s looking out for his own best interests as he should. Based on what he has seen, he believes IMO, Rhules quarterback will run the ball more than he would want to. Thats not a great fit for an injury prone (potential) pro style quarterback.

Dude, to be completely honest, If I was in the same position as CT, considering that he already has a masters degree, cashed in last year on NIL, got to be the starting QB at both Texas and Nebraska, and no serious NFL aspirations, I would take a year in BOCA before starting my coaching career. Good weather, beaches, hot girls, and no pressure. Seems like a great deal at this point.

So I’ve seen these 1890 billboards all over town. What if we put some up that basically made Raiola say no to 2 to 3 million per year? That would be fun.

Might have 2 former Huskers in the FAU backfield if CT transfers there, he can turn and handoff to Marvin Scott III !!!

I get that perspective but Matt Rhule loves to put players into coaching positions. I would have taken my NIL money. Enjoyed the year learned a lot and likely would begin my coaching career here. But I get the BOCA idea sure.

The young man did a great job here. Only 1 year, but it was solid. If Huskers won that game in Ireland, I think things might be a little different now. Just a little different.

I think kids just want to play. I do think he would have gotten a lot of playing time if he had stayed.

How do you figure? I predict he would have started at least three games this year. Believe me Cardale Jones in two playoff games was projected a second round pick. So a few games can make a big difference against real competition.

So as it turns out, Casey was smart to hang around in the spring until his last NIL check cleared.

85k per game x 7 games - if an average of 10 dollars per person in attendance were donated to NIL that would be be just shy of 6 million per year
