I'm a Jordan over a Lebron guy but some of the defensive rules made defending Jordan impossible
In Jordan's time if Bill Weddington took his tired *** above the free throw line his defender had to follow and couldn't sag

1st pic is iso with Jordan
2nd is Dwayne Wade when the rules changed

to be fair the hand checking rule favors today's player

Yup the ISO rules were really dumb back in the day.

Anyone even considering LBJ vs Jordan is a jerk and not worth following.

I can't tell you my top 5, but I know Jordan and Kareem are 1 and 2.

Kobe, RIP, is closer to the top than LBJ.

Fight me.

The game has changed too much over the years for an accurate comparison. It's no longer driven by low post big men playing half court offense.
that's why everything has to be taken in context of the times when each played.

When Lebron laid on the ground, faking a dramatic eye injury in the playoffs. He was never touched in the eye or the face at all. He's a *****. Soccer level stuff. That alone is enough to say he isn't the GOAT....

Pshh if he was in his prime, with better sports medicine he would have destroyed teams today and 90s. Destroyed teams of his time better medicine, training etc ain't no chance.

If only Muhammad Ali, Jack Nicklaus, Bo Jackson, Michael Phelps, Babe Ruth, Wayne Gretzky, Nolan Ryan, Jerry Rice, etc, etc, etc all had today's better medicine, training-- then they would be GOATs and beat today's athletes. But wait, they didn't need that stuff after all and would be just fine in today's world....A GOAT is a GOAT that transcends generations. And let's be real, Bill Russell is not a GOAT....

Best Player Ever got more rings than Jordan. And even has the Finals MVP trophy named after him. Every time someone at the end of the season hoists that they are hoisting up the greatness of Bill Russell.
If it just rings, and I believe they do count, then Robert Horry would be considered a better player than the Chuckster. “Big Game Bob” was not even close to Barkley’s galaxy. Russell was an efficient defender and rebounder with very limited offensive skills. Furthermore, if Russell is the GOAT and rings are the only criteria then why isn’t teammate 6x NBA Champion Bob Cousy considered the best point guard ever to play the game. Magic only has 5.

Bob Cousy is the best point guard ever who said otherwise? Magic Johnson cannot be the best point guard ever he lost several finals just like Lebron.

Your BEST player ever WAS SURROUNDED BY GREATNESS AT EVERY POSITION....EVEN OFF THE BENCJH! Look, I loved Bill Russel but his greatness was in the larger parts of the pie

I'm not sure .... athletes have to be judged on dominance in their generation

in sports with truly objective measures ... swimming and track/field for instance the marks of past greats the 60s-70s and most in the 80s don't stand up

all of Phelps individual records have been broke except one and 2008 wasn't that long ago

human performance has advanced .... a high school athlete breaking 4 min in the mile is no longer that rare

i say human because of secretariat

Bill Russell is the GOAT winner no matter the disclaimer.

He was also an all-time grudge holder, which may be a prereq for elite-level winning. Was telling people to F themselves until his dying day.

A true icon.

Did a guest appearance on Miami Vice back in the day...Played a judge with a gambling problem, he owed the bookie some cash and instead of paying him he shot him...then turned the gun on himself. Hahaha.

And yet he is the one remembered. MJ had to be convinced by Phil Jackson to pass the ball. Bill Russell never had this issue and was always a leader.

Anybody else get sick of Jordan and the Bulls during the 90's? I was rooting for the Suns (what a great lineup they had) in the 1993 Finals and the Jazz in the 1998 Finals.

jordan was so good and so charismatic that he was hard to dislike. i stopped watching the nba after he left. don't spend 5-mins with it today, mostly because of the type of play, the environment (non stop crap announcers/goofy music), plus the league's insufferable politics.

He was everywhere. It wasn't a matter of disliking him, just being sick of him. It was easy to dislike Pippen, Rodman, and Phil Jackson.

....to MJ, he will always be second. Outside of that I am not objective because Bronny is such a Grade A ******* I cannot objectively rank him after that because I despise him so much.
Calling LeBron an ******* when Jordan is one the biggest pricks in basketball history is more telling of age than anything else. Fans and their eras of influence are always entwined. I would like to see LeBron win another title this year just to fire up all of the Jordan fans. I can see sides to every argument for Jordan, Bron, Kobe, Wilt, or Kareem as the GOAT.
