one of my all time favorite players. Love the clip of him handing the ball over to Josh Allen after his INT, only to have Allen throw it back at him and get the PF
I loved watching him play, was he a Bo recruit?
I feel like there are a few Bo recruits still cashing checks.
I know people like to sort of rip on him for his "student" life but I don't really see it the same way.
If some prodigy violin player enrolled at UNL on a music scholarship and failed math or stopped going to geology class, only to still end up performing at the highest level of violin stuff (Symphony? I have no idea, composing?), in my mind, they have accomplished their goal.
And, guys that get D1 scholly's, to big time schools, are for the most part a prodigy.
The subtlety of that savage remark will be lost on too many to be truly appreciated
I assume Gerry still holds to the 200M record in SD. Kid with that size who can run that fast is a no brainer.
He's made millions in the NFL. I'm sure he's bummed he didn't get that sociology degree that pays 30k a year with a lifetime of student debt.

Really wanted him to succeed when he was with Philly. He flashed occasionally, but quickly became a liability in many ways. Pains me to say it, but he became a disaster on the field.
Made for that position. His speed closed a lot of running lanes and he could cover.

He was a very versatile player. He had the speed to track deep passes playing free safety and the strength to stuff the run as an in-the-box SS or LB. He also seemed to have a lot of football intelligence and a knack for big plays in big games (2 INTs against Wisconsin, game changing INT against BYU, INT to stop an Iowa TD drive, etc). He could quickly diagnose outside runs and made a lot of alley stops as a result.
Let's be honest, Gerry had plenty of whiffs on one and one tackles in the open field when he was a Husker. Good for him that he had made lots of money in the NFL, but he definitely was not one of my favorite Huskers.
He was also accused of not giving 100% on the field when Riley was coach. Like people were even speculating that he was purposely trying to make us lose.

Look at all the **** we have made up about players and coaches over the last 20 years.

Well I’m not saying he did. But his play was so bad at times it led people to speculate like that.
Shoot the play has been so bad for so long that it seems like all the players were tanking! Ha
Didn't love what he did at the end but if he didn't want to play school anymore...so be it. It worked out for him really well though.
