Watched that episode in an Abel Hall dorm floor lounge along with about 30 others. We’d schedule going to residence hall meals around that show.

I forgot about the Pink Panther thing. But definitely an odd coincidence...and even more weird if you are that one guy that had lived on the floor for like 6 years :) .
Nope not that guy. Did live on the floor for 3 years though.

Korean War thoughts...

A. My father and his brother were in the Marines at that time. My father's unit was in San Francisco ready to go but they were never deployed. My uncle did get sent there for a while though.

B. Growing up, we were taught a lot about the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, World War 1, World War 2 and the Vietnam War. Heck, the Vietnam War was still going on when I was really young. But the Korean War was the 'Forgotten War'. Like it seemed like the history books covered it in a paragraph or two and that was it. Seemed kinda strange.

C. My father-in-law's family fled their village and took refuge further south in another village. That's were he met his wife and started their family. I visited their graves the last time I was there. Beautiful area.

D. Why did the American public have such different reactions to the Korean War and the Vietnam War anyway?

E, North Korea sucks.

The show was pretty good until the latter years when it devolved into full episodes of Alan Alda talking nonstop each and every episode.

Loved McLean Stevenson and Trapper John in the early years.

A large part of the different view is the way our news media portrayed the two conflicts. Walter Cronkite and his fellow communist sympathizers in the media caused that. I’m not saying we necessarily should have been in Vietnam BUT China’s long term goal of world domination hasn’t waned. We weren’t wrong about what their goal was in Vietnam. China things in terms of decades and centuries while we waffle every 4 years.

Oh my goodness.....

Walter Cronkite.....'communist sympathizer'

Wow....I'm stunned at that statement as much as anything I've ever read on here.....Dan Rather, perhaps....

A lot of Vietnam vets feel the same way about Cronkite
Cronkite came to believe (somewhat late in the war) that it was an unwinnable war, and that the American people were being lied to....he was right on both accounts. This did not make him a communist OR AGAINST THE SOLDIERS.....

While I didn't get to watch Mash as it aired, Finale was 5 years before my time, I did get to watch re-runs when I was old enough to want to and we had satellite tv. Probably early 2000's. I'm thankful my parents liked MASH, as it exposed me to an awesome show that I otherwise probably wouldn't have watched on my own accord.

The movie I feel isn't dear to me, as I only ever tried to watch it after I had seen the TV show and probably didn't appreciate it the way it deserved. I should give it another shot sometime.

Cronkite was what ended up making the war unwinnable. He destroyed the political will to see it through. What people conveniently forget is that Vietnam was JFK’s and LBJ’s war. Not saying it was the right thing to do. At least we maybe did deter China from continuing their drive throughout SE Asia though it’s clear they’re expanding their sphere of influence now. China clearly didn’t want a democracy at their door step.

Jmo the show should have ended 5 years sooner, they were running out of good writing material plus the actors and actresses really aged. But was still watched by a lot of people
