You just never know, obviously if true he still wants to play QB and if so good for him.
Hornsby should go to Texas State. If he wanted to play WR, I would think that he would have stayed at Arkansas and played WR in the SEC. The only thing that made sense to me is that he was transferring in order to start at QB. And I gotta think that he didn't have an offer to do that at Nebraska.

It doesn't make sense to bring in a transfer QB who you know is going to be a backup and the kid has an injury. Bringing in transfers in order to pay for their surgeries and have them as 3rd teamers is a Scott Frost strategy.

Okay. They’re going to get a good look at all of the younger QBs in the spring then.
Sims will enter as the de facto starter until CT is able to practice (assuming he’s able to play again at all)

Qb room not nearly as deep as some people think, especially considering 2 of the kids (smothers/purdy) are just taking up space

Rhule should’ve told both to hit the road while in the OR

Personally I hope Purdy, Smothers and Synek all stay to go with Sims and Casey. THAT would give us 4 experienced guys who have started games. That’s a luxury few teams have. I loved what I saw from Synek in last year’s spring game and would like to see what he develops in to as a walk on. Should be a fun spring for QB discussion. Would be fun to watch practices.

The only experience smothers & purdy have is feeling their legs get warm and wet just before kickoff

Agree about synek

Haarberg needs to show a LOT more accuracy in the spring scrimmage to warrant him staying. Both he and Torrez have raw talent but whether you like Purdy and Smothers or not, their experience is a big deal. Ii suspect Rhule and Satterfield think they could win games with those 2 if it came to that. At LEAST one of them needs to stay. I would HATE to have CT and Sims go down early then have to roll out Haarberg against B1G DCs.

Why is their experience a big deal?

Smothers & purdy combined for what zero wins in 5 tries as starters?

They suck & their scholarships should be written off as charitable contributions. Their parents should be embarrassed calling their sons D1 football players in social circles

Experience being terrible means less than nothing

I don’t think the losses lie at their feet. You need to dig yourself out of that trench and keep an open mind heading in to spring. I’m interested to see what happens because I do think there’s a lot of physical talent in that room. I love Smothers’ athleticism and attitude. The guy stuck around when many wouldn’t have. I think a Purdy was put in some AWFUL spots by Frost and has a lot of upside. Haarberg and Torrez are complete unknowns but they got passed by Synek. As I stated, the QB battle should be fun to follow and I’m keeping an open mind.

Smothers fumbling while we had a lead, directly resulting in our losing that lead, is somebody else’s fault?

Purdy not being able to beat a 13-year old girl in a football throwing contest is somebody else’s fault?

Yea okay. If your point is they should’ve never played a snap in the first place then I agree

From reading this board, I surmise the following.

1. The QB's that have not played are still the best shot we have at winning.
2. The QB's who have played are terrible.
3. The coaches are keeping dead weight around too long, but they are the professionals, see #1 and #2.
4. The spring games of the past are frequently referred to and when was the last time anything relevant came from one?
5. The walk ons are still part of Nebraska lore and hope for them to somehow push out a scholarship player.
6. The fact that we even learn anything in the spring games of the past
7. There must not truly be any competition for the QB position, it is bestowed on someone of favor.
8. Coaches have favorites and that is who they are going to play despite anything else, like practices, ability, leadership, etc -
9. Using the word "potential" is electrifying
10. The new coach is "very smart" but will suddenly become very dumb when the wrong player plays

Arkansas did try him at WR this year, it didn't go very well.

This is the kind of dude that will LOVE playing at Texas State. He will run whenever he wants, probably average 7-8 yards a carry, and toss up a lot of passes o WR's that are in single coveragee.

@TruHusker here are my responses to your comment:

1. The QB's that have not played are still the best shot we have at winning. only an absolute idiot would say this. Thompson is the best quarterback we have, but he's hurt & his future in football is uncertain. Sims is the de facto starter headed into spring.

2. The QB's who have played are terrible. smothers & purdy couldn't be described as anything but terrible.

3. The coaches are keeping dead weight around too long, but they are the professionals, see #1 and #2. there is no reason to whittle the roster until after spring when limits go into effect

4. The spring games of the past are frequently referred to and when was the last time anything relevant came from one? I thought it was relevant when dipshit frost opened a spring game 3 years ago with a botched trick play. just not the relevant we all hoped for.

5. The walk ons are still part of Nebraska lore and hope for them to somehow push out a scholarship player. only an absolute idiot would even type this

6. The fact that we even learn anything in the spring games of the past. purdy not being able to hit a seam route last year was something we all should've learned from instead of just me

7. There must not truly be any competition for the QB position, it is bestowed on someone of favor. idiotic

8. Coaches have favorites and that is who they are going to play despite anything else, like practices, ability, leadership, etc - idiotic

9. Using the word "potential" is electrifying - ?

10. The new coach is "very smart" but will suddenly become very dumb when the wrong player plays idiotic

in summary - you seem to be an idiot who also lacks wit, leading to not just terrible opinions but terrible opinions delivered in a very boring manner

wouldn't wish that fate on my worst enemy TBH

He is a young guy, has a dream and wants to follow it. Us old guys sit in our arm chairs and reflect on how we screwed up our lives, including chasing dreams that didn't turn out. But that is the great thing about being young and having your whole life ahead of you. You can chase a dream, it can crash and burn, and you still have time to recover.

I hope he tears it up at TS and gets a pro contract.

Wear it like a badge of honor. I personally like to be low budget (expense) but high net worth😉
I had to laugh because I kinda like TruHusker even though I flip his some crap now and then. LOL

BTW, your definition of low budget differs from mine. But, I do like your definition.

It's a s-l-o-w day in here.

This is pretty hard core truth.

We def need another signal caller after spring ball.. would have preferred another before the spring but it is what it is.

Meh...if a QB can't pass I'm not sure it matters (at all) how well they run.
there is that too but the WRs tend to get more wide open so accuracy isn't as big of a necessity. To wit Taylor Martinez..... The guy put up big passing numbers in part because defenses were scared to death of him taking off and going 80.
