What do you see as the biggest needs that still need addressed via the portal?

To me:

TE: Must find a guy here. Nothing really coming back. Fidone is a talented wildcard, but coming off two knee surgeries.

WR: Would be nice to find a true #1 to play alongside Washington.

IDL: Not a lot of big bodies on the interior DL. Nash, Wynn, Robinson have experience. But we need depth.

OL: We have numbers and experience here, but to date it hasn’t been good experience. Finding a gem or two would be huge.

Agree.
Not sure if those were in order, but I might put WR at the bottom of that list.

I think tight end is a major concern.

There are like 10 tight ends on the roster. Assuming Fidone may never come back, it is hard to believe Boerkircher and one or two other guys can't be coached up to be serviceable. Satterfield at South Carolina had the TEs catch 51 balls for 531 yards using 3 different guys. Nebraska TEs caught 37 balls for 392 yards using 3 guys (Vokolek, Brewington, Boerkircher). When I looked this up I was surprised that some folks suggested the reason we couldn't get a TE in this class was Satterfield doesn't throw to them. When in fact he throws to them more than NU does.

Anyway, I can't say I'm overly concerned about TE, but it would be nice to get an experienced, dominate TE in the portal with 2 years to play. I'd like to see another 2 DL and at least one more ILB. And a proven center would be nice.

Well said. The whole Satt doesn’t use TE’s is nonsense repeated over and over by one poster. I do think we need a reliable guy there. Kind of scary going into the year with Brockenmier being the only guy with meaningful experience.

SC has a stud that's heading to the NFL. I would have expected a lot more catches and yards but I don't think Satt's offense emphasizes TE's vertically all that much. I don't have any advanced stats to back that up, but it looks like he uses them more like H-Backs than modern TE's. I think you'll see more 6-3 to 6-4 bigger guys that can block and run after the catch, as well as dole out a little punishment on DB's. This team needs difference makers on the lines and at QB and RB much more than it needs TE's IMO.

I would like to take this time to express my gratitude to the Huskers for embracing the transfer portal and being aggressive there

I cannot imagine rooting for a team that doesn’t. Would be both extremely boring and incredibly frustrating
