the big ten has a below .500 all-time bowl record (worst of P5)

the big ten has won the least national championships of every decade vs other P5 conferences since modern football began

how can you possibly defend those facts and say it is a competitive conference with a straight face?

Because you are straining to cherry pick stats. The Big Ten plays the fewest amount of bowls on its home turf. They only could send one team to a bowl game into the 1970s; even when they had two top five teams. OSU, Michigan, Sparty, Minnesota, Illinois & the University of Chicago have all won NCs in the Big Ten. Maybe even Iowa has some sort of claim. And there is no date for "modern" football.

The Big Ten has two teams in the playoff THIS year. We will have four blue blood programs in the conference in 2024, one more than the SEC will have with OU and Texas.

I think that makes us competitive.

And 1990's footall isn't "modern" either. Nebraska's 1995 team would get boat raced by any ranked team of this year.

You can only judge a team against its contemporaries. In fifty years, today's teams will be antiquated. That doesn't mean some of them are great as of today.
most college historians reconise the 95 Huskers as the greatest team ever assembled.

mich should be worried bout tcu, not stealing NU players...
and coaches (fielding h. yost)
cause it definatly ain't happening with georgia.

So teams like Tulane, Troy, UTSA would boat race 1995 Nebraska? 🤣 YOU are not very bright.

Do you know how stupid that statement sounds..

Ask the SEC football honk what’s his name anyway he recently said the 1995 Nebraska team is the best in college football history..

He never mentioned any of those Michigan teams you cherish so much..

lol if you think 90's teams could compete with modern offenses and defenses.

Nebraska 1995 WAS a great team. Compared to other 1995 teams. Not to teams of today.

A stat that really drives the Michigan faithful nuts

Their most revered coach ever and the coach with the most wins in their history- Bo Schembechler - has a grand total of zero national titles

If you are at a blue blood program for any extended period of time and have goose eggs for national titles - you are at best a B level coach

If you want to compare that Nebraska team never had a game that was closer than 14 and that team scored late when they were behind by 21..And that Nebraska team beat 4 teams at season end in the top 10..

Florida
Colorado
Kansas State
Kansas All finished the season in the top 10..

This Michigan team has only beaten 2 and Penn St might not even be in the top 10 when it’s all said and done..

I wasn't comparing '95 Nebraska's dominance to '22 Michigan's dominance.

Never had a game closer than 14 is impressive.

Never had a game closer than 50 is somewhat more impressive.

Please name me ALL the teams they played and what were their rankings ?

Let’s see it.

Did they even have a forward pass ?LOL..Legalization of the forward pass with a variety of restrictions started in 1906..STFU..

Yup, although I don't know that he was our most revered coach, zero titles for Bo.

If he was smarter, he would have retired when the coaches would have handed him a title as a going away gift.

you do realize there was a format in place for the top 2 teams to meet on the field in a bowl game to decide a national title in 1997- the bowl alliance - right?

the big ten, however, decided to prioritize playing in the rose bowl rather than a national championship game

Nebraska showed up at the game that was supposed to have #1 vs #2 -- sadly Michigan traveled about as far as one can in the opposite direction to play their game against a lower ranked opponent than Nebraska played - and won by fewer points

You shouldn’t have been pussies and not played in the Rose bowl instead of playing in the Orange Bowl..

I do have to give Schembechler credit, however

no program was more concerned about their players prostate health than Michigan was under Bo

I would say that decision was on the Big Ten.

No one could run on Michigan in '97. You didn't have enough of a passing offense to stop us that year.

And if truth be told, one loss Florida State was the best team in the country in 1997.

No one in the Big 10 had a better running game than Nebraska..

FWIW - Vegas had Nebraska favored by 7 if they would have played the game..

Agreed: no one in the Big Ten had a better running game than Nebraska. And no team had such a one dimensional offense. Our corners could have handled your wide receivers one on one, and we could have dedicated 8-9 players to stop your running game. Your military academy passing game was pathetic.

We had two common opponents. Michigan beat both by a greater margin.

And Nebraska was only undefeated due to a ref blowing a call. You can't kick a ball into the air when you are laying on your back...

And when you add both polls together, Michigan came out on top.

And Peyton Manning was so sick when you played they would have lost to Vandy.

Nebraska also had to play an extra game against a 9-2 Texas AM team in the B12 championship in 97

so let me get this straight:

the bowls are unfair because they're not B1G home games

leather helmet, early 1900s football success before there were 50 states in America carries as much weight as success in the last 50 years

because the media sucks the B1G's dick every pre-season, for the 2nd time in 9 years ohiost backs into the playoff without even competing in its conference title game (only P5 program that has been handed an invitation to the playoffs instead of earning it more than once) simply due to its pre-season ranking

purchasing 2 blue blood programs

equals a competitive football conference

you know what actually competitive football conferences point to when asked if they're competitive? RESULTS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD

Results on the football field:

Michigan 989-352-36 (.731)
Nebraska 912-417-40 (.681)

Nebraska could win its next 150 games in a row, and would still be trailing Michigan in winning percentage.

Forget about football for a minute and realize this one simple fact. If he Hausman stays at Michigan and earns his degree, that diploma is worth a hell of a lot more than the one from Nebraska. It cannot be argued and the facts cannot be twisted in any way that would make the diploma from Nebraska better.
Not sure that bachelors degree from either school is worth all that much right now.

lol, okay. Whatever you need to tell yourself, champ.
No, please continue to explain how I’m an idiot for presenting facts about the B1G’s lack of competitiveness

I’m begging you

We all can use more lessons on the greatness of the 1902 wolverines, your best team, and how all their wins count just the same as NU’s over the ‘71 Sooners

He will get a great education if he studies and will be playing on a good team. How can anyone blame the kid for leaving?
Because he’s from Nebraska and had the potential to help us turn our program around. We have every reason, EVERY to be upset with this kid for leaving. He would have had a great education if he stayed here, would have received plenty of NIL money, and could have been a hero for helping us turn the program. As I said I hope he regrets this decision.
