Doesn't have to be that way. He could run 3-3-5 with 3-4 personnel save 1 LB for a hybrid. What's the difference? Just 1 guy who will be blitzing and coming up against the run just like the LB. IMO, if Leonhard had run it at WI with his guys, it would have been just fine in the B1G.

USC only has prototype NFL offense lineman when we talk about recruiting against them and losing out. When it comes to talking scheme, they have Nancy girls. That’s how it works here.

That’s not necessarily true. Urlacher was the rover in a 3-3-5 in college. You can also use one or even two bigger backers capable of operating as an edge rusher.

The front versatility and potential for confusing looks is exciting. If you watch the OP's linked video, it discusses how easily the defense can be transitioned to a 5-2 monster look (classic NU) or rolled into an even front.

The other thing to keep in mind is that no matter what you run most college defense only play in base 20-25% it seems. There’s a ton of situational defense and constant subs. The cuse fans are saying he will put 4-6 dudes on LOS if need be and will run different personnel groups out of the base scheme.

Suh, Crick, Collins, Gregory. Domann, David, Gomes, Prince, Dennard, White Snake and Taylor-Britt running it would work. Hagg too.

It requires elite athletes but it is possible. I do think it is unnecessarily risky BUT with UCLA, USC and Wisconsin's OC hire maybe the B1G will be less run-heavy.

I am sure Tony White has seen such things before. Rhule has stated that he wants Nebraska to return to the days of being dominant at the line of scrimmage. I therefore highly doubt he is bringing in a defensive coordinator who just wants a bunch of its-bitsy speedsters on defense.

We all need to take a chill pill. Tony White will do what needs to be done in order to defend B1G offenses. The dude isn't an idiot.

Agree. I think Rhule stated he wants to control the LOS. On offense that may be dominating with power and strength. On D it could be with speed and deception.

Let's be honest with ourselves here. We've run all manner of systems in the last 20 years on both sides of the ball, and every one of them basically has the caveat "its requires elite athletes to run well".

Football is pretty simple folks. There are have's and have nots. With our resources and competent coaching we can be a bowl->10 win team every year. If we want to be "over the top" and compete with the top half dozen teams, you need elite athletes. I don't care if you run the option or the WCO or a 4-3 or a 335. To win at the level NU wants to win at you need top shelf coaching and elite athletes.

There's no system that's going to paper over the fact we are in a low talent area, even tom didn't win the big one until he started winning in more coastal athletes living rooms. He was a phenomenal coach and had a system that minimized the need for elite athletes on the offense.
