Fine. This does happen every year. Doesn’t change the fact this guy is still gonna have some legit talent before now and signing day(s). He can only do so much with what we have. We’re not close to being great. We’re a couple standard deviations from being great.

All these 4 star skill players havent done much. Need to get the lines fixed then get the flash.
Agree with this, except Hausmann has stated that he doesn't intend to return (rumor has it Michigan)
Michigan has a lot of heavy hitter boosters. People who really thought we were going to kick *** with NIL IMO were naive. We don’t have near the alumni depth of wealth as a lot of schools

The 2023 recruiting class will not be much of anything. Same thing happened with Ruhle at Baylor the first year. Much easier to recruit at Baylor than NU.
The freshman class is less important than Jucos and transfers. We need to find a lot of instant impact talent. Currently 13 frosh still committed (in flux obviously) and I would predict we lose about 15-20 more from the current roster that we need to replace with transfers who can contribute sooner rather than later.
At that time it wasn’t. And that first class that didn’t look impressive on paper ended up pretty darn good.

That’s an extremely important point. Rankings made several years after the class entered school are WAY more relevant
Yeah, I’m surprised there’s not more junkies putting out this type of data that paints a much clearer picture (e.g. it’d be interesting to compare different sources).
Often we have at least listed the Husker record with 4 stars, which is pretty abysmal.
There’s certainly an argument for finding more guys (often local) who can at least develop and become a stable presence, instead of chasing stars that putter out at such a high rate.
This could be part of Rhule’s plan, but we still need to find studs if we want to play with the big boys.
I think it says that MAYBE Rhule’s ability to evaluate talent and P5 potential is much greater than Frost’s and the recruiting services. Considering some of the posts from our very own RecruitingAnalyst-national is there any doubt that Rhule could do better……
i think too much focus is on single classes or a single recruit
you need to stack classes year after year
if in your last 4 classes your def end recruiting is 4* - 4* - 4* - 4* your chances of getting 4* play out of that position is pretty good
The only time you need this rankings is when you are defending a hire or justifying the need to fire a coach. Those sort of rankings don’t drive posts on a daily basis. It is more fun to talk about current class rankings and current players than it is to discuss what could have been. No one, outside of teams with new coaches, is posting about the revised rankings of past recruiting classes.
True- the ones who care the most are those of us desperate to make sense of the torture we’ve suffered and needing hope to cling to for the future.
We are the market for that analysis.

Perhaps, but my point was simply that no one cares about those ratings on a daily basis or why they aren’t a prominent part of this website or any website. The only time they are relevant is when you’re defending a coaching hire or justifying why a coach was fired.
They’re relevant in historical terms to maybe explain failure and perhaps from repeating the same mistakes. Looking forward is fun but it’s all hypothetical.
OK they are relevant to people who recruit. Considering I have made no past recruiting mistakes, I do not need to know my past failures nor do I need to worry about repeating that same mistake. Neither do 99.9% of the people who post on message boards.
At the conclusion of this season, NU had 59 kids on the roster from Nebraska.
Of those 59, Hausmann, Franke, and Hein have since left. Hixson, Williams, Feist, and Bando will graduate.
The returning contributors (pending transferring out) will be Teddy, Belt, Piper, Nelson, Gifford, Luke, and Nick.
So, there will be 52 Nebraska kids left. 3 on offense and 4 on defense. (Contributors).
No real point here, just tossing out some numbers.
About 20% of the roster was Nebraska kids in contributing roles.
Rhule may be fine ... but with the transfer portal and NIL, things have completely changed since Rhule last coached in college
the blueprint for the Baylor and Temple turnaround may no longer be applicable
not sure a lot of kids are going to stick around for 2-3 years to get "developed"
Personally paying attention to the success rate of our past recruiting classes has curbed my enthusiasm for recruiting rankings to some degree. I like Rhule’s philosophy about verified track speed and then he’ll make them bigger and see where they fit.
The kids that need developing might be more likely to stick than the guys who are sure they’re ready.
But is that by choice or due to the circumstances of Nebraska having classes ranked 15-25 and the on field results not matching? I’m just saying a vast majority of message board posters aren’t in a position to care about re-ranking recruits after they are done playing. Fans of Nebraska, Texas and Texas A&M maybe the only 3 that are to defend firing coaches and Iowa, Wisconsin and Northwestern for defending why they keep their coaches despite rarely winning anything but division titles.
I get the interest for Nebraska fans right now. But if Rhule has success in the next few years using the same model he used at Baylor, is anyone really going make a point to post that the re-rankings show that Nebraska’s 2023 class was really number 13 instead of 27? I say no, we will be too busy talking about winning 10 games and who the bowl opponent will be.
For the record, my responses are simply to @HominidHusker who asked why someone didn’t spend the time on re-rankings. Those rankings are done, it’s just not discussed unless you are hiring or firing a coach.
NU did a nice job of getting Hausmann ready to go play for someone else. Might be the same thing for Allen. They were the only 2 true freshmen that stood out. I take that back, Hartzog had a really nice year too.

At the end of the day, kids that are studs want to play, and they prefer to play for a winner.

They are always relevant, way more relevant than current ratings. But yes, that just doesn’t generate the excitement that current recruiting rankings do, so probably not worth the squeeze for sites like this to do them.

**Edit** I see the day coming (if it's not already here) when a coach or coaches will seek out an opposing player after the game, during the handshakes where they tell the kid, "you really played a great game today, if you ever get tired of playing for a team that's not winning, we'd love to have you at the U of >>>" They would have then had a chance to see the kid on film, and in person as well as size up the kid to see how big he actually is.
I guarantee it happens in baseball at every level prior to the signing of actual contracts.
I think it’s already happening and there’s no doubt back channel contacts are happening.
Didn’t Mack Brown say recently that one of his starters told him he has offers from 15 other schools.
There's almost going to have to eventually be some type of recompense situation.
If a kid from school A enters the portal and signs with school B for 200K, then school B should be required to repay a like amount (or %) of that NIL contract to the school the kid transferred from.
I know it sounds barbaric, but, if they are going to treat it like free agency, then the team losing the player should be compensated.
This is a complete can of worms and like Dingle says, it likely happening all over the country.
True. I don’t quite understand the exodus out of Lincoln with Rhule at the helm. Thought the kids would be pumped to play for him but doesn’t seem to be the case yet?
