Would you stay after what they just did to him?

lol.. I don't think I would, and he's going to have options, but after Trev slow walked him, I wouldn't be massaging my junk for another season at Big Red.
Just curious, what do you think they did to MJ?

that’s an interesting take. I would think if that was a factor it would come out eventually.
So Carolina is paying a decent amount of the front end of the contract. If I read correctly, he is only getting $5.5 mil year one, so Carolina is paying $2.5 for him to be whole.

Rhule’s agent hit a home run. We see the salary escalation but do we know if the full contract is guaranteed at that amount?

NM Trev says 90% guaranteed. Apparently the posters saying that Carolina was involved in the contract negotiations was correct.
Seems weird to me and it almost cost Rhule the job.

What did they do to him?

Dude got an 8 game interview. He didn't win enough. Just the way it is.
Mickey’s national perception rose immensely. His stint as interim thanks to Trev is going to make Mickey a lot of money and likely present opportunities he would have never had.

Yeah but @NikkiSixx seems to be saying that trev screwed MJ over. Just curious why he thinks that.

Doesn’t think he gave MJ a real shot at the job. The fact is that IF Mickey had got NU to 7 wins the noise from the fan base probably would have forced Trev to retain him. MJ didn’t show enough to keep the job.

I think he did a little bit.

You saw the same stuff unfold as everyone else.

When Rhule goes 3-6 next year, people will tell us to be patient, yet they didn't give MJ that same patience. I think he got effed over.

TA himself said he knew it was going to be Matt Rhule from a long time ago. Rhule and Ted Carter go way back. I don't think MJ ever had a shot. Can't prove it, but that is what I see.

Rhule is not keeping MJ.. he would have to take a down level job, and so we might lose a few players and recruits as MJ will go somewhere else and have success.

We might have success too, but it's going to be torn down now, and so maybe in 3 years we get to a winning season.

I don't expect the next couple of years to be very good.

That's ridiculous. He had his shot and didn't win enough games.

Truthfully he was probabiy just a couple plays and a few questionable game decisions from giving Trev no choice but to hire him. But at the end of the season, he didn't win enough.

Fair enough. I completely disagree. I really think he had a very long interview process. He and Trev met every Sunday.

Husker football is not all but dead. I feel way better about this hire than I did about Scott Frost.

Eh. I don't know about that. I loved me some Mickey Joseph, but I think Nebraska finally needed a guy who likes to do the dirty work and Rhule is that guy. I think Mickey did an admirable job but he also had a lot of blunders. I know he has never been the head guy and some of that could be expected, but I actually think that Busch was the real hero of this season and not Mickey. If not for our D playing a ton better, Mickey wouldn't even be close to an option. Kudos that he fired Chins, but if that D continues to play the same way we probably don't win another game.

will you say that next year when Matt has a losing season?

See, MJ was the right fit in my opinion. He never got the chance to get a new OC in. This new guy, in my opinion is not the right fit.. and this will bear out in time..

Oh they spent a lot of time talking about fit during the press conference, but that is because 'the fit' is actually a problem.

First rule of anything.. whatever is being highly advertised, whatever that drumbeat is, it's the opposite. It happens in every organization.

Companies that promote how they value their customer service, are the worst at it. Those that advertise their cheap prices, are not the cheapest. On and on.

This whole deal about fit, is the same thing. I believe it is why Matt initially didn't want the job/turned us down. Trev and Ted got in there and sold him on this fitment thing and got him to change his mind.

There was another interesting moment during yesterdays festivities, where after picture taking, Matt shook hands with Ted and Ronnie, then looked back to Trev to shake hands, and Trev was so done with it.. it was quite telling.. Trev was tired of playing the charade.. I had to laugh.

Anyway, I hope the guy does a good job.. but my expectations are pretty low.

I don't want to do too much complaining because for others, they are happy and see this as some sort of new future, and I don't want to crap all over everybody's new dream.. but I see it as a big missed opportunity to set the program straight, and it saddens me quite a bit.. I'm not always right, so hopefully I'm wrong about this guy, but I'm entitled to my opinion.

See, you're trying to insinuate that I'm a miserable person, and this isn't true. You repeatedly asked for my opinion and I gave it to you. I'm sorry I don't share the optimism. What you are doing now is basically trying to attack my character, just because you didn't like what I had to say. That isn't cool Johnny.

You’d be one of the very few doing cartwheels if Trev hired Mickey, the rest of the fan base would want Trev fired immediately and ran him out of the state..

With no head coaching in a Power5 conference experience it was more than risky to hire another guy who played QB under TO to lead us into the new B1G in two years..

This is what happens after you hife Mike Riley and then have Scott **** the bed the way he did. I think we are all miserable. I think for me, I'm just happy it seems like Rhule likes building. I think we will get some athletes in here and I tend to agree with @king_kong_ that the Big 10 West is currently ****. It isn't as heavy a lift as people think it is. We are at one of the lowest times in our history and still basically had the opportunity to win every game in the West Division and knocked off some east teams. The West currently is a joke and I don't see it getting much better any time soon. I guess we will have to see what happens with the divisions in the future.

I didn't do that at all. I just said it must be miserable. It seems like it would be. I haven't attacked you in anyway.

Sorry you feel that way. But it just isn't the case.

"it must be miserable to not think the way I do"

lol

I get what you're saying, but Nikki's point stands. trepidation =/= unhappiness despite the dozens who seemingly cannot separate the two

Dude thinks husker football is dead or is about to be. If that true what's there to look forward to? That just sounds miserable.

I'm not picking on the guy. I certainly didn't attack his character. I think he is a good poster here. Which is why I was curious why he is so adamant that MJ got screwed.

I don't agree that he got screwed and I don't think husker football is on it's death bed.
