whatever blockhead trev did, it wasn't enough

would be pretty unsurprising if he just assumed Fickell didn't want to leave cincy like most here & never even reached out

my goal here is to discuss Nebraska Football. I am not offended, nor am I a stranger to being disagreed with. it's a real shame my opinion (which is correct) has triggered so many here.
So what would your position be if you found out Trev offered Fickell with the stipulation that he keep Mickey on staff, then Fickell said he would be our coach, but did not want Mickey on staff so Trev went with Rhule? Would you still think Alberts is a blockhead?

Trev got with Alvarez. Alvarez conned Trev and UW got the big prize for less money

This is a quote from Barry, I wouldn’t say he was ecstatic about the news.

“You know what, I love Jimmy,” Alvarez said. “I think Jimmy would have done a good job. I hate to go there. Jimmy’s done a great job and he’s a great coach. I don’t want to say anything. All I know, I love Jimmy. Jimmy’s done a great job for us, a tremendous job, and I have all the respect in the world for him. I don’t want to go any further. I’m just going to say good things about our new guy.

10-3 - the last time cincy finished inside the final AP top 25 before Fickell. I don't think they've been unranked for a single week now since 2019
Dude you are literally acting like a little bvtch. If you are so football intelligent, why aren't you in coaching? You are no better than anyone else here. Stop being an insufferable cvnt and stfu.

yes

an even bigger blockhead than before

bad enough TO is already telling Rhule who to hire while insisting on not being a disruptive presence

Between Rhule and Fickell, Fickell is the safest bet.

The numbers now say Wisconsin got the better coach.....and for probably less money, for those who are penny pinchers for some dumb reason.

We'll see if recruiting plays a factor here. I think Rhule might be the better recruiter, but we'll see. I think even Mike Riley out recruited Wisconsin and it didn't stop the coach with the better record from winning despite not having access to the name Nebraska.

I'm trying real hard to not speak what I feel about this because I'm trying to be supportive. I think Rhule will out recruit Fickell at Wisconsin. Hopefully he beats Wisconsin and Fickell.

Dammit.

I also would have been happy with any of: Rhule, Fickel, Urban. Urban was always a long shot fantasy. It appears Trev targeted Rhule over Fickel and he got him. So far, so good.
I didn’t want Fickell. I think he’s reached his ceiling

Don't understand the angst.

We brought in a guy that has already done -- twice -- exactly what needs to be done here.

And we didn't go "cheap" which was a loud desire from this board as well.

If Fickell signs with Wisconsin for less money, that means we landed a guy higher on our list than Fickell. Possibly/probably our #1 target.

Now, if we had signed Monken this week, I'd be resigned to the fact we're done. But that didn't happen.

Did Wisconsin hire Steve Pederson? I think they just screwed themselves.

And they got destroyed. I think he’s a 7-8 win coach in the B1G.

Did Alabama even take that game seriously? For a team that liked chucking it around they ran the ball 47 times that game. They knew Cincinnati had absolutely no shot of beating them.

One things for sure that it doesn't look like it's a popular hire there so he could very well get run out of town if he doesn't win big immediately. Could be some major turmoil in Wisconsin if they aren't careful.

Didn't even make the conference championship game this year.

Yeah I suppose it might be difficult to go to your CCG every year. He's won it twice and gone one other time.

...and I'm going to stop there because I'm trying to be supportive...

Mixed emotions on the Badger boards—incredulity, happiness, but also a fair amount of anger. It’s hard to overstate just how popular Leonhard is in that state; the guy has been a legend since his playing days, he’s fielded top 10 defenses more than once, and until this morning, almost everyone expected him to get the job. For his part, Leonhard made sacrifices to stay with UW, turning down a job with the Packers under the assumption (real or perceived) that he was the head coach in waiting.

UW is taking a calculated risk to distance themselves from “ The Wisconsin (Alvarez) Way” that led to decades of success. The current program trajectory wasn’t good, and maybe they don’t think it can work anymore in this new era. Who knows—maybe they’re right. But for some reason (can’t put my finger on why), their situation seems oddly familiar…

I agree. They have been trending down as i is,
Somebody who actually looked at their situation thought that most of their problem this year was a youngish O line. He thought they were hasty in firing Chryst given his longer term success. I fully expect this to bite them in the ***.
