What a great segment. First time I've watched Game Day in over 10 years waiting for this interview. GBR!!!!!!
And all the worries about him jumping ship are nonsense to me. He seems like a Nebraska type guy to me and once he's winning here it would be really hard to leave IMO. It would be really hard to find a better gig than Nebraska when you're winning.

I didn't get that sense at all watching him talk. He doesn't give me that cocky fratboy ego Frost had. I get that you only care about results, but you can't already be talking about giving him a short leash before he even coached a game.
The only problem could come IF he gets to 9 wins but gets run over by the better teams….that or if PSU opens up. Deal with that when and IF it happens.
Situated in a sweet conference with marquee games against tOSU, Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin and USC.
I doubt he would jump ship if he is successful here. He failed in the NFL so he probably would not want to leave a great gig here to bolt to the league again. And if he wins here he will be a legend and a hero. Nebraska, when it is successful, is a destination job. All that said, I worry what would happen if he wins here and then the PSU job opens up. PSU fans are not happy with Franklin. He is on thin ice in my opinion.
Mentioning Frost and Mickey is strategic. It shows respect to both men, the players that supported them, and the fans that also support them.

I hope he got the NFL out of his system. He sounds to me like he's a college coach when I hear him. Wants to develop relationships and turn boys into men. Pro players aren't interested in that nearly as much.
You should inquire about a job, maybe you could show Rhule what needs to be done.

Competitive people want to compete at the highest level. I don't blame him for trying his hand at the NFL. Saban, Urban, Harbaugh, Chip Kelly, etc. all did too.
As an alum from that school unless the balance of power shifts I just don’t see them bringing in someone as head coach who had any ties to the Paterno era as a player or a coach at least not in the foreseeable future. Too many hard feelings and the desire of many of the people in power to move on from that period.
I think he's a really good fit. Nebraska is going to get studs, just not as many as Ohio St, but the key is he is a developer of talent too. Sounds like a coach we had back in the day that got studs here, but also developed the under the radar guys into studs.
I have lived in Pennsylvania since 1994. I know the mood of PSU fans very well. I hear it every day, especially during football season. My best friend is a huge PSU fan and he has taken me to numerous games at Beaver Stadium where I hung out with tons of fans. And I can say unequivocally that there are NO negative feelings toward Paterno and his program among 99% of PSU fans. They all think Paterno got a raw deal and they think the NCAA sanctions were way too harsh and motivated by a preening NCAA head who wanted to posture for the media. PSU fans would not blink twice at hiring a coach who has ties to that era. And the "people in power" are not the same people who were in charge back then. That whole incident is viewed as yesterday's news around here and nobody gives a **** about it anymore.
Yep, and tons of PSU fans are royally pissed about that since it means Franklin would be expensive to get rid of. Yes they are 9-2. But who did they lose to? Ohio State and Michigan, just like they do almost every year. And around here that is just not acceptable to most fans. They are not content to be the third best team in the B1G year in and year out. They do not want to be the ugly step sister to OSU and Michigan.
My point is not that Franklin is on the verge of getting fired. My point is that he is not popular among the fans and if in five years Rhule has Nebraska humming along as a great team again, and if Franklin keeps losing to OSU and Michigan, then that discontent is going to grow and a lot of people around here will be calling for his head. PSU has deep, deep pockets. They could afford a buyout a that point.
