I think he would have to try to get a hardship ruling to transfer but I think he had 30 days from the time Frost was fired.I would answer that with a question...can he transfer a second time and be eligible to play right away? The answer to that question is prolly the answer....I find it difficult to believe the NFL is his next stop, next year. So if he wants to continue to play ball.....what are his options??
The only way he wouldn’t is if he has a dude who he knows wants to transfer in.Depends on if the next coach wants him
Here or another transfer destination is his last stop. I don't think he's NFL material.I would answer that with a question...can he transfer a second time and be eligible to play right away? According to the professional QB analysts I read on Casey, he has a ton of holes in his game, and his likely draft status would be as an Undrafted Free Agent. The only way he wouldn’t is if he has a dude who he knows wants to transfer in.
What if he’s retained as WR/AHC?Unless MJ is retained, there will be another coaching change and another 30 day transfer window.
Spelling autocorrect got ya. Hate that feature. Sometimes I have to type things 3-4 timesAccording to the professional QB analysts I read on Casey, he has a ton of holes in his game, and his likely draft status would be as an Undeclared Free Agent.
The report I saw was very comprehensive, I'll try to dig it up and post it because there are glaring weaknesses according to this fella. According to CT himself, he's an elite thrower and runner, but the guys who get paid to analyze things like that have a strong disagreement with Casey's self-assessment.
Depending on who the new HC is, next year will likely be the first time in maybe 6 years NU would have a legitimate battle for the QB spot.
CT was announced as the QB early and based on the non-results of the last 3 games, it was correct. Given the QB group, probably wasn't that hard to see.
I think Grant is leaving with a bad taste in his mouth. He was having a great year, but then it all went to **** for him in the last few games. Not many touches, nowhere to run, and he looks really frustrated. I'd like him to stay, but I think he moves on.If MJ is retained I think CT and Palmer will return to raise their draft status. Palmer has had a horrible case of the dropsies the past few games and with CT being injured he will need to show the NFL he is still viable. THEN, if they could convince Grant to return with them, this would be a great foundation for the new coach to start with. Imagine a competent OC with this to work with. The OL will be addressed with transfers and JUCO's. Could be fun.
?? Now I see. Undrafted Free Agent. Good catch dingle. **I did edit it.**Spelling autocorrect got ya. Hate that feature. Sometimes I have to type things 3-4 times
I found the NFL scouting report on Thompson. Here is what it says:?? Now I see. Undrafted Free Agent. Good catch dingle. **I did edit it.**
Now I see the damn thing has a mind of its own. LOL
I found the NFL scouting report on Thompson. Here is what it says:
Thompson has intriguing mobility to extend plays and good arm talent, but his lower body mechanics, pocket awareness, and ball placement leave much to be desired.
Thompson frequently uses all levels of the middle of the field despite not having great size. His mobility allows him to escape the pocket and make plays. Thompson appears comfortable throwing on the run and keeps his eyes downfield when he exits the pocket. He doesn't have an elite arm, but he's capable of connecting on throws right around 50 yards downfield. Thompson puts excellent touch on his deep throws and is surprisingly productive on downfield passes.
Thompson improved the process of working through his progressions from 2021 to 2022. However, he still suffers from many inconsistencies and shortcomings. He's drawn a lot of penalties early in 2022 and his pre-snap process still seems undeveloped. Thompson's ball placement is erratic, which leads to many plays where his targets don' even has a chance to make a play on the football. Thompson's lower body mechanics are all over the place. He takes plenty of unnecessary and inefficient steps in the pocket, stays on his toes too much, and often throws from an uneven base, which destroys his accuracy.
His whip-like throwing motion has an extended wind-up, and he sometimes throws with a low release angle that leads to underthrown passes. He's also vulnerable to overthrows on deep passes where he's targeting general space rather than a specific catch point. Thompson's pocket awareness is below-average. Some of his pass attempts to the sideline seem to lose steam in midair.
fwiw
He seems to be self-aware of how good he thinks he is. As non-analysts, we can all see the areas he needs a lot of improvement.Being honest, he has had lots of opportunities to work on that pocket awareness issue.
As a side note, Ochaun Mathis is a projected 5th-round pick. Lots and lots of downsides to his scouting report. A pass rusher with no plan and slow recognition of the plays. Among several other things, they like his athleticism and speed, but way more negatives than positives. They think he will make a good backup at the next level. He seems to be self-aware of how good he thinks he is. As non-analysts, we can all see the areas he needs a lot of improvement.
Not to dog the kid, cause he's by far the best NU has, but you're right, if he wants to continue past college he has work to do in several areas.
I thought that the pro scouting report was right on point as to his strengths and weaknesses.
At this point without knowing who the new head coach is going to be, it's pointless to speculate on which players and/or coaches might be returning or leaving. Doubtful they know themselves until the situation gets cleared up.He didn't have that great a year and with a porous line he didn't have a chance.
Our o line is not completely devoid of potential and I personally think they have as a unit made some progress under Raiola. As a side note, Ochaun Mathis is a projected 5th-round pick. In the 2023 draft, Turner Corcoran is a projected 3rd rounder. He gets a lot of attention from the pros based on his size, versatility, and footwork. His major drawback is a lack of consistency. They think he can play any of the 5 positions on the OL.
Bryce Benhart is not listed among the top 50 Right Tackles in college. Not a big surprise there.
If he has NFL aspirations, coming back here may be his best option. If he doesn't, he might want to hang up his spikes and get on with his life.He didn't have that great a year and with a porous line he didn't have a chance.
Oh, he said it in an interview. When has Casey Thompson given a breakdown of his game and being an ELITE thrower and runner? I must have missed it
compared to anyone named martinez he's joe montana as far as passing. When has Casey Thompson given a breakdown of his game and being an ELITE thrower and runner? I must have missed it
My question would be, where would he go?Unless he's planning on being done with football, I expect him to be back next year and likely starting. Unless new HC has his guy he brings.
A lot of new coaches would make bringing in “their guy” at QB a top priority. It all depends on a number of things like experience level of “their guy.” But I agree having the inside track to start is a factor.I think the only way CT leaves is if they bring in a super stud QB in the transfer portal that is seen as nearly guaranteed to start next year. As it stands, CT has got the starting job locked down. As long as that is the case, I don't think he leaves.
I’ll respectfully disagree with that notion. They’re really awful…. like REALLY awful… despite having adequate experience to be serviceable. Fewer penalties I think points to some coaching though. Our o line is not completely devoid of potential and I personally think they have as a unit made some progress under Raiola.
