I would be extremely pissed that it took so long to get in these last 2 games.
And one wonders how many other players on the team are also pissed over that fact. Especially the offensive players. They know as well as anyone who the better QB is. It has to cause them to doubt the coaches.

K-State has a bit of a defense problem tonight with a small case of previous week victory hangover.

Perhaps Purdy was better than Smothers in practice. Generally whoever does better in practice gets the starting job.

According to Server this morning he mentioned that Smothers isn’t a good practice player during the week.. FWIW..

Maybe he should be getting better? Hasn’t he been here for 3 years?

not being able to clearly beat out purdy is ridiculously bad

hope we never have to see either again

As a senior at Muscle Shoals, Smothers helped the team to a 12-1 record by passing for more than 2,000 yards and 27 touchdowns.

He completed 65 percent of his passes and threw for 1,702 yards and 14 touchdowns as a junior.

As a sophomore, Smothers threw for 2,041 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He threw for more than 1,500 yards as a freshman.

Apparently the micro-second Logan Smothers arrived on the UNL campus he forgot how to pass and got the rep that he should be used only in running situations. Either that, or the OCs didn't have a clue how to use him for both running and passing.

As a general rule of thumb, although there are some exceptions, how you practice is how you play.
Yes... and the coaches went into this last game yesterday admitting that Purdy gets nervous and needed to get that figured out... Which is hilarious (in a not very funny way) considering that playing scared is known as the way that most likely gets yourself and others hurt. The coaches failed hard this week

OC's records speak for themselves...

He's good in practice, so he's the exception to the rule you play like you practice.

If Purdy practiced so well why did Mickey say in last Tuesday's presser that Purdy gets nervous and needs a lot of positive reinforcement? Must practice better than he plays a game. Bring Harrberg or Masker up to be in the Top 3 Qb group and send Purdy to the scout team. If this upsets Purdy too bad. Let him enter the transfer portal. Whoever is the head coach next year is surely not going to play him.

Then he should play a lower level, this is supposed to be big boy football

I can't tell if you're being serious or not, especially with your screen name. Seem like a troll I should put on ignore tbh
Most likely, since Purdy was the starter, it's likely because he was better in practice than Smothers, since Mickey doesn't strike me as someone who plays favorites.

I do fault Mickey for not pulling Purdy out of there sooner when it was clear that he wasn't going to be effective.

You guys have way too much faith in Smothers. Besides the circus catch by Washington, he had about 50 yards in total offense. Teamwise 3 points
When we had a chance to to tie the game late he completely choked

At this point, I have more faith in Smothers than I do Purdy. I am not sure if Purdy is playing injured, but his throws had less zip on them than a seventh grader. He looked like he couldn't throw more than thirty yards. His arm strength was shockingly bad.

Casey Thompson is the only true competitor we have at QB. We are really thin after that.

I can't manufacture faith in either one. Two sides of the same coin. Smothers two big chances ended up with AM-Joe Dailey looking endings. His interception last year in the Iowa game wasn't anywhere close to a reciever and his completely mindless throw yesterday (I thought he just threw it away out of bounds another poster thought he was throwing to a tight end but the pass was just that bad). He could have simply ran for a first down.
He makes very bad decisions under pressure.

As reported:
The WR didn’t run the route he was suppose to vs what Coverage Iowa ran. Smothers threw to the route he was suppose to. True it made him / it look extremely bad…
Playback Saturday on the 3rd & 5 that I definitely agree with him running it shows the TE behind the OLB & on the SL. I saw Tom Brady miss an open guy today. Fact is, Smothers was in his 3rd drive of the entire game trying to make something happen. Again, I agree & wish he had ran the ball but I also wish Palmer catches the pass Smothers puts on the money on a 4th & 5 that was the biggest most pressured play of the game but let’s not talk about that. As you put it, sense he makes bad decisions under pressure though maybe Purdy will play the Michigan game. 🤦🏻‍♂️
