I'm reading it's mainly down to Rhule, Mickey, Patterson, and Monken.

If that's our selection, I say Monken!
Not me Red.

Monken would be my last choice, in fact, would have never been my choice.

I also wouldn't want Patterson at age 62. DC for 2-3 years would be fine.

Is that based off the football scoop article yesterday? I think Stoops is still in play and love the idea of Marrow and Mickey on the same recruiting staff.
Especially now that NIL would really let Marrow pretty much do whatever he wants. I think he had a "reputation" on the trail.

I'm going on a limb that no one knows nothing in regards to the search. No one knew nothing when Riley was announced to USC. We are using the same consulting firm. It might be someone who isn't being mentioned much or if at all right now.

Yeah, as well as some older articles that seem to say what this latest one is saying - one of these 4 guys.

Going off that alone, I like Monken most. But then again, I'd entertain Chadwell coming here lol even though he's probably not quite ready for P5...
I'd put Monken hiring as equivalent to the fan's excitement with hiring Riley.

Chadwell seems too much like Frost. Runs an offense that works in a low-level conference, but mostly because he has a great QB to run it. Defense is an after-afterthought. Would probably bring his entire staff of guys who have little to no Power 5 experience.
Didn't NU already try that once?

Only if Monken runs more of what TO did. Flexbone is mostly just B-back up the middle or qbs keeping it. Army rarely seems to pitch the ball. I do not want our QB to have triple digits in attempts running the ball.

true, running the qb can get you a heismen, but makes you one dimensional...pitching to a I back work horse, or monster full back is key..

traditional thinking leads to traditional results

I hope Nebraska is way outside the box for our next head coach

I bet UT is glad this wasn't their thought process when hiring Huepel.

Honestly, I have no idea who we should hire, just being argumentative.
Let's go!! j/k

Frost is not Heupel and we don't know where Chadwell fits between Frost and Heupel.

Heupel has been running lots of offenses and has landed on a helluva QB.

They also pass like 5.3 times a game. I think even in an option offense you have try to pass at least 15 times a game.

Teams that rely on a running quarterback often find themselves needing to rely on their second or third string quarterback due to injury.

And maybe we would win 7 or 8 games a year. That’s about it.
I agree Monken is the option if Nebraska is ready to likely (i assume) never be able to win the conference again. We would most likely bottom out at 6 wins and could have a really good season of 10 max in a great year.

They say Baylor will pay whatever it takes to keep him and he will stay.

They also say Stoops and Klieman are interested. However, the writers over there mostly seem to be on the Mickey Joseph train. Just an FYI. Maybe they know, maybe not.
It’s been my experience that people will come for the money, but they won’t stay for the money.

The Culture and Environment have to be right, or they are moving on. If you’re good, there are other places that have an Opportunity and will pay enough.

I assume he is talking about the Minnesota game? Which I mean not sure you are going to find a ton of Nebraska fans who hate running games. So not sure what his point is.

Yes, the mighty Flecks. 51st in scoring offense. That's the standard.

As much as possible, I want to pull from coaches who’ve proven capable winning P5 games, and preferably B1G or SEC games against non-bottom feeders.

While others might be capable, I’d like that proven resume to shine bright.

If we’re going to go gambling, I’d probably rather gamble with Mickey just to see what happens.

Listen.. We need a HC that is a proven winner in the B1G or the SEC. Anything less and we are just throwing our money away.
It's silly to hear all these other names being thrown out there. I'm sure they'll take our money and be gone in 3 years along with Trev Alberts.
Do you want to play with the big boys or not? All this other **** is just nonsense.

I don't care what who it is but these should be requirements.

1. Has to have atleast 65-35 run pass ratio. Fits into the culture most want and plays well in the big 10.
2. Pay out the ever living *** for the best offensive line and defensive line coach money can buy.
3. Fill out the rest of the staff with no worse than competent position coaches. No more of this having 3 or 4 buddy guys on the staff that can't or won't recruit.
4. LEGIT STRENGTH COACH.

With Nebraska's money, a respected coach and AD should be able to pull this off. If we wanna win like the big guys, we can't eff this up and go cheap.

I can agree with all but #1. I don't see the need to make sure it's a 65-35 run pass ratio. If you have #2 and #4 on your list the offense they currently run would be highly successful and fun to watch.

So WHO is on this list for TA to go after? Urban? Not coming here. Saban? Not coming here. Smart? Not coming here. Kiffin? I wouldn't turn him away but I doubt he's coming here. Heupel? Not coming here. Harbaugh? Not coming here. Bielema? Not coming here. Fleck? Not coming here. Brohm? Not coming here. Franklin? Not coming here. WHO do you think we can get? I have a feeling we are just throwing our money away.

I’m not a fan of Patterson as head coach. Something tells me no matter who gets hired a third of us aren’t going to be happy
Choices are awful because Trev can't sell. Rhule is the only decent one on that list.

Option offenses need to run through the QB. And I'd be perfectly fine with that if we ran an option offense. That being said, now's not the time for experimentation. The time we could have done that is when we hired Riley, but instead we chose the guaranteed failure option instead of the long shot.

We are talking about the wrong coach Monken. We need Todd Monken, the current OC at Georgia. He has been a college head coach (in three years turned Southern Mississippi from an 0-12 team to 9-5), offensive coordinator at numerous colleges and has extensive NFL OC experience. He is from Wheaton, IL and still has connections to high school coaches there.
If Trev is targeting a Monken, it should be Todd Monken.

I’d be good with Todd Monken. Frankly, if we are choosing based on just our eyeballs, I’d prefer Klieman, or Mark Stoops, or Dykes, or Todd Monken.

I won’t pretend I know who would be successful here either anymore, I’ll give the new guy halfway into year 2, then we will know if we are on the way back or still suck.

If Jeff Monken is even under consideration, that tells me that at least 50 other coaches have already turned us down.
