Defense played well enough for a win

The offense laid an egg then pissed down their leg... 4 turnovers last I saw. Great waste of a defensive effort. Great game plan Whip. NOT

The fact that we didn't have a backup plan for once CT inevitably went down is despicable.

The Defense did play pretty well but the game was over after Thompson went down. The QB drop off after him is steep and there was no chance for a comeback.
Not that steep imo. Everyone calls for Haarberg, but I've seen for years Maskers is the best pure passing QB on roster.

How Whipple doesn't see that OR Haarberg is baffling...

Our o-line is terrible. I truly think playing Smothers and running the read option is the best bet going forward. The o-line is bad at run blocking. But they’re horrendous at pass blocking.

We're playing against top 10 defenses. We need to hold teams to well under 20 points for any chance at a win and our defense isn't doing it.

I agree. I thought the D played well enough to win. If CT hadn't been hurt, and our offense had continued to keep us in the game, who knows how much more they might have stepped up?

I thought the defense would get torched, but they played better than expected. Still too many mistakes if we want to look like a winning team.
Casey was not playing that well, but then we were completely inept after his injury. I don’t understand how backups can practice virtually every day for a couple years or more and be incapable of running the offense.
1 first down? embarrassing.

Hard to come that the full conclusion that the D really did play well. Bielema pulled the emergency brake on the game plan after the QB injury and comfy lead. No need to take risks.

Is the stat line correct the ILL QB missed two passes all game? Not sure that qualifies as well enough to win?

It’s is hard to tell. But 4 turnovers isn’t helping the defense. And the d got a gift TO, the offense gave it right back.

I think if Purdy is planning to start all week, we may be better on offense going forward. He is not as good as Thompson but our offensive line is so bad, you HAVE to have mobility.

We're screwed at QB right now. Thompson can't stay healthy with that OL in front of him. Looks injury prone anyway. We're also seeing the failures of Frost and Harry Potter when it comes to QB development. Too bad as it looks like the defense is slowly coming around. Bye-bye bowl

Not a great situation for Purdy to be in, esp given the Oline. Suffice it to say he didn’t handle it well. But yes, he does have better potential in the run game.

It’s beyond me as i watched Purdy make awful decisions and throws why we didn’t go to Masker. Honestly he could have done no worse and I don’t believe he would have made the mistakes Purdy did

I know you don’t like Nebraska football but you might try watching sometime with all the criticism you do about it. 10 (but more like 17) of the 26 were on the offense. Not the D

Hate the Huskers all you want but let’s not ignore reality completely

I am friends with a close relative of Masker's. Sat next to him watching the game yesterday. He can't say a whole lot about the current situation. I was told that Frost was a total A hole though.

Because Nebraska will never get better until the most qualified players play. I don't know because I'm not a coach and I don't attend Nebraska's practices, but I suspect there are a number of guys sitting the bench who could do better than who we are starting. Why, I can't say. Where the hell is Haarberg?

His game plan had us ahead before CT went down. He also had a couple of plays called that would have been very big gainers if the players involved had executed better. Whip's mistake was not going with Smothers, not calling a poor game.

Putting in a fourth string QB with zero live experience (Haarberg) against one of the best defenses in college, would have been irresponsible. Smothers should have played most of the game after it was clear Purdy wasn't ready.

3rd and 11 up 9 to 6 and deciding to throw it killed the game.

Agree. We'll never know, but Masker "may" have entered the game, played ordinary QB ball, not made mistakes, and given NU a lift. Again, he may have made lots of errors.

It appeared to me, with Purdy at QB, NU was stuck in an offense that had to be condensed in an area no more than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. How are you supposed to run an offense like that if you have no running game?

I wish we could have found out since the white flag was already being raised by those decision-makers.

When the coaching staff just gives up, my old give-a-****-meter goes to 0 in a hurry.

As much as I like the way Reimer plays, his untimely QB roughing penalty was as bad as a turnover by the offense.

Illinois is a rushing team and I counted that they threw 2 incomplete passes all day. We throw 3 interceptions, They throw 2 incompletions. Illinois could have named the final score. They showed some mercy and eased up on us after CT went down. Our defense is ransid and was just as much to blame for the loss as the offense.

One play killed this game for us, and we all know what that play was.

Yeah that one.

At worst the score at half should have been 13 to 9 with our starting QB still playing.

We gifted a TD on that drive. Then had sht play by our back up QB who shouldn't have even been playing by throwing a pick. Setting up another TD. When we should have set up for a field goal to make it a one score game.

Game over.

3rd and 11 seems like a passing scenario.

Not when you are on your side of the field against the number one defense in the country. With our OL.

This is why we keep losing because we dont understand B1G football.

We think it's the BIg 12 still.
