-He is a head coach who's won at multiple colleges
-Won big games in the SEC
-Is winning big at Liberty, just beat BYU

-What he did at Ole Miss is now legal

Seems like Auburn would be a good fit for him. He's a Southern guy, can't see him in the Big Ten.

What he did at Ole Miss would still get a coach fired today.

I am all for second chances and he is a great coach. Should definitely be a strong candidate.

I hope he stays at Liberty... He has a great gig there, plays golf every Thursday even during the season. The administration supports him and is going into a conference he can dominate. Where is the down side of this job? (I am bias though, this is my alma mater)

Yep. Heard him interviewed about being at Liberty more than once. He went out of his way to talk about all the reasons he won't leave and why it's a perfect fit.

While there may not be many perfect home run hires, it’s actually a good feeling that there are quite a number of legitimate candidates out there, many who seem realistic to land.
Granted, we have a pretty low bar to clear, but there’s a long list of viable options. Makes me anxious to find out who it is.

Then there’s the Mickey dilemma. I would love to at least give the guy a fair chance, but reality seems to be it may land on the too ā€˜risky’ side to keep him as head man.
Hope we can convince him to stay on staff though. That’d be a huge win.

On the field he is 102-44. That's good for a 69.86 win%.

He is currently 33-12 at Liberty which is good for a 73.33 win%!

He is 6-2 in bowls good for a 75.00 win%!

He has missed the post season 2 times out of the four teams he's coached in 11 years during his ascension!

He's all the negatives of Urban Meyer without the rings and the impact. We have better options.

Everyone talks about our "options" - who are these options? Everyone seems to disse Freeze, Ruhle, Aranda, Campbell, Fleck, Whittingham, Leipold, Kleiman, for one reason or another - who the hell is left?

Without the impact? Who are you comparing him to in these better options? Fickell I'd yhink the only other name outside of Urban who is not at a P5 school already with a SOLIDLY proven winning habit.

The best on the market by win% are Urban Meyer, Hugh Freeze, and Luke Fickell.....
Maybe Paul Chryst.

Those guys have the tenure with the record to go with it. All the other names on the list have shallow college records or are barely .600

Exactly, well said. What happens when the "other" options don't work out?

Freeze should be in any HC list, but I haven't seen his name in any.

He might make a good head coach at Nebraska, but I just don't see the Nebraska administration hiring a coach with NCAA violations in his background.

Bill O’Brien checks all the Boxes. The question is if we check his boxes. He’s going to have multiple opportunities. I have to believe Auburn will throw the bank at him.

No he doesn’t. He’s a good coach, but doesn’t check all the boxes.

Well of course spending time on Saben staff the past two years isn’t hard figuring that Auburn would be their top candidate..

BOB is an angry WM. Was in Pennsylvania when he coached PSU. IMO the performance was overrated and the conference was not as strong as it is tight now. His departure was sudden and weird. I prefer someone else but would take him.

He doesn't check all the boxes. This guy's total coaching record sucks. And if we want to separate college from pro I'm good with that.

His college record is one in which he didn't really suffer through the sanctions placed on PSU for 1. And his coaching in college is as deep as the Platte River in July.

If Nebraska goes out to the wishing well here in hiring a sub .700 coach just going on the gut feeling and "right fit" who goes to my church sporting a spotless robe hoping he does well...because you know....this is Nebraska..., they are making the same mistake as they did with Riley. Squeaky clean nice guy with a record that will not progress the football program to the next step.

Nebraska is not in the process , of hiring a pastor with semi truthful sermons hoping your pristine cherry wood will inspire his performance beyond what the Holy Spirit has given him. They're in the business, yes business, of hiring a coach to win football games.

These young ADULTS are being paid to play football now. This isn't your daddy's Huskers unfortunately and this isn't the fairytale game it used to be. Decisions were made to move conferences which, as I understand it, was based on prideful threats of B12 member schools to desert for other conferences relegating Nebraska to national obscurity and financial derth.

Nebraska should go balls to wall trying to sell itself to the coach with the highest chance to alleviate the threat of obscurity. The threat of financial desolation is, for now, abated.

CFB will not stop evolving into a more professional activity from what I can tell. And one that affects the economic livelihood of Lincoln and the whole of Nebraska. They should do what needs to position themselves for that next step.

Hire a winner is my not so expert humble opinion.

Can’t imagine he wants to play 2nd fiddle in Alabama. He has a much better chance in the B1G West — one of the most **** divs in P5.

Why did you bring race into this? Racists are not welcome here.

Is that a point in his favor, or against him? I'm on the fence......
I just laugh at some of this. People get worked up about these things. Having worked and been around the program in the late 80s/early 90s, we did plenty of **** that got covered up. Some coaches make sure girls are available, other coaches make sure nice cushman or car dealership jobs are around. 🤣🤣🤣

Was only joking…i am white myself. But he’s a crotchety old irish dude like a lot of my friends dads were growing up In Massachusetts. Guess that kind of observation is no longer politically palatable.
