Both talk a great game, neither can game plan worth a ****.

1st and goal on the 4 and 3 consecutive pass plays...

Does nothing to slow down the pass rush or protect the weakness of his players

ZERO creativity

I am not a fan.

Yeah. Poor coaching sealed the deal in that game. You are 100 percent correct.

2 of the 3 passes were to open receivers. Just bad throws. If he makes a better throw to either of them would you still start this thread?

This team is not capable of the consistency needed to execute long drives. We needed points. MW and Palmer got us 37. Should be enough. Why does everyone blame the offense when the defense is the clearly the reason for the L? I don’t love whips play calling but we couldn’t run to save our lives last night. Purdue tried to take it away. They did. There’s no scheme that can make up for an offensive line that can’t run or pass block consistently.

This O line is the worst I’ve ever seen at Nebraska. I can’t be mad at Coach Whipple here.

In 17 minutes and 18 seconds of time on the field, Nebraska put up 476 yards and 37 points.

DEFENSE by far was the problem last night. This team is so void of talent on that side it is sickening.

Yes, there were miscues on offense, and as little time they had on the field, they still could have won it despite the horrible D.

37 points. That should win any game, especially against a mid to lower tier P5 school.

Yes. MW is a horrible play caller. SF took over the reigns more than once in the first 3 games for a reason. Whip does nothing to help the weaknesses of the offense. His only redeeming grace in this game was #3

Whipple contradicts himself. When you pass three times from the four, you are telling the world that you have zero confidence your offensive line can get it done.

But when you insist on only using five in pass blocking when you know that you have guys who cannot pass block, that's the one I cannot figure out. Why does he care so much about getting five guys out in routes? I'm not sure that we should ever go three wide, let alone four wide.

MJ did say pregame that they expected Purdue to play man and that his guys were going to have to beat their guys. And he was right. I'm sure Purdue felt that they could get to Thompson before Palmer had time to get open deep.

I just wish we could keep a 6th man in to block or at least use TEs to chip on the outside pass rush.

The defense was getting torched... You NEED to burn some clock. There are times the offense needs to help the defense. Crucial blunder. But hey, it was a one score loss.
We have to have an O-line capable of long sustained drives. We just don’t have that.

I’m trying to think what it is that they do best and am having a hard time.

Good thing SF wasn’t here to take over the reigns. We would have lost to Indiana and Rutgers also.

So glad SF is gone. He talked a good game at the beginning but mismanaged the program so badly that it set the program back 4 years…possibly even longer.

Yes, in this situation of the game you are down by 7, and a lot of game left to play. Your defense is struggling to stop Purdue. You can CHOOSE to run the ball to burn some clock and rest your defense or CHOOSE to call 3 pass plays and burn very little time because of incompletions. I would have liked to see a run called on 3rd down and see if a 4th and goal at the 1 would have been an option. MW handcuffed the team on this series of 1st and goal.

In a series, in the first half, you used an opportunity to do just this. The series resulted in a TD and built confidence for the line and for the backs. You have the exact situation here, except for a defense that is getting thrashed and needs rest...

For me, it doesn't matter that the receiver was open, a ground attack could have resulted in the same result except 2 or more minutes could have been removed from the game and giving the defense some rest. The big picture is getting lost on MW.

You can choose to score TDs. Dude was open in the back of the endzone. Wide fvcking open.

Whipple redzone offense scores points. You might not like how, but it works.

We see it on opposite sides. His Red Zone offense works, but there are times you need to look out for the entire team...

By scoring tds. By calling plays best suited to get that done. He's redzone offense gets points on the board 88% of the time.

MW offense scored 37 points in less than 18:00 minutes of possession of the ball. These are Alabama like numbers with Bryce Young.
Had we stopped them on third and eleven with 2:37 left, I bet we score again. Whipple is a victim of our OL's problems and has done a very good job compensating for them.

2 rushes into a stone wall have the same result... except 2 minutes have been used to rest your defense.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If he runs it 2 times and misses the pass on the third try, people call that settling as well. Since Purdue was hellbent on stopping the run, the only suitable answer here is to score a TD by any means necessary. That didn’t happen. Either way, MW is gonna get raked, whether he ran or passed and ended with a field goal.

IMO Whipple is the best OC we’ve had since Tom called the plays. I’m kind of a run the damned ball guy but you can not argue with Whipple’s competence.

Agreed.

The losses are still due to Frost.

Sometimes these coaches can overcome the Frost wreckage and win. But they are doing it despite the massive bomb-crater-sized hole that they were put in by Frost.

I thought whip said the o line had their best week of practice. I’d hate to see it after a bad week of practice.

The running game was ineffective. That's why we didn't run against Purdue.
