The name Campbell shouldn't escape the lips of any Cornhuskers fan or faculty. He is below Mickey regardless of MJs record this year.

We should all rather have hope in an untested than settle for .600.

Matt Rhule would be better than either Matt Campbell or Mickey Joseph.

Does anyone know if he even wants to immediately go coach a college team? Rhule may go say things on ESPN for a couple seasons.
I’ve heard some interesting takes on this from talking heads. On one hand he’s getting 8M/year to do nothing for 5? More years. On the other hand he has coaching buddies that he would like to be working with. Someone made the point that guys that make it to his level normally want to keep coaching. It’s what they’ve known their whole life and is where they draw their self esteem from. High perfirmers aren’t usually happy unless they feel like their earning their money

one thing is for sure. He never has to work another day in his life if he doesn’t want. One thing we don’t know is if there’s a clause in his contract requiring him to seek another coaching job.

I wouldn't cry if we got Rhule. But I really like Mickey so far more so than Aranda or Campbell.

I dream of Urbs or Freeze. Fickell has a good record too though at Cincy, haven't considered him before, don't know why.

Really would like to see a Bob Devaney hire in that he'd be a head coach in the 70s win pct currently in a lesser conference if Mickey doesn't get the job.

My feelings on the coach situation change as the weeks go by and I pay more attention to the guys the masses are considering. Campbell has really faded for me not that I was ever high on him. I think he’s a 7-8 win ceiling guy in the BIG. Leipold and Kleiman probably too. Rhule looks better to me after studying what he did at Baylor. Yeah he had some close wins that last year but coaching is a big factor between winning and losing close games.

im still rooting for Mickey and will be happy for him if he gets the gig, but he’s got some high hurdles to clear over the next month and a half.
Watch this hire end up being Bill Busch or somebody else not even on the radar.

Honestly I think SF was the only coach you could about pen in as coach before the hire. Maybe Bo Pelini to a lesser extent.

Aranda and Leopold defenses have been shredded so far this week. And Campbell’s team has a decent defense but a horrible offense. They might all finish with losing records.

If NU doesn't hire Mickey it will just prove their incompetence.
lol nothing would prove their incompetence more than if they just promoted the interim guy. Nebraska would officially not be big time if the best we can do is the interim coach on a bad team.

If Mickey gets us to a bowl game for the first time in 5 years, we would be justly widely ridiculed for not rewarding a guy for turning around the dumpster fire he inherited

Mickey's a good dude, but I think there's probably at least a 75% chance he loses all 6 of the remaining games. If that happens, I don't know how you promote a guy who loses 6 in a row.

Depends how the season ends. We don't want him if he finishes with a losing record
LOL, like so many others on here, very short sighted thinking. Look what he was given to work with and he's making the most of it. The team is fighting and improving but is a long ways from a great team. I value continuous improvement over the W/L record.

Maybe because he inherited an absolute dumpster fire and showed progress in turning it around? Or do you expect miracles to be performed like instead of putting the dumpster fire out and moving it forward make it fly? LOL who is going to do that?

He didn't inherit a dumpster fire. He inherited a middling Big ten team with a lack of identity. He's trying to turn this ship around mid-season which is a big challenge. Regardless of how the year goes with wins and losses, I don't think there will be a large enough sample size to conclude that he is our best option.

I think he might win one or two more games and the rest could get ugly.

Are you really suggesting that MJ should be hired as HC if he loses 6 in a row?
