Is he gettable? 4-1 and ranked. Just beat a ranked FSU team. Has a former Husker as his O line coach. Has a 5M/year contract through 2026 just signed in February I think.

No thanks. You lose more of the fan base with a hire like this.
Why? The guy has built a solid program at a perennial 6 win program. Either Zatecka or Stai called him a dark horse candidate a couple of weeks ago. IMO given the “gettable” factor it’s Mickey’s job to lose unless we can get Rhule. I just don’t see us paying 10-20 million to buy out a contract for the most often discussed guys. I can’t find a buyout number for Doeren.

It would be one of the costlier hires they could make, but they could get him. I read that he's from the Kansas City area and he was the guy who coached Northern Illinois to the Orange Bowl. That feat alone should make him a worthy hire. What he's done at NC State just builds on that resume. Another plus is that he brings in very good recruiting classes. The team rankings aren't high but he's had kids getting drafted and they win games. And personally, I believe that there's little difference between the 20th and 40th ranked classes anyway-- find the best talent to develop, kids that want to work.

I can’t find what his buyout is. Some of these contracts are favorable to the coaches depending on how hard he bargained. It’s usually the full cash value of the remaining contract.

Could do a lot worse. As bad as the B1G west is, I think the ACC is worse lol. And the B1G and SEC have a good future, ACC is unkown.

I’d take Doeren or Clawson. There is no perfect hire, as Urban ain’t coming here ever… but those two guys have turned programs around.
Not sure what the ceilings would be but we would win a lot more than we did with ginger Jesus

Solid coach. Would be a good hire. Problem is everyone wants the home run Urban hire but ain’t happening. Doeren checks a lot of boxes.

I’d been waiting on his name to pop up. Has done a solid job at NC State and is a Midwest guy. Not a wow hire, but obviously a good coach.

He's gotten better every year within the ACC. He's an example of a school being patient, being rewarded, as NC State has never really had sustained winning. (Bad to mediocre program). 4 if his last 5 yrs are very good conference records (I know ACC isn't SEC but it's power 5 football).

Seen his name come up for Wisconsin as he was their DC at one time under Burnt Enema. Would he come here for $8M a year and a 7 year contract? We could do much worse.

NC State was primed for a big season but their QB just went down so it will possibly hurt his resume this year. They have always seemed to have a few stud guys in the trenches (both sides) under his watch. I have no idea about his recruiting prowess, but player development seems good as I view NC State as a developmental program.

I live in the Raleigh area, and really until this year, the fans are not happy with him. The ACC is terrible and he always loses a bunch of games he shouldn't. Solid program is in the eye of the beholder, but he's been there for awhile now and has never really got over the hump.

This post is embarrassing

the ACC has at least 3 first round QBs playing right now

that’s as many as the B1G has produced in 10 years

it’s the second or third best conference in the country right now, depending on where you want to rank the big 12

NC St are tough nosed and fun as hell to watch

He's basically a nicer Bo Pelini. I think he's only beaten one Top 10 team in 10 years at NC State. He'll beat most of the patsies on the schedule, but lose to most teams with a pulse.

I think Dave Doeren is another just OK coach. He is 69-50 at NC State and has won half the lesser bowl games his team has played in. Tim Beck is his OC. Beck tenure did not go well with the Huskers. (Off subject but I have been to NC State’s stadium for a U2 concert. Finally someone designed men’s restrooms that are huge. I’ve been in too many stadium restrooms that are more crowded than a NY subway.). FSU gave that game away. Stupid play. FSU had a winning FG in their pocket with a minute to go. For some reason Mike Norvell wanted a TD and kept calling pass plays. The Pack intercepted a bad pass. Game over.
