Why not Deion Sanders?

What he has done coaching is impressive.

The people I would be most interested in (Meyer, Aranda, Fickell) don’t seem possible. I haven’t heard buzz about anyone realistic that makes me more more excited than just giving Joseph an opportunity.

I would love to have coach Prime. I doubt Trev would ever take that risk, but it would be fun. Deion outside of Jordan was my favorite athlete as a kid. Just loved the swag and his shoes were fantastic.

He got challenged to an ego brawl this weekend. I don’t think he’s going anywhere until he wins that.
If you watched the postgame pressers you'd know he already won that brawl. Eddie Robinson Jr. sounds like a butthurt whiner, and Prime sounds like someone used to dealing with butthurt whiners.

He can coach and recruit. He would bring instant name recognition and buzz to the program too.

Yeah, I don't disagree. I think the head dude just needs to be a recruiting SOB, Motivator and organized or has someone that does that for him. From there, just make sure we have top of the line coaches and recruiters at every level and we'll be alright. Have to be able to identify the talent and get it in here.

He also isn’t familiar with the Midwest and would be higher risk..
Which could help us if he can draw talent out of the southern recruiting grounds he is familiar with.

My sense is that we will get a boring but “safe” hire like Rhule, Campbell, or O’Brien. I feel unenthusiastic about that group.

You still have to recruit well in this area.. You have a pipe dream if you think Deon is just going to raid the south and make the Huskers immediate power..

Rhule is name in more in line with Aranda, Leipold and Fickell ..Campbell and O’Brien please no..

I don’t see Prime getting along with the NU fan base. He’ll be a southern coach.

He is in that 3rd tier of choices. Not a proven winner (Urban et al), not a proven P5 program builder (Rhule, Leipold, etc), Guys with success at lower levels, OC/DCs (Mickey, Deion, Chadwell et al)

Hold out on Leipold being a.program builder until the season is over.

They played a decent team and lost.

Would be pretty surprising if he leaves the southeast geographically.
I don’t disagree, but I personally would like us to reach out. Whoever we hire is going to need to be a top notch recruiter beyond coaching. Furthermore, I don’t see him as being someone who would be intimidated by high expectations.

I wish we could set our sites higher than the Matt Campbells of the world.

I'd be disappointed with any of those three. I'd rather give Mickey a shot unless it's a homerun, sure-thing hire like Meyer.

I agree. I want the best we can get, obviously. I have a sense that Joseph could be a gem, and none of the other realistic names being tossed around really excite me that much.

What makes you think he couldn’t recruit the midwest? Everyone knows who he is. Sh*t, what parent wouldn’t want to meet the guy? Who wouldn’t want to play for him? Before he was a successful coach he was a two sport legend.

But by all means, let’s get another boring coach no one cares about. If I had to guess, it will be O’Brien or Campbell.

He’s a freaking mess that would never work at NU. He needs to be in an NFL market area school

Still an L at home. Should still win that game.

Let's see the rest of the season.

Defense looked porous.
beating an undefeated, top 15 team with your backup QB is a lot to expect when Rhule can't even beat a ranked team with his starter

Give him 10 million a year (you get at least that much value back with the Geico commercials he does with GOAT Saban). He’d get some dudes. Primetime of the Midwest. The pearl clutchers in the fanbase wouldn’t like it, which would make it all that much better.

You have to be authentic. I can’t see prime, literally a life time coastal resident outside of a few years in Dallas, being excited about Lincoln Nebraska. He knows jack and **** about the people and culture here.

id be thrilled to see prime here but it’s not going to happen.

I don't want Rhule either.

Jackson, MS seems to be doing okay.
He’s fine there. His act would never fly in Lincoln. There was a caller on 1620 losing his mind that we don’t have any black coaches being discussed by the media. Was that you? He was a black Husker fan living in Oklahoma supposedly. Claimed Mickey isn’t a “real” candidate. Apparently doesn’t think Aranda is black enough.

No!

I live in Minnesota and strongly believe people should be hired based on their merits alone. I find favoritism and discrimination based on race despicable no matter who is doing it.

By the way, Dave Aranda is of Mexican American heritage, I believe.

Aranda, Sanders, Fickell, and Meyer are the exciting coaches out there for me. I have a feeling Joseph could be great, but I want to see more.
