Kevin Warren apparently had a sit down meeting with Trev when he got hired and told him he needed to muzzle Frost and his anti big ten agenda. Kevin Warren despised Frost during the Covid season and made no secret about it in private circles. Trev had to make this change to keep our big ten status intact. I guess when USC and UCLA were in discussions Warren brought up the potential to choose Stanford and kick Nebraska out if Nebraska didn’t clean up their act.
Funny rumor that I give 0% possibility to being true.

You would have to be actually retarded to believe any of this "rumor" that was totally fabricated.

Conference presidents have zero say in what any program does, and Nebraska would sue the Big Ten into the stone age if it tried to "kick out" the program over one coach's perceived anti-conference bias. And what bias, by the way? I don't remember a single negative comment Frost ever made about the Big Ten.

Scott Frost was fired because he couldn't coach his way out of wet paper sack. We are the worst team in the country right now.

You should try reading comprehension.

This post is one of the stupidest I have seen.

The commissioner and school presidents absolutely can decide to offer membership, as well as revoke it.

You don't remember all the insubordinate comments from Frost on how they were going to play, going so far as to try to schedule games outside the league, during the covid year? They settled on the more nicely worded "We want to play" mantra, but a whole lot of vile stuff was thrown Kevin's way.

All the other B1G schools, got in line, and only Ohio State made some noise, which was quickly quieted.

Nobody says Scott was fired because of Kevin Warren. This claim is made NOWHERE in this thread.

Trev absolutely had to put out fires and muzzle Scott when he got here last year.

May not be as far-fetched as some think. Nebraska was invited to the B1G for one reason and one reason only: football. And since the school has joined the conference, it hasn't done anything but get progressively worse in that sport. First with Mike Riley, then Scott Frost. (They were decent with Pelini despite the blowout losses. They were still going to bowl games and winning nine games.)

Being kicked out of the AAU, even understanding why that happened, is still a bad look. Then on top of all that, you add in the drama with COVID and, well, yikes.

I'm not saying the OP is true. I'm just saying there may very well have been some grumblings.

Ohio State was grumbling, too, about not playing during COVID. But they can grumble. They're OSU and they win a lot of games.
I think NU's buy out from the big, is a billion

Ok. Did he call Trev before or after the calls he made to MSU, tOSU and Michigan regarding their sexual abuse scandals involving select groups of student athletes? B1G 10 Proud!

And OSU contemplated going Independent. Nebraska would have been laughing back to the Big 12 with likely a billion dollars.

I don't know about the OSU independent thing, or if you were being sarcastic.

Schools have been kicked out of conferences before. It usually just takes a vote of the School Presidents. It would be similar to how we got kicked out of the AAU.

I don't know how the money issue would be handled. Supposedly we are a part owner in the league, so we would have to be paid what that share was worth as well as unwind the pledge of media rights.

Kevin Warren may not have been able to kick Nebraska out the current Big Ten. But what he did tell Trev was his plans to start a new Power Big Ten Conference and Nebraska would not be invited unless it fell in line. Trev has essentially confirmed that. Nebraska is a full member but there are ways to work around bringing Nebraska along into one of the two super conferences.
We had parents suing the big ten two years ago because they wanted their kids to play football. Then two months later those kids opted to not play football. Who was the leader of that fiasco? Scooter Frost.

I think Trev and KW talked about putting on a united front in public with the Big Ten. Trev had a conversation about that with Scott I am sure. I just don't think KW was leveraging kicking NU out of the conference if Trev didn't fire Frost.

A conference official asking someone (not demanding, ASKING) to speak with a unified voice to protect the reputation of the conference is one thing.

A rumor that a conference official was party to the unjustified firing of a totally inept piece of crap coach after the start of their 5th disastrous season is an example of the meth epidemic in this country. Get off of drugs and get help immediately if you believe this nonsense.

Agree.. KW didn't have the authority to fire Frost, nor did anyone say he did. He wanted the insubordination to stop.

Having that said, as a commissioner, he could organize a vote on removing Nebraska from the conference. I am trying to find the bylaws of the B1G, but schools have been removed from conferences before.

In the SEC I believe it is a 2/3rds vote by the University Presidents. Can KW singlehandedly do it? No, but you start talking to people, and just like politicians, you make some deals behind the scenes and call a vote.

I'm still curious what prompted the removal from AAU. We know schools in the conference voted against us on this. Why, I don't know.

I did a quick look at it seems the other schools that have been kicked out of conferences before include:
Temple from the Big East
Marshall from the MAC
VT from the Metro conference (spearheaded by Louisville)

I love how wanting to play football for something that didn't effect young people, and all the evidence shows it to be true, is so much worse than all the scandals at the other schools. Pedophiles, sexual assault, bad doctors, etc don't get much attention but wanting to play football is the biggest sin.

don't tell me you interpreted this as KW having input on firing Frost, because the original poster didn't say that.

The rub between Frost and KW is real, and if you have been paying attention, you would have seen the evidence of this over the past 2 years.

What part of the original post do you take issue with???

Oh I don't think Warren had any impact on Frost's firing..

But I am sure some things were said, and then you had Trev talking up the B1G and how we need to compete and Frost too started saying he can't comment on the league or how he would say this or that is good for the league, like when he recently got asked about the new expansion.

So it got swept under the rug, but the tension was never actually fixed.

I think Trev got it mostly calmed down, but then this summer was like another rub with how Scott handled those things at media days.

I agree with you on KW being thin skinned. He's absolutely capable of saying nice things about someone he dislikes, and making it seem believable, and that is why he's a good administrator. Trev can play that game too. Never forget that those kind of guys realize that you have to keep appearances to make things run smooth, but behind the scenes, all kinds of crosscurrents can be going on.

This sounds far fetched to me.

We did have some schools in the conference trying to examine the bylaws to see if KW overstepped his authority in being able to cancel the football season.

Eventually we had a shortened season, so it sort of got worked out in that regard.

I'm the other way on this..

I'm blown away by all the guys on this board that can't see this, or haven't been paying attention to this over the past 2 years. It's been a festering mess.

I would have to go back to find clips, videos, & quotes and place them in a timeline for you guys I guess.

I don't have the time to do that, but I'm really surprised at some of you. I get the impression a lot of you mis read what the OP wrote.

We actually had a chance to get out of this league back then.. I talked about it on this site ad nauseum, but we didn't take it because the Chancellor and President of course want the grant money.. but leaving this conference was a big discussion here at the time.

Everything that guy posted is legit.

As a physician-scientist at a decent university, being on the AAU is not a big deal as everyone thinks. Doesn’t get you more NIH grants that is the benchmark for universities. It’s a title that I have yet to hear from anyone in research in the last 10 years. I may be wrong, and I will admit so if informed otherwise. It’s just that it doesn’t mean anything to me.
The one thing I hear is that the AAU can set certain standards and policies for the academic world in general but has no effect on whether I’m going to get a $1.5 million grant from the federal government. Bu the way, the institution gets up to 70% or so on top of that grant money. Not dictated by the AAU. I’d really like to know if anyone has an idea what the AAU really does?

So what you're kind of saying is, the other schools in the conference that voted us out, didn't do it out of competition for more grant monies, since membership has no bearing on the grants received?

Pardon my comment, but it’s a circle jerk or something. I really would like to find out more about this. I read their mission, and I see no benefit of being very in it other than you are in the “cool clique”. I apply for federal grants, and there isn’t a spot to click to say my university is AAU. I’m sure it’s the sam e for other avenues of research grants. Pretty stupid if you ask me. Their website is telling when they brag about getting a grant to support them. Yes it’s probably an old fraternity, but ****, my house was built for the bicentennial in Philly, and I’m not making a request for historical preservation like the AAU.

You don't remember Trev and Scott having to butter up the Big Ten after Trev was hired last year?

That was the very first order of business after Trev got hired.

It was obvious that Trev had a big talking to Scott about all that insubordination that was going on in the covid year.

Even during Big Ten Media Days this summer, there was still tension.. although Warren was able to give nice comments about Scott Frost and say nice things, and then Scott gets up to the stage and doesn't say any kind word back, in fact doesn't even make an opening statement.

It would not surprise me in the least if there were indeed discussions on replacing Nebraska and using academics as the route to do it.

If you have never mingled in high academic circles, I can tell you first hand, it is a very tight club with some of the most pompous, arrogant, and brilliant people who have egos with God complexes.

Nebraska is still on thin ice with the league in my opinion.
There may be some truth to it, but not much. Conferences don’t just kick teams out, why would Warren, just let Frost continue to embarrass the Institution he represents.
