I have heard we have had more talent than other teams we have lost too. Well, the record shows how talented you are. How smart you are. We just don't make plays and don't tackle very well. Our line on both looks confused. Mentally, they are not very tough. Mickey has his work cut out for him and we will be lucky to get to six wins. Our front four many run is completely useless you might as well drop someone into coverage since we normally don't get there.

Coaching matters in college football. NFL is all about talent and budgets, and a bit of luck.

One of our biggest problems is depth at some positions. When you have a true freshman out of HS starting at linebacker and he isn't a five star stud then that's a depth problem.

Football with pads is an unnatural sport. At times, you're expected to run close to 20 mph and hit someone who may be running at a similar speed. Most kids coming from HS are not prepared for that, regardless of star rating. Most recruits don't have the mental capabilities to be prepared for that and the physical toll it takes on the body by themselves. That's why there is coaching. It takes coaching to instill a mentality that you're hurting the other team more than you're hurting yourselves. When you play with that type of mentality, you play with speed and aggression and sacrifice your body for the team. Only when you have this mentality will you start to beat up on teams on a regular basis. Frost never even came close to instilling this type of mentality. But coaches like Osborne and Saban do this better than anyone, and it's why they have had so much success compared to other programs.

To be fair...Saban also needs the top ranked recruiting classes to win big. And and he doesn't schedule road games.

There's enough talent for a competent coach to have a fine season. Most teams in the west would trade rosters. Tough for a new coach to wave a magic wand and make this defense competent in season though.

Many are not football savvy enough and don’t work hard enough. Terrible combination!

No, it matters there too. Pair great coaching with a great front office with great talent and you rise to the top.

All levels matter for a successful program at any level. Yes, you have to have good coaching. Lets call that the technical aspects of the job. But you also need good support for that structure and most importantly, you have to have excellent leadership at all levels. You also have to understand that success at one level doesn’t always translate to success at the next level (say player to assistant coach to HC).

From Frost’s first pressers to how he handled that first off season to how the team executed, you could see he wasn’t a very good leader. Nothing got better, only worse.
