Completely agree. The excuses that Frost needed more than a couple years to show progress from what Riley left him were weak excuses for his early lack of results.

Just 1 thing...I will NEVER root for any team to improve by buying & bribing.

I respect any team that improves due to hard work, team spirit, smart coaching...all the good things that college sports is supposed to be. Even spending big on facilities. But I hope buying & bribing BACKFIRES.

I really hope you are right but I dont believe that anymore. Frost was our shot at coming back and he never even had a winning season. It will bn take a very special coach at this point to bring us back to relevance

Relevance is 8 to 10 wins a season and winning bowl games. Its Not that hard if you play fundamental smart football. We play in the Big 10 West FFS.

not really true in my opinion.. it can be an easy turn around. Teams are a reflection of their head coach.

We have competent athletes and some coaches. With good leadership, this is a fairly easy fix.

It's all for nothing if it's true that ADTA has intentions to hire Campbell.

To salvage anything of this season Chinander needs to be fired by Monday this guy had one halfway decent season otherwise he has been a complete disaster

He def had a bad game, but generally he has been decent, running the scheme that Frost wanted him to run. If MJ demands he run a different scheme, I believe he would do it.

You don't like Campbell?
Absolutely not. I'm tired of these small time or learn on the job hires - Bo, Riley, SF. NU needs to put the big boy pants on and hire a coach that has been around the block before. Campbell is another wasted contract.

sadly, I think our options are limited to up and coming guys, or guys just past their prime..

the upside with a younger guy, is you could have continued success longer, at least that is the common thinking, but those guys can take off for greener pastures as well..

I'm totally ok reaching for an Urban Meyer or other past prime guy if it's a home run.. otherwise, our best shot is the younger guy with something to prove.

Secretly, I'm hoping MJ makes the decision easy for Trev.

Our first clue next Saturday may be the depth of our DB's and Safeties.

I'm guessing whatever type of secondary alignment gave Mickey's good receivers (at both LSU and JU) the most trouble is what Mickey will force Chin to play.

You just know Mickey is not gonna make his HC debut with the status quo on defense. Now if its any more effective is beside the point.

But NU can't have those huge gaps in the DL and expect to stop anyone, especially a team that can throw the ball well.

This is why I'm hoping MJ puts his stamp on things immediately.

Usually, the interim coach only gets a game or two to audition for his next job.

In this case, he has a unique opportunity to show Husker Nation what he can do.

Whatever the reason his defense is bad it's still bad. First 642 yards yesterday is cause enough to fire. I however think back to all the game winning drives his defense gave up since 2018, all the bv third and longs converted on them. There has been a killer instinct lacking from the beginning

I'm kind of hoping MIckey will just leave Whipple and the other O guys alone to do their thing. Despite the less than average OL, NU can probably move the ball against most teams.

Defensively is where changes stand to make the immediate improvement, or even further implosion....

There won't be any NU fans next week not holding their breath when NU is on defense.

Until the track meet starts, I'm gonna focus on line spacing on defense, depth of the secondary, and Chins/Mickey's willingness to try to apply some pressure to the QB.

I haven't seen Gabriel since he was at UCF, but that dude can get rid of the ball real fast, so NU's tackling best improve in a hurry.

Side note: I really would like to see Mickey turn our return people loose and see if Trey or someone can break something long. This fair catch stuff is a sell out and doesn't ever offer a challenge for the opponent's punting team to make a mistake.

He absolutely does not have to start doing everyone else's job. Sorry if what I said comes off like that, but isn't what I meant.

All MJ has to do, is get everyone together, and set the tone for things. He can change the schemes, tell his coordinators what he wants to do with the game prep, or any other things he wants to implement.

It still has to work top down, and I think he would coach it this way.

It comes down to leadership. Knowing what to change, knowing what not to change. Knowing who to put in what position, and who to give different responsibilities to.

It's setting tone and tempo.. then tweaking things and being consistent in approach. Rewarding things you want to see again, and punishing things you don't want to see.

And recruit your *** off.

I don't believe Campbell is the answer and quite honestly I have no idea who is unless your name is Saban or Meyer and Saban is never going happen. Campbell would be a better choice than many but I just don't see him bringing the program back.

I would seriously make a run at Lance Leipold or Luke Fickell or Sam Pittman of Arkansas. I'm very intrigued with Pittman he was the OL coach for Tennessee when they started to turn things around and then worked as the OL coach at Arkansas and they turned the corner. Finally he coaches the Georgia OL and then is hired to Arkansas as HC. Either one of these fine coaches would be a great hire for Nebraska.

Let's be very honest about this, hiring the right coach means everything for Nebraska, your programs live or die with who you hire. I think it's a sad day for the rest of the BIG football programs they so wanted frost to stay put.

Now let's see if Alberts and those secret donor's know what they're doing as far as hiring goes.

He’s worse than Scott. I’ve never seen anything with this guy that impressed me. How does this guy still have a job?

Some new insights.. Sorry, it's morning where I am and playing a bit of catchup here.. Interesting comments by Trev about him encouraging MJ to be the HC and not meddling in his job and then said something to the effect that I think there will be some structural changes etc..

So this means MJ and Trev have talked about this, in some length and detail. I assume, before the last 24 hours.

In my opinion, the words from Trev tell me that he is indeed giving MJ a real shot here and has publicly encouraged him to be the head coach. From those statements from Trev on the video I saw, I believe this is his actual preferred outcome and the two seem to agree on whatever insights MJ provided as to what would change.

No means a slam dunk that MJ will get the job long term, but he's being given an opportunity, and the permission to go make it happen how he sees fit.

Really happy for Coach and hope he gets the support of everyone on the staff, players, and fans.

Completely agree. I’ve watched Campbell’s teams and they never seem organized. I don’t get the hype. I’m glad he finally got a W over Iowa. I would actually be disappointed with that hire.

Gabriel has been off to a good start. Issue yesterday was the OL and bad play calling on the running game that got fixed in the second half. Accurate passer; not a good runner like C Williams but decent. Best part for OU fans is the defense. Much faster than we saw under Riley. Talent about the same but better coached. Looking forward to the game. Someday will get to Lincoln.

Luring away a coach from another P5 program isn't a wasted contract. Campbell has the record for 5 consecutive bowl games at ISU, second is 3 and Johnny Majors and Earle Bruce coached there. He isn't on the top of my list but I wouldn't be mad since we need to develop
