Nebraska was absolutely ABUSED up front on both sides of the ball. Defense was 3-4 yards off the line of scrimmage in the late 3rd and all of the 4th quarter. Nothing will change until we get better up front. We’ve known it for atleast 3 years and still the same stuff.

This. You will know this internally is a concern when it’s not addressed either immediately after the game or during game prep discussions for week 1. Don’t think there are any 5 star freshman waiting their turn standing on the sideline.

No mystery how to beat Nebraska, run the damn ball right down their throats. Nothing will change till we can run the ball and stop the run.

Our front 7 getting worked was certainly the most disappointing part of the game.
I guess I understand why they were beating the transfer portal bushes for linemen now. Our D tackles were very disappointing. Nash is a hole plugger but he's probably not quick enough.

We obviously have one of the weakest OLs in the B1G. And surprise, we have one of the weakest DLs in the B1G. When is it going to be addressed? The work being done isn't enough. How can we ever catch up to the rest of the B1G?

I never saw Robinson do anything. Wynn made a couple plays. Would figure Drew would be in the mix soon.
In the 2nd half Ty Robinson looked absolutely terrible. I had to go back and watch him specifically it was so bad. In the 1st half he was fairly quick, but omg the 2nd he was done. Got absolutely 0 push.

Games are won in the trenches. NU has not won those battles in years. Need better DL and OL's.

Good question.

Not sure how long it lasted, but eventually they went to Lutovsky at one guard spot. For several plays in a row in the second quarter, we were getting destroyed inside. I thought the OT play was generally good, pass blocking wise. Teddy missed a blitzer, which was a big play, but otherwise, it was much improved.

I think there are 3 big things wrong with the D-Line

1) Dawson is the worst coach on the team. remind you he was in charge of special teams last year. Whatever that guy touches just turns to ****.

2) The D-Line got worked today because our O-Line sucks. The D isn’t use to going against competition.

3) secondary is weak and a weak secondary means you got to drop 7. If you drop 7, you aren’t really giving the O-line a lot to think about other than what’s in front of them.

I think Dawson is a downgrade from Tuioti on the DL. Little talked about move in the offseason that I don't think favored the Huskers.

I still maintain we're never going to be great again trying to run a finesse spread offense. People have been saying for the last 20 years that we need to modernize our offense....while teams like Wisconsin and Iowa continue to beat us year after year after year.

Sounds like a recruiting issue. You need top drawer coaches so you can recruit and develop top shelf athletes. Otherwise 6-6 is gonna be a good year.

Northwestern's O line dominated us. Period. The only positive I saw from the D line was Nash being able to clog things up and sometimes get some pressure up the middle. The down side was that man he looked slow. Top to bottom, I was very disappointed in how our defense played. Maybe by year's end we'll find out that Helinski is that good but damn.... That RB embarrassed us too.

Mike Dawson? The dude was already "fired" by the program once. The gift that keeps on giving. Ron Brown was fired by the university 3 times now. Give him the DL job.

Dawson was never fired by NU. He went back to the NFL in part to get vested in the NFL pension plan. You Iowegians are special.

I think we blitzed once all game.
But, like last year, NU will get 5 sacks against N. Dak and Ga. Southern and all will be well in the world. NU will pack 50% of their annual sacks in those 2 games. Last year it was Fordham and Buffalo. Same ole song.

The offense would have been okay IF our defense could have stopped Northwestern's offense. They dominated us in the trenches. It wasn't the style of offense that lost that game.

We might struggle to run the ball against North Dakota too. That one isn't the gimmee some think.

And to think, we thought at least the D will be solid and we can wait for the offense to mesh.

North Dakota was a lot better than people think. It's dangerous for NU or it's fans to just take this one for granted. I remember South Alabama played NU's *** off, and they were a lousy team.

Our only hope for a winning season is that our defense with all of the new starters makes huge strides from this first embarrassment.
With the defense being pushed around, and the lack of QB pressure, the only way is just blitz the piss out of teams and hope you can run into some good plays.

Of course, NW had wide open receivers a lot of the time and blitzing is a real dangerous game, especially considering our tackling.

Not pretty when Henrichs, Luke, Kolavarec spent their time running up the backs of our own DLmen.

Who the hell taught these kids how to blitz? Isn't the object to find and run through a hole somewhere? Why the hell run into a pack of your own Dlinemen just because your assignment is to go to that spot?

Has Chin decided it's against the rules to blitz a corner or something?

This setting back and getting your *** handed to you has Wiscy, MI, Iowa licking their chops.
