I wouldn't go that far, I didn't do a deep personell dive there for Purdue. As far as I can tell, they have as many question marks as Nebraska, maybe more.... I guess we'll find out for both. I placed them 2nd on the strength of their passing game, especially the experience there, and expected improvements on defense.

Its always a guess. Every team feels good about the upgrades they have made during the offseason. I'm sure coach Frost feels good about the upgrades and changes made along the OL and DL. Purdue has similar optimism. We'll see if they are right.
DL should he able to play 3 deep for Purdue. Pass rush needs someone to step up. But run D is good. Dline is littered with 4 star guys. Oline probably still be bad, but Brohm will work with it.

With my Iowa bias I would like to favor the Hawks to win the West, A lot of returning starters and as has been noted Iowa should be pretty salty on defense, The problem is you can’t count on Petras stepping up his game, Iowa has also been very fortunate in having very good field goal kickers the past several years, This year is yet to be determined.
Until proven otherwise really hard to pick against the Badgers although Mertz has his own question marks.
I’ll just say for Ioway fans, don’t count on as much luck as you had last year getting as many turnovers which helped you having a 10-4 record..

Petras is easily one of the worst QB in the conference..

Iowa was #4 in the country in forcing turnovers,#7 the year before,#37 and #11 the years before, So I’m not so sure it’s just luck.

Well last year scoring on the turnovers helped winning some of those games not just getting a turnovers..

Last year’s scoring average was 23.4 10th in the conference take away the scoring TD’s by your defense what‘s the average? Ioway would have lost more than 4 games and let’s keep in mind the offense was 13th in the Big 10 on offense..

I believe Iowa scored 4 defensive TD’s last year. And while you focus on Iowa being lucky to win 10 games, I just think that if Iowa’s offense had a pulse they could have done better, Bottom line woulda,Coulda, Shoulda, The record is what it is.

Don’t forget special teams TD’s too.. If we weren’t so terrible in that part of the game we would have won more than 3 games and one would have been the Ioway game…

It is more than just luck that Iowa is able to rank high in forcing turnovers every year. Much like it's not just bad luck that is causing Scott Frost to be 5-15 in one score games.
Yea it’s their defense, I’m not saying it’s all luck but scoring that many TD’s on Defense and special teams when your offense is that putrid is why they’re 10-4 last year…

I get your point that Iowa shouldn't count on that every year. Even with that defense, they were probably the worst team to ever be ranked #2 in the nation because of their offense.

Iowa’s defense is solid. Their offense is about the same… may have a better oline. Tougher schedule than last season though so I think they finish in the middle of the west.

As far as Nebraska, they’ll be as good as their lines… both huge question marks. Schedule is very favorable.

I think the big ten west dark horse is Illinois.

Shower clappers are -3.5 @ purdue somehow despite purdue having a significant home field advantage (really big drum, maybe 20k bumpkins in the seats) and infinitely better QB

What am I missing?

lol nevermind, shower clappers by 100

Yeah...and that was the one game I wanted Nebraska to win. But you choked away Minnesota's West Division title.

It says they both suck.
The misery loves company schtick you guys have been on for a decade really doesn’t make you look any better like you seem to think it does, lol. Guessing it’s meant to imply some inherently high and unrealistic standard you guys have out there in Nebraska.

No, we are the realistic fans. The Iowa, Purdue and Minnesota fans are unrealistic because they won’t admit that their teams are crap teams.

Idk why I have to admit Purdue is crap though. They have everything Nebraska has and a better QB and HC. I won't speak on Iowa or Minnesota.

I don't want to be miserable as a fan and I don't want company as a fan.

You dorks seem to love that though.

How is it "unrealistic" to think that the West is horrible?

Minnesota's new coach has us 20-6 (13-5) in the last 2 full seasons. And if you try to say the entire Big Ten is weak...well we also beat top-10 Auburn, the next game after they beat Alabama.

what are your expectations for this season, given the above?

my suspicion is your success 2 out of the last 3 years has been a mere pleasant surprise in the monotonous desert that is b1g football, given you rodents have standards on par with your dwellings

Fleck gives us our first good season in 50 years...11-2...Playoff contention at 9-0 beating #4 Penn State...beat Auburn. But then the lockdown scam hits us - couldn't have been worse timing. Recruiting stops, all of our momentum stops...and all of a sudden other lesser coaches are ranked ahead of Fleck on all the lists. I thought our turnaround was derailed. But Fleck bounced back last year. So I'm hoping it's the real deal and we continuously stay on top of the West. We'd have won it if Nebraska wouldn't have choked the Iowa game away.

So you expect to win the west this year all by yourselves?

Lock down killed Purdue recruiting as well. I understand. How is minny going to be in the trenches this year? They lost a ton. I think that's pivotal to any success. Correct me if I'm wrong.

When you your team is hosting Bowling Green and proceeds to lose outright in one of the biggest ever point spread upset losses in history...well...you are just not that close.

But Gopher fan will row the boner if they get to a bowl game.

Yeah but the timing was much worse for us. Everyone stopped talking about Fleck and switched to Covid instead. Guys like Brohm leapfrogged Fleck on the 'best coaches' lists.

Fleck's hands-on motivational approach was hamstrung...in favor of sterilization atmospheres and programs with CEO-type coaches.

Brohm not being able to get guys on visits is what killed Purdue.

This is crazy-town

PJ Fleck, best coaches list?
Jeff B, best coaches list?

Recruiting getting hurt only at Minny and Purdue because of Covid and lack of visits. Like any big time recruit has ever set foot on that lame *** campus in Minny, or went to a home game where there were maybe 40,000 fans in attendance, and said "This...this must be heaven"

Us Husker fans get it, we were 3-0 last year, not counting the 9 losses. We had just beat NW who, back in 93 had just beat a top 5 Michigan team. Things were rolling along and then...two years before last year...Covid hits.

Recruiting pretty much stops, basically just for us and no one else and the turnaround was derailed.

If only people had masked up.

I think its fair to say it's easier to recruit at a place like Nebraska when compared to Minnesota and Purdue, making on-campus visits more important for those two schools than Nebraska.

As for best coaches, I won't speak on Fleck, but I think Brohm is really good. I want to see him post rebuild before I say how good.

Having everything grind to a halt helped Nebraska. It's best if they recruiting on past reputation. Focusing on Frost, with visits, hurts.

Minnesota was coming of 11-2, and with a motivational coach. Having everything grind to a halt hurt badly.

I don't visit your site (do you have one?) but is that the theory?

That Minny would have been NC's if not for Covid?
