I really thought Mertz was going to be good. I agree on MSU as well. Maybe I'm missing something others aren't.

Purdue has a more favorable schedule, Penn St at home then at Maryland and at Indiana from the East, but they will still only win 6 games.
That would be a real disappointment if Purdue only won 6. They have the team and talent to win 8+. If they can beat Wisconsin this year, they could make a serious push for the west.

let's just say your track record isn't exactly exemplary

Purdue is a little better than Mediocre in bball. Not winning the big ten and making the elite 8 would be a disappointment.

0-for-2. shocker!

purdue fans have been blessed with the ability to literally never have expectations about anything. yet, here you go blowing your wad a month before the season, setting yourself up for disappointment completely of your own accord

Basketball was a complete disappointment. I wasn't wrong. Sasha breaking his finger and not being able to shoot didn't help at all. Nor did furst hitting a freshman wall. They were far from mediocre though, so I was actually correct and that post proves it. Lol

I had football pegged at 6 wins last year. I swung and missed. Maybe he will call me out for that as well. And throw in some explicitives and insults because he can't help it. No one has told me why Purdue isn't cabale of winning 8 this year. Solid run D. Best QB in the west. Plethora of pass catchers. Depth.

I get it though. I went 1 for 2 last year. Said basketball would be a disappointment if they didn't make the elite 8 and football would win 6.

Wisky will be tough as always but they are not the Wisky of old. We were a bad non-call away from beating them on the road last year. Row the boat has only 1 starter back from each line-- they are totally unpredictable right now and a QB injury away from sucking. Purdue could be good but their roster doesn't dominate anyone. Iowa will be sound as always but beatable with shaky QB play. Wish I knew what our O-line was going to be like. I do think we start out 3-0 and give OU a tussle at home. The two schools from Illinois should just stick to watching videos of Chicago residents shoot each other. It will be more exciting than their two teams.

Furst hitting the freshman wall? He didn't even play 20 minutes in a game after Christmas but 1 time and that was against Yale in the NCAA tournament garbage time. Who hits the wall in December, that is barely the start of the conference schedule?

The one who comes from a small school and struggled with the physicality of big ten games.

His minutes were reduced before the conference season even started. But if you say he hit the wall, then he hit the wall.
He struggled with the physicality. He came from a school of like 120 kids. If you ask me, Purdue wasn't void of talent last year, but they were void of that leader that takes control of the team. Ivey wasn't ready to take that role yet, which I understood as he was still working on his game since he was so raw as a player, but it seemed like the team was waiting on him to be that guy. It was kind of weird to watch. I noticed it in late January. When ivey did take over though (Illinois game @ Illinois), it was magical.

I don't have a full ranking, but here are my 2 hopes for the season:

1. we do not look like the bad news bears on any single play
2. ohiost loses to notre dame week 1

It's Ohio State and everyone else in that division. But if I had to pick a second place it would be Michigan. I don't see Michigan State coming close to #2 in their division. I see 4 automatic losses on their schedule and would not put it past Minnesota beating them as well.

I think in our division your top 3 are solid and I could see them finishing in any order. I have to favor Wisky because I am sick of saying they are going to drop off after so and so leaves. People like me who say that sound like Husker fans saying Creighton will drop off after their so and so leaves and I've learned my lesson. I would be stunned of NW finishes last, but debating about who comes in last in the worst division in CFB seems silly so I won't :)

I want to rate us higher but will resist the koolaid. Five straight losing seasons means Nebraska should not be given the benefit of the doubt based simply on optimism generated by new coaches and the success we had in the transfer portal. Now we have to prove that we know how to win again. And until we do, there is no way we should be rated as a contender. The key will be the play of both of our lines. We need to return to the days of being solid in the trenches. Are we? Who knows? We lack quality, proven depth on both lines and none of the projected starters are All-B1G caliber players. You can bring in all kinds of good skill position players but still lose if the line play is poor.

@Penn State
vs Rutgers

You call this favorable?

Nebraska has:

vs Indiana
@Rutgers
@Michigan
Never said Nebraska schedule was difficult and Nebraska hasn’t been mentioned as one of the contenders in the west and you failed to mention New Mexico St, Western Illinois and Colorado as non conference games that is a favorable schedule part you over looked..

Michigan St will not be as good this year, when they surprised every one last season when the year before that they were one of the worst teams along with us ..

Bell and Wright are gone along with their combined +2k receiving yards. O’Connell is good but Bell made him look great. Iowa xfr Jones is an electric special teams player but he’s not getting +100 yds/game receiving.
Is that why he threw for 500+ yards in the bowl game? Throwing to walk-on's at the end because all the 4 star guys were hurt? Purdue has plenty of wide receivers. Jones is probably WR5 or WR6. Wouldn't be shocked if Tracey was WR4. Have two really good TE's as well. Purdue pass catching room is top 3 in the big ten imo.

He threw for 500+ yards in the bowl game because:

1. the refs made it illegal for Tenn to cover, awarding purdue with countless first downs and free plays on the ticky tackiest of calls, leading to by far the biggest disparity in penalty yards by two opponents all bowl season

2. the fat guy who coaches Tenn treats the play clock like a countdown to a nuclear explosion

3. the game went into overtime

Most of the PI's were actually PI. It was terrible defense. OT accounted for 7 passing yards and doesn't change my point, but imagine what O'Connell would have done with his #1 and #2 WR's playing, #4 WR not getting hurt mid game, #5 WR not needing double knee surgery, and #6 and #7 WR's being out with injuries. Purdue has tons of talent at WR still. And two of the better pass catching TE's in the big ten. Now, if O'Connell wasn't the 2nd best QB in the big ten, might have an issue. We will see next year though. Brohm is recruiting QB insanely well. Getting Purdue back to being known for QB's.

All I know is that we would have beaten Purdue by at least 2 TD's last year if A-mart didn't have one of his most A-Martiest games of his four years here. Hopefully our new QB is a little bit better than that.

Wisconsin smells like stinky cheese - pre, during, and post season just like their fan base.
