Can you just repair your divot and take a gimme at that point? Because if you miss after placing at the spot of the divot, you should just quit.

Was playing a couple weeks ago and one guy in our group shanked his tee shot so bad that it went in the hole on the previous hole. Hole in one on the wrong hole.

Nah, you get free relief under the embedded ball rule. That part is easy.

The question is, where would you place the ball? I would think you would be okay to place it a few inches away, since you obviously can't get any closer to the hole than it already is, then tap it in for birdie. But I'm not a rules expert, so someone might disagree.

The embedded ball rules don’t apply to the green since you can mark your ball , even though it’s not encouraged you can legally mark the ball on either side, my solution mark it on the side ,fix the divot as good as you can , place the ball back and tap in for birdie.

Oh yeah, that's right - that rule wouldn't apply on the green. But I would think you could use the head of your putter to mark it, just as you would if you were in someone else's line, then proceed as you indicated. Good call.

You assume it landed behind the hole. That’s just the angle they took the picture. Look where the green is pushed up/out. That’s on the right side of the ball in the picture. Dude missed an inch to the left of the cup and the ball stuck in its divot. No hole and one and he didn’t really get screwed. He was a tad wide left. If it doesn’t imbed in the divot, it probably ends up bouncing past the hole or spinning back short of the hole, depending whether he gets enough spin on the ball To back it up

Just played in a member-guest and saw a brawl just about erupt. Like clockwork a dude brought a guy who is an "eight" that then is just an absolute stick and they blow everyone out of the water.

An 8 shouldn’t be in the 60s each day. I can see a low 70s maybe one day but most golfers in that category don’t string two days in a row. They are an 8 for a reason.
