Kid invited to play for team in NBC WS in Wichita. One of the top amateur baseball tournaments in country. Serious talent, great opportunity and can’t wait to see him compete. 16 teams, will be amazing experience!

Those proud Dad moments are the best! My son starts his freshman year at a Juco this fall. Big adjustments for Mom and Dad ahead!

I know first game is noon on Thursday, in Hutchison. Sat and Monday TBD. Monday is at Wichita St
My son played a double header against Wichita State when he was a freshman.

He was fortunate to play in 3 World Series and 2 World Championships out of the country.

I think your son, and you and your wife are gonna have a great experience.

Just make sure he is focused on his strengths and let his talent take over.

There will be a boatload of talent, and some really great arms on the mound.

It's amateur baseball at it's finest. Those kids have a lot of skill or they wouldn't be there.

Remember to tell him, he's there, because his play earned him the right to be there.

Agree, don’t think he fully understands how big time of tourney this is. But he likes the bright lights. Congrats to your son that is big time. He is a pitcher think he is pitching first game. Unfortunately I can’t make it, unless they advance.

Sweet, he must have some stuff. What's his velocity and how many pitches can he throw for strikes? If he's not sharp on the fastball, does he have a nice slider or a good hook or change up that is always there?

Dbat Collegiate don’t know his #. He is a pitcher, prob starting Thursday. Came together pretty quick. I will let you know his number when I find out.
I'll give you my philosophy of the last 50 years I coached.

It's not the number, or the style of uniform you wear, it's what you put in it.

Can anyone set up a Zoom so you could at least watch him throw?

About 6’3.5” 175, but adding weight. Consistent 88-90 FB, really top end Ch and curve and slider. Pretty solid strike thrower, upper 60%. His FB plays a bit higher with solid extension on delivery. He is coming, would like to see 92-93 by end of next spring. Loves to compete, reminds me of a lefty starter from Neb last year.

Sweet. That's a body that will grab some attention from the big boys. On that FB just remind him to be firm on the front side and stay on top of the ball and he'll do a great job.

Anybody with a great change can be a challenge for any hitter, especially if he can locate that fastball and work that inner half.

Not to lecture, but remind him he has 7 other guys behind him to help. It doesn't have to be a "me against the hitter" mentality.

Nice.
I always found it best for my son, prior to really big outings, was to stay out of his head.
I always said, someone makes a mistake, pick him up. You make a mistake a teammate will pick you up.

To me, what seemed most important was just the reminders of "don't worry how the umpire calls strikes---adjust to the zone he likes to call strikes in."

Just pump him up!! When you get the opening call in the opener, you have something special.

I'm gonna let you go. Please tell your son there are lots of guys rooting for him back in Nebraska.

I can''t wait to see him excel and give Dad another Proud moment!!

Appreciate that, would love him to pitch for Huskers. We will see!!

Watching your kids go to the next level( whatever that level is) is a blast….my oldest played college hoops, my youngest could have played hoops or tennis… it was fun

In the interest of science, please report your Blood Pressure as your son nears the mound in the first inning. Thanks.

Actually much calmer then travel and HS. I have relaxed as he can pitch with most. Still a bit nervous but watched sitting next to his mom. I usually stand somewhere nobody can see me. He went 6inn, 4h, 6k’s, 2r only 1er. Came out up 4-2, bp gave up 2 but we won 5-4. He was a bit wild with 5 bb’s but was a shoe box zone. Had another team asked him to play for them next yr. Good game and experience

That's winning baseball there! 1 Earned Run in 6 innings is an helluva effort, any evaluator knows the zone and takes that into account.

I always told my kids, "I don't give a crap WHERE that ump's strike zone is TODAY, find it and work within that zone, let him call strikes where he "thinks" they are."

Did he throw well out of the stretch?

How many pre-positions does he use when he is throwing to 1B?

An online friend, (board member) and I have one on one messages back and forth in this forum almost every day. It's free.

It's not like a live chat, but if you are sending short messages, I think it could be fairly quick.
