Kyler gets his bag of $$$. Most of it guaranteed.
Seems like a major gamble for the franchise.

Who's Kyler Murray?

Some super athletic QB who cannot be counted on to drive his team down the field late in a playoff game for a must score and will probably end the year on the IR because he runs to much....but makes a ton of spectacular plays along the way.....and has now handcuffed his team with his contract.

Ravens didn't.

Ravens are in a no win here...they will have to pay Lamar like a top 2 or 3 QB, but they aren't getting anywhere near that in terms of play/results. I franchise him for one year when it's his turn to get paid and let him pout about it.
Ravens need to cut Lamar. The NFL has figured him out. He can't make the throws that matter, when it matters.

At what point do these insane contracts handicap a team so bad they can't get decent players to surround these QBs?

I think we're already seeing it, and have been

how many of the highest annual salaried QBs have won a super bowl *during a big cap hit year* over the past decade?

without checking, I am willing to bet it is 1 or 0

the wealthiest owners who are liquid are able utilize a loophole in the salary cap (cash over cap) in order to do what the Rams did last year - pay your quarterback $30M, but less than $10M hits the cap since salary structure favors signing bonuses/guarantees, etc., which means you can have your cake (attract limitless number of players with huge contracts) and eat it, too (not hamstring your roster due to clean bookkeeping & majority all-cash payouts)

as a fan of a team owned by a 5,000 year old woman who I'm guessing is less than savvy in business & whose wealth is entirely tied to the team, I hope this loophole is closed very, very soon

When I saw DeShaun Watson's contract, with all of his baggage, I knew all sanity had left the league. I will be openly rooting for the 3 million dollar quarterbacks to take down the 40 million dollar quarterbacks.

Yep, a lot of dudes will get rich and fade into obscurity. Brady will be rich AND have one of the greatest NFL legacies of all time. Brady FTW.

Brady didn’t take a payout , he reconstructed it (Backloaded )so they could keep the core of the super bowl team together,
