Why I hope the Pac 12 gets saved

My reasoning for wanting the Pac 12 to stay afloat is for the chance for Boise State to be part of a Power 5 conference. Boise State, TCU, and Utah used to be the best of the non BCS teams back in the BCS days, and all three had played in BCS bowls despite being in mid major conferences. Utah and TCU got invited to the Pac 12 and the Big 12 respectively. Boise was on the cusp of joining the Big East, but the Big East got raided and ended up dissolving as a football conference, and Boise was relegated back to the Mountain West. I thought Boise was every bit as good as Utah and TCU and deserved a chance to shine in a Power 5 conference, so I hope the Pac 12 stays together and sends Boise an invite so that Boise can finally get their chance much like Utah and TCU.

I hope the PAC and B12 merge so we can just have three superconferences. If it's anything like politics, we absolutely need a third competitor to keep the other two honest (and therefore actually competitive). Boise State deserves to be in that combined conference no doubt, as do at least several of each conferences teams.

I don’t know why people are writing off the ACC. Both the big12 and PAC12 should be begging to join with the ACC

ACC currently has Clemson- FSU and Miami in football and Duke-UNC in basketball. Both of those are better than what the PAC and B12 have combined. You would need those programs to be members of a 3rd super conf to be viable

I think the ACC is about to get nuked. If Clemson jumps ship to the SEC, that conference is all but DONE.

Boise has had good seasons when they played similar levels of competition. If you were to kick them up a notch, their overall lack of elite talent would show and they'd be a middle of a pack team at best. They've won some good games against good competition, but I don't think they could do it consistently.

I would like to see Boise State and BYU added to the Pac 12 and have them carry on as usual. That would be a good conference.

There's going to be a whole lot of mediocrity from formerly decent programs in these mega conferences. Is a fan base going to be happy with an 10th place finish in their conference and a trip to the Charmin Ultra Soft Bowl?

True. I think the only programs left out there other than ND that are going to add value to either the SEC and big ten are in the ACC

any of these programs hoping to be added to one of the super conferences are going to have to have the ability to drive up the tv contract as much or more than what the current members are expected to get which is estimated to be 75-100 million per school. Otherwise you are just dividing the same size pie more ways and current member schools take away less

conferences aren’t going to take an Iowa state if it means less money for them due to equal conf payouts

Hopefully, USC, UCLA at least get the same "welcoming" schedule as NU did when they joined.

May I suggest those two California teams be scheduled for a round robin visit in November to Columbus, Ann Arbor, East Lansing, and Penn State or NU. They may want to leave their
t-shirts and bermuda shorts back in California.

Average temperature in LA during winter 68/50

Columbus, Ohio 40/23
Ann Arbor, Michigan 33/21
College Park, Penn. 38/22
East Lansing, MI 32/18
Lincoln 38/21

Same as Utah and TCU when they moved up to the Power 5 level. Just like Utah and TCU, they would build up their talent levels where they would be competitive if given the opportunity.

The difference is, in politics, the 3rd parties are completely irrelevant and do very little to keep the repubicants or the democraps honest. In order for a 3rd super conference to be viable, they would at least have to be relevant in order to keep the other two honest.

why would a 3rd conference need to prove relevance when half the "super conferences" can't?

B1G is the most irrelevant P5 conference - by far - on the field/court. just 1 single B1G program (ohiost football) has won a major sports national title in the last 25 years.

geography is the only thing keeping the B1G "relevant"

@moralvictories can you please tell me what, if anything, is incorrect about this post?

I get very confused when people's only response to plain as day facts is to laugh

B1G is far from being irrelevant. Ohio State won the 2014 College football title and has been in the playoffs every year except last year when Michigan won the B1G and went to the playoffs.

ohiost has participated in 4/8 college football playoffs (half, not all but 1)

since 2014, the B1G has won 1 single CFP game. the conference did not participate in the CFP in '18 and '19, and nobody noticed

aside from 2014 and 2021, its inclusion in the CFP is thanks solely to the media, which is driven by geography, which is the ONLY thing that keeps the B1G "relevant"

I think for you average fan on the street, the only three teams people could regularly come up with who have been noticeabley in the CFP are Clemson, OSU, and Bama. Which is essentially one from of each of the "contenders" to be mega conferences today.

Not even sure I'd have a bunch of faith that your casual fan would throw out Oklahoma in response to the question.

No such thing as the power 5 anymore so abandon those thoughts.

There is the Big Ten as the national prestige conference with both athletics & research and then

there is the SEC as a regional athletic league that is good at football and baseball.

The rest are leftovers.

Your entire premise is incorrect. Clearly. That a conference is irrelevant unless one of its teams wins the National Championship.

The football Playoff has a very small sample size. And the SEC gets 2 teams in while other P5 conferences get none in. You think everyone is irrelevant except Alabama and Georgia.

As for basketball, the Big Ten over the years has done as well as any other conference. Especially at out-performing their seeding. Except yeah, they've lost a few Championship games.

You know deep down you're being ridiculous.

Also king_kong....Nick Saban is a criminal. A cheater. So are Roy Williams and Coach K.

Why do you side with criminals?

I think Nick saban is a coward who couldn’t hack it in the men’s league

I hate coach k

don’t care about deputy dog and his players skipping skool

me saying the SEC is the only relevant conference is akin to me saying gravity exists. It’s the only league that competes at the highest level in all 3 major sports.

b1g fans have to cite off-field/court reasons for relevance. That’s not relevant, it’s pathetic just like you dragging your corpse back here after months away for more flogging

The Big Ten just rolled out the welcome mat for USC football and basketball, and you're wetting yourself over Coach K and Nick Saban?

Personally I don't really care if Pete Carroll and Andy Enfield employed some of the best bag men in the business. But as a sanctimonious whiner who goes full-on Church Lady at every possible opportunity, your head should be exploding.

seems like the math in putting all the historically top teams in one conferance would make a lot of historically top teams "irrelevant". seeing only one can be the champ each year...because of the law of non contradiction and impossibility of the contrary...texas and bama can't both win the championship at the same time..nor can oklahoma and georgia or florida and lsu

You must be making millions of dollars every year then. Betting on SEC teams that are guaranteed to win.

Doesn’t take a year to get rich when the SEC plays 3 New Years Day games vs the B1G, guy

I will admit - cashing a +600 or so moneyline underdog vs the B1G in the sweet 16 kind of felt like stealing

I'm selfish. I only want the Pac12 to survive for "Pac12 After Dark". After I finish all the other games and marquee matchups, it's fun to watch one more game. Often it's ASU and with Herm that's been interesting.

The PAC 12 only exists for gambling degenerates to chase those late night games hoping to pull even after loading up on games like Nebraska (minus 7) vs Illinois. Even better when Hawaii is playing a night home game

They are usually some pretty exciting games
