Carter Nelson Elite Marks Perspective

Being a former D1 track athlete and football player I'm always partial to these Football/Track kids like Carter. For those who don't know the track & field world very well here's where his marks and times stack up right now as a SOPHMORE:

Pole Vault 13'8" - Only needs 2 more feet to be considered a D1 level PV
100M 11sec - absolutely tracking to be D1 level 100 time in 2 years.
Discus 175ft - DII level mark
High Jump 7' - Write your ticket to any D1 in the country.

@Sean Callahan touched on it in the 3-2-1 but I think it should be said, this kid is on pace to be one of best if not THE best overall athlete to ever come out of Nebraska and he's from AINSWORTH! Unreal Nebraska was smart get an offer in this kids hands early.

Hopefully he remembers that when it’s time to pick a sign the scholarship papers.

Just gonna point out....Sam Cappos of Lincoln East has D1 offers to throw at UNL and Duke. His best discus this year, as a Junior, is 182 (he does have some big shot put throws though too which probably helped get him the offer, along with his pedigree). He was offered NU this fall before he had cracked the 170 mark. I had no idea this Ainsworth kid was hitting close to 180. That clip above looks absolutely effortless. Throw in the rest of his marks and this is insane.

All great things and shows some superior athleticism to say the least especially for a sophomore. BUT the thing I worry about is him not really facing stiff competition while playing for the Ainsworth Bulldogs. I have heard because of this he does not always have the best work ethic and is a little full of himself. His parents also feed his ego. Yes, a lot can change in 2 more years of high school but just telling you what I know now from a friend who knows the kid and family. I just worry once he gets to Lincoln (if he signs) then he will just be another guy because he was so used to being the big fish in the small pond.

well, the marks speak for themselves, but I get what you are saying. I think that just goes with the territory with a lot of D1 kids. They usually get humbled and fix it, or get left behind

"Best overall athlete" is a bit hyperbolic when you consider that guys like Tom Kropp, Gale Sayers, Sam Francis, Bob Gibson and Frank Lewellen (look him up; in both the college and NFL Halls of Fame) all came out of Nebraska high schools.
I recall when Ainsworth was a "B" school. Am I right that it is an 8-man program these days?

Yep it’s small, just like most of rural Nebraska these days, can’t hardly get enough kids out to form a solid team.

you thinking of Alliance? I cant see Ainsworth ever being class B, but maybe.

That's pretty common really. When you dominate, it's hard for some young kids to buy in to the daily grind when they haven't needed to. There's a big adjustment to the college level. Some kids make it, some don't. Accepting coaching, being willing to practice hard, learn the fundamentals. Some guys are so good that they continue to coast in college and still get to play, but most guys either have to adjust or they wash out.

Ainsworth is C1...in the old Southwest Conference (Lexington still class B and Holdrege moved on and were replaced by Ainsworth and Valentine)...in conf with Cozad, Gothenburg, Minden, Broken Bow, and Ogallala
