It's not though. Just gotta click the x on the pop upWould read but paywall.
A lot has to do with: 1) the faithful passion of Nebraska fans (eg., still a full stadium during a horrible win/loss track record), 2) the uniqueness of being the single major football program in the state (ie., no other P5 programs and no NFL) and 3) the rich, successful past history. Of course those three reasons are somewhat related.I still don’t get why so many think Nebraska is going to excel in NIL? True, we have one state team - but $5,000 to join an NIL donor group? Shatel is excited about 75 in the group for a combined $375,000? That could be the entry fee for some groups in DFW, Los Angeles, and other areas.
The entire population of Nebraska is a fraction of the population of many large cities and metros in the country. Not to mention, the wealth of Nebraskans does not remotely compete with these places.
It just seems like another topic some can cling onto to help divert from reality the sorry state that Nebraska athletics has been in for years. We shall see…
I bet people would give more NIL money if the damn property taxes here werent so high.
I agree with this. At least in the short term there is no way NU can keep up with the deep pockets of the SEC or the big name teams from places with large populations. However, winning changes everything and if we restore the Nebraska brand - - a big "if" - - then we will not necessarily have to rely just on in-State donors. Our recruiting reach has to be national due to our small population and so does our NIL reach. And that will only happen if we start winning again. And that MUST start his year. Frost and his staff (as well as Trev) have to know this and I am sure they feel the pressure. That can be good and it can be bad. The coaches can coach with urgency and focus (a good thing) or they can coach from a position of fear and stress (a bad thing). Furthermore, the players are not immune to the pressure either and it could cause them to play tight and also from a position of stress and fear. But pressure can also be a great motivator. Time will tell. Huge season ahead of us. Frost is in desperate need of a signature win that makes the season. I love the fact that we play OU again this year and in Lincoln. I think OU is beatable and if we do it, we will be back on the map very quickly.I still don’t get why so many think Nebraska is going to excel in NIL? Abolish property taxes!I bet people would give more NIL money if the damn property taxes here werent so high.
The fan base isn't limited to the state of Nebraska, it has a national following. I will admit if our winning doesn't improve we will lose a lot of the younger fans, the old guard will always be faithful.I still don’t get why so many think Nebraska is going to excel in NIL? Probably the case long before NIL.Are some SEC players that get drafted in the lower rounds going have to take a pay cut in the future?
We?We're giving 600k to the kid from Texas
Here’s 375K for all of you other scrubs (across all sports) to divide up
It would be nice if the rich players bring donuts in every now and then.Have to wonder if the pay discrepancy in the locker room might cause some drama
Maybe a bit.. how much does it affect NFL locker rooms?Have to wonder if the pay discrepancy in the locker room might cause some drama
Well that's the beauty of being a fan. Fans can still wholeheartedly support their team, their university despite losing and all the negativity. To answer your question as to why -- it's because fans CARE! And of course as a fan since 1968, I have to believe that this will not last much longer. WE are NEBRASKA! We will have winning seasons again. It's not a pipe dream nor am I drinking the Kool-Aid!!I still don’t get why so many think Nebraska is going to excel in NIL? This is true. Or make it a write off for tax purposes, then you really would see more.I bet people would give more NIL money if the damn property taxes here werent so high.
Doubt that'll happenThis is true. Or make it a write off for tax purposes, then you really would see more.
Ya think?boosters/businesses when considering delegating funds to NIL have to know that there is a decent chance that the AD will be passing the collection plate around very soon begging for money to pay the buyouts of some current coaches as well for the hiring of new coaches
I've been told they're going to start on this free board by assessing fees to all Iowa and gopher trolls and double if they have less than 200 posts.Ya think?
The last 4 letters of his handle pretty much sums up his life.
No doubt some of the NIL difference for Thompson had to do with our desperation to land a QB. The guy you have is never as good as the new guy unless the new guy is Joe Burrow......that said, the way boosters are stepping up is impressive. JMO.Because NU is excelling at this moment, that's why. Casey Thompson himself says Nebraska’s NIL is better than Texas'. At least for him it is. We landed Mathis, who lives 10 minutes from UT's campus. When's the last time NU landed a kid within 45 minutes of UT, legit offered by UT and the final 2 were us & UT? Maybe NIL had something to do with it, maybe it didn't.
75 at $5,000 each was the initial buy-in. It didn't stop at that, Shatel chose to stop at that. $375,000 isn't chicken scratch, no matter how many Husker "fans" want to mock it. It brings awareness to the base. This isn't the only group out there either; I'm aware of at least 3 others around the same introductory donation to be a part of. I'm also aware of 4 others with much smaller amounts, so can't imagine what's out there if I'm aware of 8 (Shatel's 1 + 7 others).
For years people would host an after the season party and a Husker player or two would show up. $5,000 to that individual or $8,000 - amounts varied. That's a lot of money to a college kid. Especially for 1 event.
The wealth of Nebraska's fan base is what matters. And Nebraska's fan base likes to spend money. A lot of it.
That's a pretty straight-forward explanation Tim, but it might be over some people's heads.... LOL. It's like.... Thomspson.... Mathis... WTH else do they want to see??? It's working!Because NU is excelling at this moment, that's why.

Keeps ya busy at the motel 6. Somebody has to clean the roomsthe fan base travels like no other
there isn’t a motel 6 vacancy within a hundred miles when Nebraska is town and good luck trying to get a table a Denny’s
The residents from Ioway City do..Keeps ya busy at the motel 6. Somebody has to clean the rooms
You must work at both.the fan base travels like no other

The ABM site u can donate as much or as little as u want to, no set amount or obligation. Can we do grassroots NIL groups like political donations ? Where a Granny Nebraska fan could donate $10 and all her granny friends too so we can afford some contributors?
Can you dictate what player it goes to?The ABM site u can donate as much or as little as u want to, no set amount or obligation.
No, not on that one..Can you dictate what player it goes to?
how many other areas besides those two? could nebraska be a legitimate top 10 player in nil? top 12? i don't think anyone expects nebraska to be top 5 in nil, but it seems like top 15 is a reality.I still don’t get why so many think Nebraska is going to excel in NIL? Well nobody knows how NIL will shake out over time. Right now it's the wild west. BUT one thing for certain is that if you don't try to get ahead of it as a school and try to capitalize on whatever advantages you have, then for sure you will wind up in last place.I still don’t get why so many think Nebraska is going to excel in NIL?
