I remember people saying similar things about Joe Burrow at the time. "If his dad hadn't played here, nobody would be saying we should have offered him, he's only a 3-star recruit".
The fact is, we signed an average QB from 1500 miles away, when there was one 30 miles away who actually has the size to play QB at this level. Watson is listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds - and that's being very generous. If we had a 5-star QB committed, I would understand passing on Flores. But instead, we decided to only take one QB, and it's a 3-star kid that won't even be able to see over the offensive line and will probably end up changing positions at the college level.
So basically you don't trust Whipple's opinion on QBs?
I'm not saying he's right or wrong or even above reproach. Just curious as to what or why he should have took the local kid. If he evaluated both for the offense that he wants to run and came to the conclusion that one was a better fit than the other SHOULDNT he offer/take that QB?
My only pushback on your take is that somehow because one guy is 6' and the other is 6'3 or whatever that somehow makes him better. Distance imo shouldn't really matter when evaluating these guys.
If I'm being honest a lot of this comes off as some of you guys sounds like a kid should get a "location bump". Or in your case a "height bump".
I'm not here to argue one is better than the other because I truly don't know and won't pretend to. Just think some of the reasons I hear are basically vailed ways to simply say "we want the local guy".
Anyways I wish both guys the best of luck. One thing u have to remember is that just because a guy does "x" at one school doesn't mean he would've done it here. I think a guy like Easton Stick is a prime example. I don't believe he becomes that guy at Nebraska. Look at Wandale Robinson here and look at him at Kentucky. It all plays a part in how good players become.
Being completely honest if you want whats best for the kid I'd say that Gundy and OSU probably represent that at the moment. That hurts but I honestly believe that currently.
