We all can hope, but this is par for the scumbag B1G course

everyone who roots for this conference’s non-Nebraska success (as if there would ever be any) is culpable

Amazingly, people with a violent history still get out when they should be in prison forever. That was a horrific read, I don’t know how some people can go through what those victims did and (not all) have a positive outlook, they are truly inspiring.

I read the first 2 or 3 paragraphs and had to quit. Couldn't take it anymore. Typical lying ESPN trash.
First FOUR paragraphs are below. Please point out the lies:

Karen was alone in her apartment when the phone rang.

She didn't like being alone. It had been weeks since she had been attacked there, but the apartment still felt to her like a crime scene, a place that had been turned over and rummaged through. She had called the police on the night of the attack, when she finally convinced herself that she might be safe. She had gone to the local hospital and submitted to an examination. She had opened the Yellow Pages and called a resource new to the town where she had gone to school and now lived, something called a rape crisis center.

But the police seemed to want more from her, even after she had told them everything she could remember. The hospital had run out of rape kits, and the nurse who examined her was rude, she thought, "mocking." The rape crisis center had no therapists to recommend, only women around her age who offered more sympathy than expertise.

Karen felt as though she were being pushed aside and forgotten. The attack she had endured was inescapably real but, in its aftermath, she faced a sense of unreality so powerful that she kept in her pocket the scant newspaper clipping about her assault to remind herself that it really happened. The apartment provided no refuge. When she discovered that photos she kept of herself were missing, she knew they had been taken but couldn't be sure by whom. Nothing had gone untouched. When the phone rang, the call came through a line that a few weeks before had been cut by the blade of a knife.

Apparently they didn’t care back then considering the guy went on a spree of rapes and a murder while awaiting sentencing in Happy Valley. Irv Pankey is a good man reading this piece.
The judge letting him free while awaiting sentencing was quite odd. So were the articles written about him back then that excluded the fact he was in the football team.

It's always been the case that some people want to excuse Paterno for being of a different time. I think the truth is that he was just a calculating piece of **** that got away with whatever he could to keep his guys on the field no matter what.

"Boys will be boys" is one thing, when it is getting hammered at a bar or throwing a party...

It is another when it is a dude raping and killing people.

It is amazing to see what a pile of garbage JoPa really was.

Joe wanted Todd H off of the team. Allegedly, Joe went as far as telling a “witness” you are off the team if you testify on Todd’s behalf. Joe obviously believed Todd H to be guilty, Remember, Todd was suspended after his Freshman year, and never was part of the team again.

I read that he didn’t want anyone on his team to testify so the newspapers could (of which they did anyway) avoid mentioning Penn state football in the articles covering the trials and the story

Not so sure about that. The guy was convicted of felony burglary and was suspended and kept on scholarship. He was then accused of several rapes and when one finally went to trial Joe Pa allowed team members to skip practice to support him. Then after the guilty verdict, he doesn’t mention it, the papers don’t write about it, it just goes away, expect the part where Hodne then goes on to continue to rape and then murder.

I don’t think Joe Pa handled it all that bad. He suspended him when he got in trouble and booted him with the rape conviction (although with that many allegations, it was probably way over due). But he clearly had a soft spot for Hodne and also wanted to cover this up, so he could keep taking about the Penn State way and pretending they were different and special.

i will always laugh when people thought nebraska didn't belong in the "prestigious" big ten conference. this conference is full of child molestation, sexual assault, 20+ years of institutional racism. just a gross conference.

That's the calculating part. He tried to keep him initially even though he was a felon. Look, I'm not saying other coaches (many) weren't just as bad, but you can't excuse Joe as some bumbling "he meant well" ball coach. He was like a spider that manipulated every part of the web.

Typical B1G fan, all too eager to take bullets for a serial rapist.

Joe Pa got off easy - he should’ve been a Cosby-level pariah for decades for fostering that culture & completely shamed into his grave.

his statue should be melted down and repurposed into so many chastity belts for the other B1G sexual offenders to wear permanently until they join Joe and Sandusky in hell.

psu fan...just a very 'odd' take?

Iowa fan, pretending to be a Minnesota fan, last I checked. The guy also said the allegations at Iowa were all lies, so he's pretty consistent in defending scumbags.

This actually made sense to you when you typed it? Joe, if the allegations were factual, tried to interfere with the trial by telling another player if he testified on behalf of the defendant that he would be removed from the team. That allegation, if true, is tampering. Joe demonstrated that he was not supporting the defendant. He in fact was supporting the female student.

Yes, Paterno ran a criminal program.

But ESPN is lying when they say that police, hospital workers, and America in general doesn't care if women are raped. My local newspaper prints the same trash propaganda on a daily basis. "She had no one to turn to..." is a favorite way of theirs to start the article.

You have much experience working with crime victims? Because there are actually a lot of those people, not all, who dont give a ****

ESPN and media propaganda works. If their lies are repeated often enough, the people will believe anything. No matter how outrageous the lies are. Like this lie of saying that people don't care if women are raped.

What a shocker - B1G fan trying to change the narrative on rampant serial rape.

it’s the conference’s calling card, and apparently it’s everyone’s fault but their own criminally negligent, holier-than-thou, check-hammering-at-all-costs administrations.

Minneapolis is a perfect example of the ideal B1G city - a total ******** awash with so much foundational societal erosion its citizens actually view the rodents’ on-field product as pleasurable despite zero national stakes, even going so far as calling it “real football” when compared to national powerhouses/the NFL.

Pathetic. People really will believe anything if they’re desperate enough.

Actually you're missing the point of the story. The media is hammering us with this on a daily basis....not because they really care about women more than the rest of us do. They want us to believe that they're good and we're bad....but it's all politics. It all political/social propaganda.

Wait… so the story was written to point out that I’m bad?

You’re right, I did miss the point of the story.

Completely.
