Whenever the Gophers are an NCAA team, I always pray we lose as soon as possible in the Big Ten tournament. Such a colossal waste of time and energy....which only leads to letdowns. And sometimes injuries.
I'm not making excuses for Iowa. I'm saying that you can't judge a team by its conference tourney performance. Iowa was probably overrated. Some others who lost early might be underrated.
But playing a bunch of tough hard-fought conference tourney games is a big detriment. Unless you get a 1 or 2 seed.

Iowa dorks are bitching about a missed call...how about you don't be down to a **** team in the first round when you are favored by 10.
Once again their lack of athleticism and Fran and his nepotism costs them.

Lack of athleticism at the guard position was telling today. Gilyard had his way with Iowa.
Yeah, it really isn't fair. All the other conferences should have to play conference tourney's too.
Total bs for big10 teams. They always get screwed.

The worst thing for Iowa was that old white dude coming back (not the coach), he is so bad and vs teams that had any type of guard at all he ends up not scoring and getting blown by.
As has been mentioned lack of guard play has been Iowa’s fatal flaw, As an Iowa fan I hope for the best but expect the worst, I thought the game was well officiated, Glaring missed call on Kris Murray’s 3 but that sure didn’t cost Iowa the game. As far as the conference tourney excuses, Richmond played 4 games in 4 days just like Iowa.
Playing yourself into the NCAA is one thing. But if you're already in, the Conference Tournaments are a total and complete waste of time and energy. I hate them. When my team is already a lock, I post messages saying I hope we lose.
Think about it. Every single cheer and emotion that Hawkeyes fans had during the Big Ten Tournament was a total and complete waste of time. Totally meaningless and pointless.
Ok well just win. Spiders found a way. Beat the big bad big 10. They lost to a team that had to play there way in. Take that into perspective

Fran had to coach vs a team he did not know...he lame *** players had to play vs a team they have never seen.
Oh and Iowa is the least athletic team in the country except for Johnson and he should have had 30 shots in th second half.
If you're already in the NCAA, the only things you gain by battling ferociously every day in the Conference Tournament are letdowns and injuries.
So this is what it was like to be an Iowa fan back when Nebraska was a respectable program decades ago. I assumed they were miserable and can now validate that.

I’m sure Ioway fans would trade their Big 10 tournament championship for being in the sweet 16 but it doesn’t work that way…
these conf tourneys bring in a lot of money and aren't going away but has anyone looked at performance in the NCAA tourney of those teams coming off playing 4 games in 4 days

The reason for the conference tournaments is the automatic bid..There has been teams that have won both the conference tournament or league and won the NCAA title..
What‘s the purpose of playing tournament in the middle of the season and then go back playing league games …

Another thought is for the selection committee to ensure that conference tournaments actually matter. Iowa should have beaten Richmond anyway but as I said last weekend, they got hosed by staying a #5 while media darlings like Ohio State, Wisconsin and Michigan seemed to get rewarded for crapping out in their first game. Michigan deserved to get stuck in the play-in round more than Indiana and Rutgers. Similar situation in the Big East, where Marquette should have been a bubble team but somehow remained a #9 - and got thumped. Tennessee also seemed to get zero credit for winning the SEC tourney, though they won easily yesterday anyway.
Keep rewarding teams that barely show up for their conference tournament, and you probably will see some serious tanking.
