I'm never ok with anything enabling young people when it comes to drugs.

NCAA can do what they want however.

on a serious note, willingly putting any mind altering substances into your brain is like putin attacking the ukraine. it just dosent make sense.

If you're going to do whatever you can to keep players eligible despite positive tests, just quit testing and treat it like alcohol abuse. Only address it if it's a "problem".

I really don't care either way, but rules with no real enforcement are rules that don't need to exist.

Having played in college, I'd venture a guess that at least 60% of players smoke.

Can't recall a single player on my team that didn't smoke, so that is just a rough guess.

no they are not mind altering substance. addictive to a degree but not mind altering
they excite neurons and produce euphoria/dopamine release.

I have no problem with mind altering substances. They can be beneficial and productive if used correctly. It is healthy to see the world from a different angle every now and then. Straight edge seems kinda boring.

Caffeine addiction is interesting. We have made it into an acceptable addiction where we joke about it as if it is normal behavior. Probably due to most people being caffeine junkies.

I workout a lot and take pre-workout before... if I go over 24 hours without at least half the value of that scoop I start to get really bad headaches and notice cold like symptoms. Do I need to tone it down and ease off of it? Yes but that's besides the point. Point is that caffeine, sugar, whatever addiction is very real and anyone saying otherwise is in denial or ignorant.

Not to be technical, but saying "the Ukraine" is like saying, "the America". It is Ukraine...or America. Now, if you were willing to experiment with mind altering drugs, such a caffeine for instance, you'd pick up on little details like that. Just have to tease...my son who is married to a Ukrainian girl had to correct me as well.

Dont have a problem with this. Whether you're pro, anti or in between. It's not going to significantly change how many players smoke and how often.

As long as the players are meeting their school and football requirements it shouldn't matter what they do in their free-time.

If we have players with Marijuana addiction issues on the team, they usually weed themselves out anyway(pun intended)without some rule to kick them out.

Shouldn't even be managed by the NCAA. It's not a performance enhancing substance. I'd rather have an athlete take some THC at the end of the day instead of an opiate or any other narcotic. Should be team policy and not NCAA.

Alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine are mind altering substances too.
Tobacco and caffeine don't cause cognitive impairment like alcohol and recreational drugs. I've had many intense work related "all-nighters" that were fueled by coffee and cigarettes - you certainly couldn't do that with booze.

You could snort some cocaine and stay up all night, right?
