That's my guess. Gotta get more pressure on the edges which helps containment in collapsing the pocket tooIs this signaling a change in the D? I know we have been looking for "edge" rushers since Frost came on board. Last year we ran a lot and I would argue mostly 4 man fronts. Somehow, we have to get more speed and pass rush on the field.
Given Rogers' size (6-5/295), I would think he'll be playing DT in four man front. McMullen played DE at 280, but most of the DEs weigh in around 250.I can't wait to see what Kpai and Hausmann, Gbayor do in a couple of years as all 3 have speed to burn and will take your head clean off. In a 4 man front I would include Javin Wright as well as a hybrid and he's 6'4
Chin did say when he got here that this would be a multiple Defense and just like last year, we were showing a 4 man front most of the year. This is the way I see it.
DE Nelson/Pheldarius Payne
DT Hutmacher/Ru'Quan Buckley
DT Robinson/Marquise Black
DE Rogers/Blaise Gunnerson
SSLB Henrich/Mikai Gbayor
MLB Reimers/Chris Kolarevic
WSLB Tannor/Randolph Kpai
LCB Newsome
Outside of Newsome, I'm not gonna make a guess as we are stcked and loaded on the back end with so much talent it's not even funny. Competiton on the backend is gonna be absolutely sick.
I know that but Casey, for his size is fast as hell with good feet. He just needs to stay healthy.Given Rogers' size (6-5/295), I would think he'll be playing DT in four man front. McMullen played DE at 280, but most of the DEs weigh in around 250.
We have tons of safeties.
yea that was... tough to watchI remember our #3 safety last year not wanting to tackle.
Who is this Jacob yore speaking about?Jacob Rogers should play DT not DE
Good pointI remember our #3 safety last year not wanting to tackle.
This is my worry as well. We could be an unlucky injury year away from potential disaster in the front 7 this year. For spring, Casey Rogers is out w/ a knee injury.
Other than Ty Robinson, only 44 game snaps have been played by the rest of the DL room available for spring and 26 of those are Nash Hutmacher.
That group is in rough shape right now. This is not what you want heading into a critical, coach-for-your-life year.
Combine this with OL/TE problems:
Corcoran, Prochazka, Vokolek, maybe Brewington missing spring, while trying to replace a center (who you may want to be Corcoran), all with a new coach to boot, and there are problems in the trenches.
It’s great to give younger, inexperienced guys reps, but with both OL and DL in shambles, how good of a look are they giving each other?
Iron sharpens iron, but if you lack iron on both sides?
How will this prepare them for facing the ‘elite’ lines the B1G is known for?
Seriously? Sorry, but that seems a little ridiculous to jump in, out, back in,Peldarius has re-entered the portal, so there likely will be an intake on the DL.

I don’t disagree, it’s only making note that we’re not in an ideal position. The trenches are usually positions that require time to develop. So what should they do? Cancel Spring Ball? Even IF they didn’t have injuries to deal with, they would need to give reps to everyone. Any reps with the new coach will be beneficial. Sitting through the meetings discussing technique & studying the playbook will still be beneficial. They’ve been looking for portal difference makers. It’s not like they haven’t been trying. Reps for the young, unproven guys now will still help push the older, experienced guys in the fall.
