I was surprised by the news and can't help but wonder if he's walking away for a while or has another job already lined up? If I'm Dallas I'm already on the phone....

Jerry should offer partial ownership rights to the cowboys if that’s what it takes to land Payton.

He is under contract with the Saints for another few years - through the 2024 season. He’ll have to coach them if he wants to come back, sit out the rest of his contract, or there will have to be compensation package for the Saints.

I think he sits out at least 2022. Maybe more. If I’m the Saints I want a very nice deal to let him out of the contract should he want back in someplace else.

I believe his contract with the Saints will be a non-issue, they will work that out.

I also think he sits out one year and ends up with the Cowboys. Which, will be a terrible move for him. I can’t see Payton liking Jerry in his ear all the time and even worse, dealing with Daddy’s little Steven as the GM. There’s a reason the Cowboys don’t win.

I could see Dallas sending picks to New Orleans to get him. Seems like a natural fit imo.

Agreed. That's what Jerruh would do. Not sure Sean wants to work for him, though. Enough $$$ would change his mind.

TV maybe but most of the time will be spent golfing in Florida and lounging on a beach in the Turks and Caicos. What did he make per year for the past 8 years? 10 million?

He saw the writing on the walls... The saints are dealing with one hell of a cap dilemma and won't even out for a couple years at least

Guessing he replaces someone on the Fox pre-game show for a year or two then heads back to Dallas. If it ends up being closer to 3 years of TV work, Chicago after they inevitably mess up the head coaching hire this cycle and overpay to try to rectify another poor hire.

Chicago is the best guess. Grew up in Naperville, still has family and friends in Naperville, probably a good place to end his career.

He's to smart to hitch his wagon to Fields.
ha! it's not Fields, it's the franchise.

everyone would be smart to avoid the Bears (coming from a Bears fan).

cannot believe the Jim Caldwell rumors, and cannot believe they went back to the KC well for their GM.

just brutal.
