That one likely is due to his connection with Whipple. We have a decent pool of QB's for the Spring. Now to see which ones rise to the top and stick for the Fall and which ones transfer out after the pecking order becomes clear.
I know many feel LS will be the one to transfer, but he and Purdy may not be that different in terms of QB skills. In fact, with him being in the program for two years he may beat out Purdy for number 2 on the depth chart ( at least for the beginning of the 2022 season).

I don’t think there is much risk of that in the short term. Smothers on the other hand, I could see leaving if he doesn’t win the starting job.
I think HH has the biggest upside of the now 5 scholarship QBs. He'll have another year to refine his skills and learn the system. He can make his move for the starting QB job in 2023, and if his potential becomes reality, he might win it.

This could easily Whipple's last stop, seeing how he is Social Security age. I doubt he wants to go out a failure.
A lot of coaches go way past SS age (e.g. Solich, Saban). I never understood it, but I guess I should envy people who enjoy their jobs so much they never want to retire. Let's hope if Whipple is awesome he wants to work until he's 75.

Pretty amazing that Nebraska has pulled off this transfer portal haul. No, everything's not perfect but I'm impressed. Is it possible they do something with it? Not gonna hold my breath but just maybe...
Especially when you consider the struggles of basically every coach since Osborne to land QB prospects. Don't know how this will work out but at least it provides some hope for future seasons.

Except, it is likely they will both be learning a completely new system.

Right now I'm ONLY worried about 2022. One year at a time. If Frost has another bad year it just won't make any difference because it will be starting all over from scratch again in 2023.

Are you going to be okay if/when Haarberg leaves in a year or two?

You think we can't get a better QB in the portal if he leaves? He played C-1 high school ball and only had a couple of Power 5 offers. He's a major project, not like he's a 5-star talent.

That means someone is kicking ***.

I'll take it.

I remember when people were worried after AM's freshman year that he was NFL bound soon. Would have been awesome if that happened, as he would have been lighting it up in order for that to occur.

I think Pitt had at least 5 scholarship QBs, and Whipple joked how none of those guys would leave.. It is going to be nice to have that kind of depth if the same thing happens here at Nebraska. I don't think we've ever really had good depth at that position.

I think you hit the nail on the head....squarely!!! I just hope we do it according to the rules.
I wouldn't be too worried about following the NIL rules right now. If A&M doesn't warrant an investigation after this year's recruiting class, nothing will.

I'm not sure another bad season will cause termination.

It seems the rules/traditions of college football may change, much like the transfer portal gaining ground on traditional recruiting.

With all the revolving doors at major schools like Texas/FSU/Miami etc, it may be more advantageous to have the structure stay while rearranging the deck chairs. A lot of money being wasted rebooting every couple of years.

I can't say I disagree but I'm sure our feelings would be different if we went and ripped off another 3 win season next fall..

How does Casey Thompson feel about this?
Why would he care and why should we care how he "feels about this"? He's enrolled. He has used his one time transfer freebie. He's more than likely a one and done regardless of having 2 years that he could play. He is the clear favorite to be the starter next fall and he knows that or he wouldn't have come to NU.

Spring Practice ought to be fun, except for the fact they probably wont run a single play that they will this fall. Nobody knows what kind of offense we will be running. To be honest I don't care. I only care about winning. .

Congrats to these coaches, I never thought they would be able to get this many 4 star recruits to come. Good job

I'm sure they'll run some generic zone read stuff and I'll be surprised if we don't see some basic WCO routes. That's fine. What WILL be fun is watching the QBs perform. I really don't think Haarberg or Torres are any kind of flight risk and I also think Smothers will probably stick around too.

Hopefully the news sent him to the weight room fired up and ready to compete. Great programs always have multiple studs come in and out. Hopefully we run into that same ‘problem’ going forward.
