Hard hitting game last night

I was very impressed with the speed and power of the game last night. There weren't many arm tackles, it was fierce head to head and over powering football with guys running hard to the ball and driving through ball carriers. I am not sure I have seen this much intensity and hard hitting in a game for a long long time. The pure athleticism was tremendous.

It appeared that in the 4th quarter, the Georgia O line was wearing down Bama as they shoved the ball right down the throat of Bama essentially taking the speed rush game out of play. There was one play in the fourth quarter that to me, told the story. Georgia was running right at Bama and the LB's and DB's came up to support in the run but a DB for Bama, I think maybe #2 but not certain, seemingly wanted no part of it and turn sideways to avoid taking the play on.

That physical play was the hallmark of the great Husker teams, it would be nice to get it back someday, on both sides of the ball.

Last nights game just showed how much separation there is in the top 3-5 programs in college football right now. NCAA violations was probably the only thing that could have broke it up and paying players is legal now.

Saw the last third of that game and came away thinking we only needed two playoff spots this year. So I guess it's a good thang up to 16 teams are being discussed....HAHAHAHA

Different level of athletes for sure. They let them play a bit more physical in the SEC.
They get away with a lot more too. There were a lot of pick plays that the laundry would be out before it ever happened against NU, but both Bama and Georgia got away with TE's mauling defenders to get them open.

I guess. The sheer physicality of those teams allows for a bit more mauling. If you finesse around all game, holding and personal fouls look hella more egregious. Kinda like trying to call a game with prime Shaq in the paint. He is going to run you over and you are gonna have a bit more leeway to guard aggressively. That game last night was the most fun I’ve had watching college football all year. Fast, violent and every snap had the intensity of a game 7 World Series pitch.

It was the formula Nebraska used during it's championship years, keep plugging away and wear them down.

No question they’re stacked with a completely different tier of athlete than we’re used to seeing. It’s cool to see, but also sad we can’t even compete with that.
But beyond the skill and athleticism, I was also impressed with how smart they seemed to play.
That’s the part we can control much easier.

Watching the skycam view showed the physicality even more, in my opinion.

I actually enjoyed that view better. Seems like you could a better feel for the level of speed, athleticism and strength by watching it that way. It least it did to me.

With the exception of about 3, maybe 4 teams tops, every fan of every CFB teams feels like the gap is as wide as the Grand Canyon. We've got a lot of company when it comes to feeling like we're a ways off yet.

Certainly. Shoot, the talk on here is winning 6 games and getting to a bowl. Expanding the playoffs which I was just reading is in stalemate again, accomplishes nothing. People can complain all they want and expect their conference, no matter the level of their play, to automatically be entered into the sweepstakes. Seems like the committees have got this right every year.

The game last night was played how FB was meant to be played. There was hand fighting between Wrs and DBs, so what. You expect great athletes to overcome and participate in all of that at the same time. You aren't going to put 22 men bent on destroying the guy across.from them, on the field and not have pick plays, holding and all that goes with real FB games.

Really happy Georgia won but it does show just how far off we are. As others stated the SEC just has a different level of athletes.

The gap is enormous.

K-State beat a ragtag LSU bunch in the Texas Bowl. Yet, three of their five linemen listed as starters were 4/5 star recruits. Seven of the defensive starters were former 4/5 star recruits.

There were more 4/5 star recruits in the LSU 40 than K-State sees in decades.

The talent level makes the CFP championship unattainable for all but a few. Watching Michigan get leveled was further proof.

Alabama lost to UGA because both of Bama's NFL-level receivers were out.
