Might be seeing more 4 man fronts this season.

I agree that he would be a better fit in the 4-3. But his discipline and patience was night and day different between 2019/20 and 2021.
He had multiple costly personal fouls this last season, and he flirted with a couple taunting calls on the few plays he made. He talked **** to an opposing coach, he also shoulder bumped an Illinois assistant coach. Not sure the discipline has improved. 15 solo tackles in year 4. I think discipline is the problem. He is athletic, took him a few years to get into shape, but he is garbage at pass rush, and repeats mistakes over and over, including committing personal fouls. I guess I expect more out of a Nebraska LB in year 4.

Old Jar is going to lose his ****ing mind and let us all know how bad Tannor is.
You're damn right. 5 years now of a supposed pass rushing specialist who can't pass rush. He won't have Daniels covering his *** on every run play anymore either.

Didn't look to me.like we played a true 3-4 all year. 4 man fronts with Nelson on the right side. He is a LB, at 245, not DE. Where are the four LB's if it is a true 3-4? 2 safeties, 2 corners, 2 Ilb's, one OlB on the line and a hybrid in Jo Jo.

I saw a player who got a whole lot better this year and played with enthusiasm. He the play he got hurt on was a great hustle play and he was right back in next game as I recall.

Hopefully he becomes a senior leader now.

Tannor did the dumbest thing I think I have ever seen a Husker player do (even if it was just the dumbest thing during the Frost era that would have said a lot) last season when he swatted a ref's hand away from him. He actually put hands on the ref during the game. RollingLaugh

He did have some big plays that were taken away from him by the corrupt B1G officials, so maybe that was gnawing at him all year. If he keeps improving his technique and explosiveness he could have a nice senior season bookending Nelson.

Shocked that the kid who had a signing day ceremony where he pretended to put on 4 different hats before pulling out the Nebraska one still has maturity issues.

4 man front. Reimer at Will, Tanner at Sam, and Nelson at MLB
That would be a trainwreck.

Nelson needs to be on the line.

We would get ate up on shallow crossing routes.

Everyone runs that against us with great success

I would think Tannor will be at OLB and Nelson will be a guy who lines up in a four man front when it is called. Buddha Wright and Gifford will be nickel backers. Nelson better get ready to play run D. Might turn out to be a good thing that Dawson is coaching the D line, as he has also coached the LBs for a couple of years.

WHAT? Nelson would be the perfect MLB with his size and decent mobility. Reimer would be a great WILL with his speed and Tanner would fit perfectly at SAM.

Ate up on shallow crossing routes? What? We get beat on shallow crossing routes now. It would be harder to run against a MLB who is as big and physical as Nelson. He is completely out of place as a OLB and pass rusher as he's not big enough.

Our 4-3 DEs need to be like Robinson, big and tall.

I'm sorry, normally these is room for friendly disagreement, but saying that this would be bad is frankly crazy.

The 4-3 DEs on the 2009 depth chart were 6-3 and 6-5/265 lbs. Nelson is listed at 6-3/245. Ty is 6-6/305. Rogers is 6-5/295. I think a 4 man front of Nelson, Ty, Hutmacher, and Rogers could work.

If only we had a 6’4” 300lb all American in the middle of the DLine to make Turner and Allen look good.

Perhaps Nebraska would have a spot on its roster available if the staff had a resemblance of having any balls and tell Tate Wildeman to go pound sand. He's been at Nebraska since the turn of the century and hasn't done dick. It's a joke that he's still listed on the roster with a scholarship.
Yep, that's the only issue with the defense, 1 guy of 85. There has been 5 recruiting classes and there still isn't a guy of Crick or Suh's ability on this squad, yep all we need is for Wildeman to leave, then the whole thing turns around. ha ha ha

Things have changed since 2009. We had some other player that year that made the DEs look really good.

One of our problems is that we need a BIG MLB! Nelson has the size, the mobility, and the nasty to be a really good one. He should me making tackles and plugging up holes, not dancing with a 6-7 330 lb OT on every play.

My 4/3 for next year

DE - Robinson, Buckley
DE - Payne, Gunnerson (Bulked up)
DT - Nash, Black
DT - Rodgers, Weaver
SLB - Tannor, Kolarevic
WLB - Reimer, Henrich
MLB - Nelson, Snodgrass

We clearly need at least one more interior DL from the Portal, maybe 2 as it's unclear whether Black and Weaver will be ready.

how does the convo go when Frost sits down with players and tells them that we simply can’t have people who have grossly underperformed for 4 years remain with the program?

Slowest defense in the B1G under this alignment

We'd get scorched.

Point taken, but then again, Suh wasn't all world his third year at NU. 34 tackles and 6 TFLs. Last year was Robinson's third year. 27 tackles and 4 TFLs. Robinson will not be Suh (there have been very few on the NU roster with Suh's ability), but he will better next year than last year.
I assume there is an attrition list and that Wildeman is on it. But there are players ahead of him on the list.

OK, Give me your "fast" defense because all of the guys mentioned above is "who we got".

Aren't you just a little tired of having small guys at DE getting no pass rush and small guys at MLB getting run over?

We tried the small and fast thing on the DL in 1990 and it was a disaster. It also didn't work too well in 2012 when we had 245 lb Cam Meredith playing DT and 230 lb Jason Ankrah playing DE.

Nelson wouldn't be playing linebacker

And Robinson wouldn't be playing DE

Our front 7 isn't fast regardless.

But you to have a pass rusher on the line and Nelson per stats is our best one. A position he played in high school.
